At 6:20 you’re describing the crabs in a bucket phenomena. If you’re in the bucket by yourself there are no other crabs to hold you back from escaping but once the bucket is full of crabs all the other crabs will try to stop any crab from escaping.

Thank you Poppy, I feel for sure this way sometimes. I am 30 years old and I moved to another country this year and starting ACCA now. All of my colleagues at my same level are younger than me and I actually have a Master’s degree, that doesn’t seem that useful at the moment. I try not to compare myself with others, but sometimes is tough. Hearing your story makes me feel hopeful for myself too. Thank you!!!

What you say Poppy is absolutely correct. Of course it does not stop us wanting to give our children the advantages that we did not have. What you don't realise until afterwards is that you can do a lot of things just by taking a bit of initiative when you are young but you often lacked the confidence to do it. My advice to my younger self would be - just go for it!

Hi Poppy, this video was very honest and potent, I was happy and inspired you took the chance to study in the States and better yourself and what you say about people's life is so true, some of us are fortunate , some are not so, but the key is to do something with our lives to better and fulfill ourselves, at times we may fail, and from those failure, we should learn from it and avoid happening again. I don’t see you as a failure, even at times you may see or feel that way, you are an inspiration to many, please take comfort and pride in that.

Big respect and happy smile from me to you Poppy , I also moved to UK years ago and start my life here from zero and like most of us I am also failing into that trap of comparing myself with others to the degree that can be depressive. I just want to tell you that for me it's always great to learn and hear about Thai life in Thailand too as I love your country and maybe one day I can move there for good :)

Hi Poppy Wished i was there (hopefully finally getting back next year) My view is slightly different, why insist on comparing yourself to other people? Focus on yourself and the positivities you have, health, family, community and happiness etc I do accept the point on travel, just by chance of birth, but focus and make your own path in life and then follow it Enjoy your time in Thailand

You are a very interesting Vlogger.
I have have sort of done the opposite to you in building a property portfolio in Thailand. My wife is Thai. Married for 25 years. I am retiring next year with two good pensions BUT have bought Your Money or Your Life and The psychology of Money and plan to develop a plan of action for the Freedom Years. Strangely enough the only dog I would consider acquiring would be an English Bull Terrier, and was considering breeding them decades back… Too many subjects you raise are worth discussing here (and boring your fan-club to death!)
I have always had to sidestep the ‘yellow fever’ mindset people have in the west about oriental girls. I have dozens of Thai women friend and we have really deep friendships. In fact Yuki looks a dead ringer for you and would be earning the same as you. Our UK life is pretty much Thai. Thats why your Thai UK fusion offsets ours.

The first time I laid my eyes on an English Bull Terrier I fell in love. They're not the easiest dog but they do make me laugh so much. Let me know what you think of Your Money or Your Life & Psychology of Money, they're both really good read.

@@PoppyDontree I am halfway through YMOYL. So far it seems to outline my philosophy most of my adult life.
Page 11 Life Rating Scale- All of column 4, 60% of column 5. Page 127-Purpose in Life Test result 106 points.
I had a golden future in advertising but ethically I just didn’t want to give my Life Energy to the profession- So worked in Logistics instead.
Much of what the book expresses and what you say are old style auditing. I have pads constantly tracking finances and forecasting/analysing future plans of expenditure.
*I have yet to encounter how you budget for children, as they become adults?
Everything I do and spend is invested in our UK -Thai family… Presently paying off a £15,000 debt after we ‘bought’ a crew cab pick up for the brother in law, for his building business. Only to find out later he never paid more than two payments and sold it onto the black market!
Its all being coped with but money down the (Thai) drain.
I am retiring in around 18 months time. No mortgages. One house here and three in Thailand, all full chanote. Big one near Khao Yai and two by the beach at Khao Kalok, near Pranburi.
Have two plots of land in the impressive hills over Krabi. Selling one of the Pranburi houses to finance building the new, large house, with its backdrop of ‘Avatar’ hills. This will have a good potential for renting out to the holiday market.
I have always worked in design and tend to design much everything in my life, to some extent.
In fact I have designed every aspect of my family life over the past 25 years. As with all good design- you let the best principles guide you. So it ALL considers ALL the variables.
We are fish in the streams and oceans of life. Nothing really stands still and you are perpetually moving through currents that carry opportunities.
It all a bit abstract to define everything in the mix BUT a fusion between a UK life and future Thai life has its unique aspects to consider.
The book may have some pointers regarding renting and costing the forthcoming property.
In relation to the description in the book I guess I am one of the DIY FI ers. Loads of projects in the mix. Not much tied up neatly in a bow!
Children have their Thai ID cards, so can exploit any life potential here or there. I have always been an artist and less for cataloguing elements financially. When I die it ALL gets left- Hopefully with its own momentum. Now the children are now adults and free from educational timetables we have FOUR lives to take forward…
