Hi. You mentioned at 5:11 possible interference between the two 5Ghz bands if there are overlapping channels. I’m getting my new XT9 tomorrow and will be trying to set up wireless backhaul for first time. How do I set it up to avoid the overlapping channels (UNII4?). Or does it already prevent it automatically?

Pretty good initial take on the XT9, but I was hoping that someone would expand on 1) how to connect various ethernet connected devices (printers and NAS drives as well as smart TVs), and 2) just how many devices this mesh system can handle (I have about 60-70 items on my AX-RT88U and RP-1900x system right now). Most of those devices are smart plugs, Simplisafe alarm devices, and Govee temperature modules. My security camera system also takes a bunch of bandwidth, but it is a wired system to a DVR. My internet currently is 500/500 FIOS (would also be nice to find something that could tally up exactly what speed the mesh system needs to be for a typical network).
Also...I'm a bit sour on Asus right now for the horrible problems they have with overvoltage issues on the new gen motherboards, and their complete lack of caring for the users for their warranties, as well as some quality issues they've had the last couple of years. Can you speak to any of this as well?! Thanks!

@behfor once again great review I purchased the ax86u because of you and now my situation has changed. I’m on the fence with the xt9 and the gt6 for my 1750 square foot new purchased home. Primary node in the basement and the ai node upstairs to cover my entire home (the ASUS ax86u will not cover my home for some reason) what mesh system would you go with please advise me :). Cheers.

XT8 here wired backhaul about 30 feet apart. Only one Windows laptop has trouble staying connected. I suspect it is connecting 2.5 with the longer range and might benefit from the lower power config, but I don’t want to loose range outside.

    • @Behfor

If you mean "exceeded the maximum capacity" of your wifi, then you need to increase the number of nodes in order to increase the capacity. You might wanna watch this video: th-cam.com/video/GHkXnRrBFnE/w-d-xo.html

    • @Behfor

AiMesh is the mesh system for the Asus devices. In other words AiMesh is a type of mesh so you can't say AiMesh or mesh, it is as if you say corolla or Car ! Corolla is a type of car manufactured by Toyota. AiMesh is a type of mesh made by Asus. Something like that.

Basically my comment is...what you see is what you get...if you have the budget to buy (not referring that Behfor bought it) a flagship product. Actually the $$$ goes into the software development + TrendMicro feature service, like the Parent Control - Web & App Filters + AiProtection.
Asus router in general perform with flying colours against other competitors brands.
I am just curious, if say I have a 2 storey concrete house, main router is placed at the ground floor, and the mesh node router is placed at the 2nd floor, distance in between them are within 3 metres. How well would the backhaul connection perform? Stable?

Using 2 RT-AC66u B1 routers with Merlin Firmware in AiMesh with Wired backhaul only. They DO NOT work in AiMesh on wifi backhaul, but on wired backhaul they work extremely well with fibre 500mbps internet and about 25 client devices.

I have an XT8 and am dissapointed so far. My incoming fiber internet is 950MB. If I hard wire a laptop to the router it runs at 500MB. Wifi is worse. Is this typical signal loss for these? Also it doesn't like Apple devices. I have to reconnect my macbook every morning. I called their tech support and they suggested turning off QOS and Aiprotection which helped a little.

  • @andrewgr4572

Re XT8 - I bought it two days ago and had to return them back to shop, as started facing with the one of the most common issues on XT8, which can be googled as: "asus xt8 fast blue led blink". Basically the issue is that mesh node loses connection and cannot reconnect to the main router, thus blinks fast with blue led.
In my case it even could not connect at the distance of ~1m, only using wired backhaul I could make them work again. Thus just decided to return them and not to waste my time anymore (I already have Deco PX50 on the shelf which I didn't manage to return in time 😅). Surely it is really what I would not expect from asus.
Anyway, I saw your another video re XT9 - so maybe I will try them instead of XT8.

Big fan of your channel, however not a fan of that background music , maybe turn it way down.
I have 4 XT8 and had them all wired for backhaul. They are a buggy mess, constant drop outs and slow speeds. ASUS recommended I turn off QOS and helped a bit. Decided to disconnect the wires backhaul and now they work great ! Saw other reviewers says they also had lots of problems s with wired backhaul with these.
