Derek absolutely hit the nail on the head, a bike makes simple tasks like running errands and commuting a joy instead of a chore. And the interceptor is absolutely a great beginner bike, the weight makes all of its actions, from acceleration, braking, turning, a little more muted and smooth compared to something smaller and lighter.

You should probably check the US statistics on that and compare it to other countries. Just going by mortality rate in 2016 the US was 12.4 per 100k but Germany was only 3.7. The rate is insane.

    • @ramaj

And bikes are twice as hard as cars to get a license for in most cases. That said any dealer will sell you any car or bike without even having a license at all because you don't have to have a license to buy or own so if you drive it without a license, that's on you not them. But yeah you could theoretically go buy a turbo busa or a Bugatti Chiron as soon as you turn 18 or so and without any lessons or license hit the road, and then a tree shortly thereafter.

Learning to counter steer rather than "lean into a corner" was what saved me drifting towards a kerb on the outside of a corner in my first month's on the road ; thank god I had good instructors who made sure I had "felt" and really understood the concept of it.

A lot of people have said it but the same, I am loving to see the progression. Also it takes me back to my first days on a bike 33 years ago. The reason you dream of a higher powered bike is to recapture that feeling from that first year, not because you will ever use all of the power. Just knowing you are on something that you could let get deadly out of control is intoxicating, even if you never really get much over the speed limit.

Get the rebel 1100. Put it in rain mode the first few months and switch to standard mode once you feel comfortable. That’s exactly what I have done and I have loved it. I spent a good bit of time on a friends 500 before purchasing the 1100. To me the rain mode of the 1100 feels super similar to the 500. For me as a Dutch citizen it’s almost unbelievable to see that in the US it’s accepted to just jump on a motorcycle and join traffic, without almost endlessly learn with an instructor on a reserved parking lot for days in a row and then pass a test for that first.
In The Netherlands you have to pass 8 tests picked out randomnly out of 12 skills we learn:
    - fast slalom
    - slow slalom (3 mph)
    - quick evade
    - emergency stop
    - comfortable stop
    - quick stop
    - steering an ‘8’

    And so on
No wonder I felt comfortable starting out on a 600cc supersport!
Anyway: love to see how you guys roll in the US. Big fan of the channel

    • @babyfknblu

When I'm teaching a new rider, after the basics I always teach them counter steering, cause in my country none of the schools teach it. And I find it very important that a rider knows how it works. That is the reason why you'll see a beginner trying to do a turn and end up too wide, cause if it's a left turn they will try to turn the steering to the left and they will end up fighting with the bike, instead of turning the steering right in a left turn.
