Glad to know that towards the end of the video, its able to work well with all the 2.4ghz smart devices. Was hesitant to buy this but now i’m sure this is the mesh i’m looking for. Thanks for the review and A+ effort to end off the video properly haha.
Great video!! Question, if the cat7 cables didn’t work, am I able to use cat6 or 6A cables? Also is the default cables that asus gives is 5E? Thank you!
I’m curious how did u manage to place your main note in the living room, did you connect the modem to the switch which connects to the living room data point?
I am shopping around to upgrade my network this year end! Product review looks good and i like that it has 4 external ports. But personally, i will probably go with wifi 6e and skip 6 entirely
Hihi, I just purchased a brand new zenwifi xd6. I followed your exact steps to setup the router and node. But after using it for 2 days. My node started to have blue flashing light. Tried restarting everything but it doesn't work at all to solve the issue. Have you experienced this issue before?
Hi MADS! thanks for your detailed video! Can i ask which broadband plan did you sign up with for your Zenwifi AX (XT8) mesh? is 1gbps enough or 2gbps? it's been some time since the video is uploaded, just wish to know what you are using now! Will be useful for my decision making! thank U! x
very interesting as usual, I tested my ADSL very weakly, I will bring in the telecoms company to make it more powerful, thank you my friend for the explanations
Thanks for the interesting video. If my house is the same layout as yours but my modem is in the store room, how do I setup one unit at the living room and the other in the master bedroom? As I thought you mentioned that the main node must be connected to the modem. Thank you.
Enjoy your concise video as always! Noted that you said no issues with 2.4ghz, so can I safely say it's compatible with all your smart home devices (i.e. aqara hub etc.)? Thanks :)
Thanks for the video MADS! @7:03 I was thinking just that! Just to clarify, is it possible to connect my modem to a switch in the DB area, then route the connection to the main node in the living area for stronger signal? i.e. modem>switch>router vs modem>router>switch that you have demonstrated. Super cool outro :)
I think it is possible. if not u just get another router at the DB. modem > gigabit router then place 1 xt8 at living console and 1 xt8 in second bedroom.
Hi MADS, when you say to place the XT8 in the living room, how to do it ? Is it run a lan cable from modem to the XT8 router in living room and have another lan cable to run from the living room XT8 back to the DB box to a Ethernet switch to split the wired network to other rooms? On a side note the robot vacuum behind your studio room is it the Roborock S7 with auto clean function?🤔
I'm wondering how the roaming perform. Right now I'm using AC86U + AC68U setup with AiMesh. My devices never roam as expected. I tried to change the Roaming assistant to different values but not much help. Most of time my devices connects to a random node even the signal is really weak. My phone usually takes minutes to switch to a near by node. I've heard that ZenWIFI uses same software to achieve mesh system which is AiMesh. I really want to know if my issue is casued by my old routers or AiMesh. If ZenWIFI routers handle roaming action better, I may concider to get this XT8 to replace my old routers.
Wifi 6 is the new way to go(from back in 2019) but sadly some of our local ISP(even in 2021), are still giving out the AC routers with new or renewed contracts. One ISP for instance, charge monthly for a AC router(Aiyeo😅).The contract doesn't come with router as before. For AX routers, need to top up.

Hi, for a penthouse. Is it sufficient for me to have 1 hooked up to my living room via lan line and 1 using wireless in my master bedroom? I am worried of a break in between lvl 1 and lvl 2. Any advise pls?
Ive just encountered an issue with the LAN cables. Using flat type Cat6 and a regular round cat 6 also prompt by the app that the speed are 10mbps and 100mbps. So dunno why.
I dont know why but this is what i ddi and the same 2 cables gave me 1000mbps. What i did was took my laptop and plug in the LAN cable, then took the other end and plug into the xt8. immediately the app shows 1000mbps is detected. Did the same for the other cable and it showed the same results. Now I unplug all these cable and run them accordingly and all in giving me 1000mbps. No matter how i reset etc and using my desktop to do the same it wont give me anything more than 10 or 100....but after the above steps i get 1000mbps. Dunno what my laptop did but it works. So for anyone with the same issue while using CAT6 cables can do what i did.
HI so I need some help, I just got the ASUS xt8 and am trying to set it up, I got both blue lights to become solid but when I try to do the setup in the app it checks my internet and simply says the wan isn’t detected and I can’t proceed forward, I’ve switch cables restarted my modem and really am not sure what to do. I’ve also tested my modem with my old router and the internet works fine. What can I do?
My second xt8 doesnt pair with the primary xt8. When i wired it to ethernet, it finally connects and apears in asus app. However, it seems unstable. After awhile, it just went offline. :( Any advice?
I’m currently using a deco m5 but getting speed around 80~90 in the furthest room. (Singtel 1gbps) Would using a Wi-Fi 6 router help to increase it by 3-4x?
Check the Ethernet cables. Maybe got the same problem as I described in the video… Or maybe configuration issues? Hard to say If u wanna try this Asus also can. It does the configuration for you. Plug in only, connect to app. Make sure u use the lah cable given. And buy compatible Ethernet cables. If not compatible u will see it in the backend (shown in my video) Also it is not just because it is wifi 6 that is good. It is mesh, triband, Wi-Fi 6 and 160mhz. The coverage is really extensive and made to cover big houses too.
@@madsncakes Thanks for the reply! I'm trying to compare the different types of Wifi 6 routers. I would love to see if you could do a review on Deco X68.
The Shopee ethernet cable that you bought is fake Cat7 cable. The only reason it is running at 100Mbps is because it is actually a Cat5 cable. You need at least Cat5e and above to achieve 1Gbps ethernet connectivity.
The ASUS XT8's would be worth the money...if they worked. WARNING! Set up of an XT8 (as router) and two XT8 (as nodes) was easy and the system worked fairly well for about two weeks. The only network change was to prioritize ethernet backhaul and to update the firmware. Simple enough...and it worked...until it didn't. Suddenly, without any obvious reason, the two nodes stoped communicating with the router. I have watched every video tutorial on the Internet and have read everything I can find about this issue. I have now invested more than 6 hours trying to get them to "connect", with no success. Sadly, the only advice that tech support can offer is to "make sure your firmware is updated". After trying damn near everything, I decided to put them in recovery mode and place all new firmware on the nodes in case they were corrupted. As a Mac user...as far as I know, it's impossible. So, with my spare PC, I went through all the proper steps and, I got a message reading, "Unit is not in recovery mode". BS. Anyhow, I've got over 600 euros into these and they're basically doorstops...and not even good ones since they're pretty light. BTW...this is a known issue that typically goes unresolved. Lots of pissed off people out there on the innerwebs.
