I've been using one on my fishing kayak for a couple of years now. Very happy with it but I've noticed that the blade is prone to developing rust spots if it's put away wet, so be sure to rinse and dry it after salt water exposure.
I think your right on with this being popular with some ultralight or even regular backpackers that would like to carry a proper knife but there just not being much out there light enough and affordable. Oh and thanks for bringing us another Great product review!
I am looking for an ultralight knife.... Just about hte only cheaper thing I have found. I ordered it, but it does look like it's going to be maybe too flimsy. We'll see.
Very cool review. You showed the knife well. I love that the handle is bigger because I max out on the 511’s too. I’m not sure how the cork would go but I drilled a hole in my Companion for a lanyard. I think a small drill hole in the cork would work. The hi viz is a bonus, it’ll match my work gear.😉 I just ordered mine today.
Great knife for boating and around water. I use a light my fire model one for camping and one for my yacht. On thé yacht I’ve tied a para cord lanyard on the knife and the sheath. So I won’t lose either while working in the water. And it’s a lot lighter than my dive knife. Like you show the blade is almost if not twice as thick. Big downer is no lanyard. Good vid.

It's pretty simple to drill a lanyard hole in the Companion. I would guess that the floating knife is the same. Also pretty simple to square the spine with a file or grinder for striking a fero rod.
For the price of one of these you could get 3 basic ones. So why not just get the basic and if you lose it you just get another. Probably won't drop it more than 2 times

Are the yellow end of the handle luminescent? If not, that would be a great idea.

The thinner blade might work better for food prep over the thicker mora models.

Cork handle would have a great feel. Delicate construction though; handle wiggles like a pool noodle.
Wish it had companion handle shape.
