I think the local multiplayer was 100% the key issue tbh. Cos even just playing casually in your house with friends was a cumbersome experience. Especially with the Switch versions tiny screens compromise for split screen, many fighting game players start out just mashing buttons in their house with friends over but Pokken makes even that a awkward compromise. Also lack of balance updates, dev communication and just one and doneing the game after the DLC was rough also. I do think the Switch version released at a good time because the only alternative to a Switch fighter was ARMS while we were waiting for Smash Bros but would love to see Pokken embrace more platforms. I agree with that price being brought up also. The Nintendo tax is real and even when it comes to base game content it's hard to make it sound tempting for full price. Especially with the story mode being really short and the online system being pretty limited. Overall great video!
What killed it for me was the Zoning was way too centralizing and there were too many mons that supported that play style(Blastoise included) Gardevoir Darkrai Decidueye and Braixen especially. It bothers me so bad when I have spend a match trying to go through hoops and hurdles just trying to Get too my opponent. And then next match after when I meet another player that doesnt spam I have to quickly readjust
It's sad to see, the game is very fun and underrated. I guess it's up to Nintendo to decide to make it sequal or not. To be honest, I doubt it unless they reboot it since hardly the masses even knows of Pokken's existence.
It's kind of impressive that Pokken Tournament DX was supported all the way up to Worlds 2022. It lasted longer than Arms which sold a bit more. Considering Namco was behind this and New Snap I hope they continue to do Spin-off games in the future. Maybe they even have one cooking for the Switch Successor.
I think the casual content was a big problem. The game got basically zero advertisement past launch and the official tournaments at worlds once a year. Not a single content creator who covered Pokemon in general, played pokken past the story mode. And its easy to see why. Its a competitive game made for a casual fan base that plays smash with items and 4 player free for all. (Before anyone misunderstands, I'm not saying there is no competitive scene in smash/Pokemon, its just that casuals make the bulk of any scene of any game and are the fundamental for the growth and maintain of a community)
the game was successful sales wise for fighting game standards, despite its unlucky launch situation and exclusivity to Nintendo/arcades. Just because they stopped supporting it after 5 years (the standard amount of time devs support a fighting game) doesn't mean it flopped. We need a sequel, but it's very strange to me how the discussion around this game has become how it was a failure, when it very clearly was not.
@@Kraimox The only consoles this game was on was the Wii U, Switch, along with having an arcade cabinet in japan. The reason it was exclusive wasn't sales based, it was simply because Nintendo has console exclusivity rights to pokemon. I honestly have no idea where you got your info from

On top of this, the PS4 came out in 2013 and Pokken Tournament in 2015, so if it was released on a sony console why would it not release on the more modern and easier to develop for one? pokken tournament was on xbox and playstation too. pokken had like 1 commercial in america that didnt even go on TV, they had like 0 marketing and the name of the game would throw people off too, ik threw me off when i was 11. i forgot the name a bunch

Shame honestly, it's easily my 2nd favourite fighting game.. But here, take a comment for the algorithm.
Pokken was actually made by the Tekken team at Bandai which is why there are so many borrowed animations
