How to Build a Dry Well for Downspout Gutter Drains

We're going to show you everything you need to know to build a dry well for downspout gutter drains. We're routing this roof run off system to 2 dry wells that are 48 inches deep - below frost level. When you're building a dry well like this you want to make sure you're in permeable soil and you don't want to build your system like this in clay.
Also, you have to filter all the debris with a leaf filter and inline catch basin. You can't let your dry well fill up with sediment or it will clog and fail in no time. The key is to build the system correctly.

Not too many craftsman out there that have a true passion and take pride in their work.....and actually know what they are doing. I've learned so much from these videos. I live in the south so the ground is what we call "gumbo" so it doesn't soak up water very well. How can i tell if my soil percs enough for a dry well to work?

Dig a hole big enough to hold a 5 gallon pale of water then filled with water. If by the next day it's still holding water you do not perk. If it's dry the next day you are on of the luck ones.

Good luck with that. Once the dry well is full your done. Rainy seasons don't let up. It's just like a bath tub. Dig a 5 gallon hole in your clay and fill it up with water. Let me know how many days it take before the hole is dry.
