It’s really bad that there are p-words and children shouldn’t be putting children online etc. but it’s through a screen (does not make it any less disgusting), people know where she lives, which rooms the kids are in, and their routine. What if someone takes this real life? 😢

My six year old asked me recently why she can’t make TH-cam videos or Tictok’s. I didn’t want to scare her TOO bad… but I did tell her not everyone out there is a good person, and we didn’t want a bad person “taking a liking to her” and tracking her down. I still hope that wasn’t too honest, but I didn’t want her sneaking and doing it when she got a little older and figured out how to post a video… she asked if maybe she could when she turns ten. I said I would prefer not, but we would revisit the conversation and consider it when the time comes. She likes to record herself pretending like she’s a TH-camr and it is quite cute, but I am WAY too paranoid to put any videos of her on here. Social media just freaks me out. One day I drove by to go visit my friend, and literally THE WHOLE FAMILY was in the front yard playing around. Fully, fully visible from the road. No fence, just a bar you can easily step over. I saw a reddit post recently from a teenager/young adult pov of these family vlogs, whose family was a vlog channel, and they talked about how now as an adult they still have paranoia about cameras being there watching them. They mentioned that at one point they'd have to change in a dark bathroom with the door locked because they were so afraid of having the parents walk in on them to film something. The parents only stopped filming/uploading completely when one of the siblings had a su!cide attempt from the stress/paranoia

Could not agree more! My son was in the Nicu even though he was 2 days away from being dangerously overdue. I still don't know if I had undiagnosed pre-eclampsia or gestational diabetes, I had those tested but these were 30 min to an hour tests so I don't feel it was thorough testing. While my son was crowning, my stomach got hard as a rock and I couldn't push. when I tried, the pain in the hard spot is all I could feel, baby's heart rate was going up or down I dont remember so I had emergency c section & woke up without my baby just screaming wheres my baby. I remember only hearing that he had acidosis, blood too acidic? They were going to transfer him to another hospital nicu, without me even seeing him 💔 my partner pushed and pushed for me to be able to see him only for like 5 seconds, I could only hold his hand and off he went. They wouldn't transfer me to his hospital, they told me I couldn't be released until my pain was controlled. But then they wouldn't give the meds that worked until the fourth day, I left the fifth day. They had to cool him & keep him asleep until his acidosis was resolved. About 8 days? To make sure and watch him for seizures etc. Nothing prepared me for needing to advocate so hard for myself, my baby, and the bonding that is so essential. My son is on the spectrum & has sensory processing disorder 😕 being a new mom is so stressful and just alot to deal with on its own. Having other moms experiences in videos online is an incredible resource. So many different aspects of becoming a mom or parent, you definitely don't learn in school. You have to proactively be searching for every bit of information you could need.
The one thing I couldn't believe that no doctor or others moms, any resource told me: was the intensity of the pain in your uterus, whether it was from umbilical cord placenta attachment ripping or bursting, or c section. I had no doctor or any moms let me know why the pain was so out of control (I have a high pain tolerance, I broke my collar bone off of my shoulder joint a few yrs before, it was poking out of my back & I remember the dr & tech in emergency room asking me if I was okay because I was just chill & silent, when they said they had seen big guys like football players sobbing and moaning in pain from this kind of injury)

Just because people think it only happens to celebrities that it’ll never happen to them. I recall an episode of catfish where a girl shared pictures of her and her daughter and the daughter was holding up a certificate from her elementary school and of course the mom mentioned her daughter’s name in the post so now if in the wrong hands someone could’ve used that information for bad intentions. Children should remain off the internet as long as possible in my opinion. Keep pictures of them to yourselves cause it’s easy to get carried away and over share things about them or if you do share your children take the necessary steps to protect them, blur information, don’t share locations etc. Their safety should always be first priority.

We don't expect emergency services to work out of the kindness of their heart. We don't throw in surgeon's faces that they are saving lives just for money. We don't get mad at lawyers who put predators or something along those lines in jail because they are getting paid. He is using his platform in a very outspoken way against this growing issue. I don't give a fuck if he gets paid if he continues (he has been consistent on this issue for a long time now) to speak out against the way family channels are exploiting their children for money. He isn't making money off showing their faces, he isn't making money off their most embarrassing moments such as their first period. I'd much rather someone get paid fighting on the side of the children than exploiting them. 🤷‍♀

As someone who watches all of your videos and all of Colleen’s, I will say that I would be interested to see that stats and screen time of how much her kids are in the blogs because they are not what I see as the center point of her content. Like the clip you showed a lot of it is just her in front of the camera doing things around the house, opening packages, and discussing her mental health journey. It does seem like the kids are used in thumb nails more than actual screen time and I would agree that she shares details about her kids lives on the internet which can be a bit unsafe but I would also note that she only ever shows certain rooms in her home, and has been careful to keep her children fully clothed on camera. I don’t know that that’s enough but I have never seen them as the center point of her content, she discusses her journey of motherhood and parenting but it’s not showcased by throwing a camera in the kids faces all the time, sometimes they just happen to be there while she goes through her day and that of course is a part of her day. I think she has tried to continue vloging because she enjoys it and doesn’t want to loose that connection just because she is a parent now

Yes, they can’t consent. That’s valid. I put my sons photos on my instagram so I can’t judge… I’m not famous though so I see it’s different. I think she’s just got a disconnect between wanting to do normal things and realizing you kinda can’t as a public persona. I think this is nuanced and your take is heavily influenced on your feelings about her. I also think you’re not a parent and don’t understand how much this person definitely works to be the best for her children. Idk this is just a meh take imo.

This video shocked me, yes she is a “mommy vlogger” but that’s not all she does, she’s never once showed her kids sick or if they didn’t want to be filmed she wouldn’t film them. And yes her being popular online could definitely cause many issues, even before that though she wanted to move FOR her children, she’s said that the new house is better for them and mainly did it for their safety and where that would grow up. She loves her kids so much. She has said in the past that when her kids can give consent and understand what she is doing that she will ask about filming, I don’t see the harm in recording a baby laughing. This is not a teenager getting filmed without consent. Colleen’s vlog community is so kind and understanding with everything they’ve gone through, nothing is staged like other vlog channels I’ve seen. It’s all real. One big issue is that kids can't really consent, they don't understand what it means to have their life be on the internet permanently. Their brains literally aren't developed enough to understand the scope of things, and when they get older odds are they'll feel incredibly violated, especially when they know that child predators watched videos of them as kids.
