Thanks for what you do H-Fri! Lifting the lid on the IEM market one unit at a time!
40:30 Version 2 looks like it has a few more wraps of copper.
@ 6:00 yes that is a rooster, yes that rooster lives in the room behind me.
Love my supermix 4! Xx
For sure! Supermix 4 is goat for the price.
I agree with you on the Wyvern Qing - I have the original (white) Wyvern (same drivers) and after a light retuning it's an unexpectedly great IEM (plus the great fit and build).
Btw. do you know what are the drivers in Gimlet and Wyvern? They are both LCP and have almost the same specs....
Nice. Yeah i can actually show you in a future video. They're pretty different designs and i think even different manufacturers. The LCP in the gimlet is more similar to the LCP drivers found in tin-hifi's C2 and C3 as it does not have a center hole, it is also completely different construction than any other LCP ive seen so far and the LCP material is a slightly different shade compared to others. If i remember correctly it was more of an egg cream color and not as yellow as other LCP drivers. Its a possibility that the LCP in the wyvern Qing could be the same cheaper driver they sent me in the first iteration of the Gimlet, not sure on that though, just a probability.
Hey, Hi-Fri! Are you familiar with KZ Castor series? I got both harman and bass versions and I think they disabled one driver in harman (silver color) version, potentially with glue (in typical KZ fashion). I was wondering if you will be interested in investigating the matter? They also have quite interesting unusual construction which might make good teardown video.
Interesting. Yeah, it will probably be a while but eventually i would like to get through all of the KZ DD iems. I forgot they released two versions of that iem. Lol. So strange.
@hi-friaudioman Now they released a Pro version of that too, also in that two variations. I wonder if silver version got the same treatment.
You do know that, if it's the case, it's a QC issue, and not deliberate? All sorts of insane theories online, that they spend the money on the drivers, spend the money on installing them, then deliberately disable them. No. This makes less then zero sense, no one does that.
@wahid-lg1kk QC issue is when small portion is affected but if all are affected it's already a design. And it does make sense because drivers are cheap and it's the tuning that you are paying for. In case of KZ it's their marketing: they put in a lot of drivers, so people see that, see the price and buy blindly online, nonethewiser that only one driver makes the sound and the rest are just for quantity. They saved money on design and development.
And it's a very Chinese thing to do, all these 999in1, 2mp phone camera but it has 4 of them and so on. Quantity over quality.
@unruler there was one model affected it was due to the glue not being suitable. It wasn't all of them. Drivers are not cheap when you are making tens of thousands. There are much better marketing strategies then putting deliberately non operating drivers in. The drivers were there. They were installed. They were real drivers. They were hooked up. They were impacted by glue. Go buy one now. Other people have huge qc issues, like moondrop, and nobody suggests this nonsense. It's the Western penchant for choosing someone to crap on, and everyone getting in line to do it. You are trained to it from school days. Continually bringing this up years later is insane.
Low end sounds decent on pandamon 2. I like mine. Don't use them a lot, but when I do I enjoy them. They sound very nice. Bouncy and engaging. Maybe you got a bad set? I don't know, mine is fine, and I have good ears. I hate the cable tho..mine is not the same as the one you did a closeup on, it's kind of stiff and thin, not the same braid at all, or it looks weird in the camera. They sound like halfway between a dd and a planar, but as you said, a bit slow, but mine have good enough high end? Sound like massive variance on these things.
I agree with everything you said, but vs other iems/drivers the SPD is just a little sluggish. Bass is good but a little on the loose side and mid-bass is just a touch boomy but it is a good iem, just not a high definition driver. They're really squeezing it for all it's got.
@hi-friaudioman Ya I totally agree that it's slow, and lacks definition. It's why I don't listen to it more. I don't see why they bother making them this way, but I must have examples of every driver type.. It's a bouncy set, it has its uses. I like it. But why bother making it?
Hey Hifri are you familiar with the LSR Magnesium-Aluminium drivers Elysian has been using on their recent offerings such as the Pilgrim and Apostle? I think they're the same ones used on the Saga and ZSN Pro 2, they look really similar at a glance however I have no way of confirming this for sure
What? kz drivers on pilgrim that would be really interesting if it is real. I think kz saga and EDC pro drivers are different. You can see in their advertisement exploded diagram.
@@NKFreak1C My bad I meant to say ZSN Pro 2. KZ Markets these drivers as the Super Linear dynamic driver. Apparently its a close relative to the Letshuoer Galileo DD so its not entirely impossible for Elysian to also use the driver. From what I can tell not only does the saga, zsn pro 2 and pilgrim have drivers that look nearly identical but they also have similar driver materials (LSR + AL-MG)
Sorry I am not familiar with those drivers. I very highly doubt they are using KZ drivers. The only metalized driver ive seen from KZ appeared to be some kind of Ti coating but it could've been Mg-Al.
I know there are a ton of Mg-Al variants out there and Moondrop has been using them in a few of their iems, if anything the elysian iems are probably closer to those.

Hi Hi-Fri, I am planning on buying Tinhifi DUDU or CCA Rhapsody at a very discounted price. DUDU is not the best tuned planar but how can i fix the treble part of that IEM. You can refer to the graph in treblewellextended squig link. Or go with CCA Rhapsody for the same price.
Hi, I own both THE DUDU and Rhapsody. Honestly, rather than these 2 sets, I'd suggest you just get the ZS12 Pro X.
@@KURRYOUS thes 2 sets are available for 20$ each that's why I'm asking. Buy one of them and use EQ or modify myself(dudu).
@@NKFreak1C Can you send me a link to the DUDU? AFAIK It retails for more than that. Personally I bought mines for around $50
Hey, so it depends on what you're trying to fix with the treble. I looked at some graphs and can see it is a little uneven with a relatively large dip in the lower treble. Unfortunately it appears to be an issue with the shape/depth of the shell and cavity. You could try to add a piece of small round foam in the nozzle or a higher value dampener which will dampen higher frequencies, you will lose some air and sparkle but it will cut down on the effect of the dip, otherwise without changing shells I'm not sure there is much you can do. If you were to change the dampener on the rear it would change the pinna vs bass response and possibly mess everything up. Personally i would just use DSP/EQ to correct the response.
The CCA rhapsody I'm not sure about, you'd probably get more enjoyment from the planar but that also depends on how well its tuned.
@@hi-friaudioman thankyou, I'm also leaning towards planar driver.
The 2.0 appears to have more turns on the coil. What is the dcr of each? Xx
That's a good question. I'll measure both and post the results in the next video.
Drivers from the stoneage, it's a joke ... very poor construction compared to regular dynamic drivers.
Even the better planar drivers, tempting in lower and mid frequencies, has too many downsides (distorting sibilants / hights).
