This made me cry. Why are some renters so very toxic? I was raised to take better care of someone else's property than I do my own and my landlords have always appreciated me. You really worked magic on this property.
There's a faction of people who pillage + steal as a way of life.
Sometimes, besides stealing priceless artifacts, rugs, etc. from the WH, they steal national documents.
The executive is too embarrassed for America to release that particular info. I personally think it should come out in the trial for the felony violations he's admitted in public.
The pride of the establishment people in D.C. are afraid full knowledge of how bad he raped our country, would irreversibly damage our nation. It takes years to build an airtight case. ANY PERSON who violates the law, especially endangering our democracy, must be held to account.
Thieves are thinking to get money from taking something they don't own.
Personal aggrandizement is at the root of every theft.
It is horrible that the renters trashed the house. The transformation is amazing. Well done ladies.
First time viewer here. I've seen many home renovation shows and this just didn't wow me. I do appreciate that they kept the cabinets and used a lot of materials from his warehouse. That's always nice to see versus smashing everything to bits. However, there were about twice as many decor items than were necessary, which totally overwhelmed the place. I couldn't concentrate on the changes due to the number of pillows and typical chachkis. It's like they couldn't control themselves at Hobby Lobby or something. Lol

I’m known for a love of tchotchkes and decorations but this amount of stuff makes the beautiful home seem smaller than it is. Beautiful floor, wall, and deck treatments, just too much stuff.

@@christienelson1437 The cushions at the fireplace made no sense, ditto all the cushions in the master bedroom, they went halfway down the bed, way too many!!

I love they way they did this while using stuff from guys storeroom. I feel so sorry for people renting out their homes only to get them trashed. I rented out a flat years ago before I sold it. It didn't get trashed , it was just filthy. Good clean and was ready to sell.
I hope those cabinets were scrubbed REALLY good before they were painted!! I feel like the whole house was dirty and needed a good deep clean!
The house is beautiful now. The staging was a bit to much, but it did not detract focus from the house itself.

EXACTLY why I got out of rental homes. Every time a renter left, they trashed the house and I was left with renovating. Too expensive and tiring to do that. I totally lost faith in humanity by that point.
Wow, this is just amazing showing what one can do on a budget.
This proves that you can do a stylish makeover without throwing money at it. The kitchen cabinetry was perfectly serviceable and although I wouldn't have chosen that colour or the black hardware, keeping them saved a lot of money. Same with the ensuite to the main bedroom. Nicely done and without going over the top because the circumstances did not warrant it.
Okay here's a question why would you have to pay people to install the floors when the owner of the house is a contractor and could have installed it for free and put that money somewhere else that made zero sense to me

His young guy who managed the job bought the house.

These 2 do have a flair for it and it obviously works. I just wonder whether the staging is a bit over the top and really necessary. It’s just so busy

The window was so perfect!!!! There was no need to make it smaller. The sunlight and the view was so amazing before with all the greenery in their backyard.

33 days in my town is nothing, there have been properties sitting on the market for years either because no one can afford them or no one can afford to do the work to rehabilitate them. It's very sad. There are so many homes just rotting to the ground in my town.

Painting fireplaces (natural stone) the biggest no-no, all that can be done in the future is change the color. Painting natural wood doors and trim a big no-no, unless it's the last resort from failing shellac finish same with cabinets.

Looks great. Painting the fireplaces though... The red brick one would have been nice whitewashed and just leave the brown one. Gray is just no.
I like white-painted brick, too, but I liked the contrast with the slate color on the bricks and the lighter wall. That color fits in welll with the the hardwood floors and even the bathroom floor.

Huh? It looks like overage/change order items were saved, to use later.... not sold for his profit. Which could explain how they stay on budget and have things on hand, which also saves time. 🤷♀️
If you watch the show, you would know he wouldn't do that.

They should have left that big window in the kitchen and not cut it in half. A round table in front would have been beautiful.
Investors don’t normally like to buy houses flipped by someone else. They have their own crews and they lowball the price of these damaged homes. The decor is the reason it looks nice.

OK - a rental so want sturdy rather than high end 'cause renters don't care like an actual owner would. Why would you stage to this degree? Guess adds to the show's drama.

It's created reality. He could have fixed it up by himself and since he works with the sisters, could have used some of their design ideas, too.
Wow, the renters stole a lot of things, including the kitchen sink, hood, and stove and even tried to take the bathroom counter? I hope he tracked them down and made them pay
Security deposit covers "cleaning" not destruction. That's what the courts are for... IF.... YOU.....can find them. They get away scot free, but live terrible lives. That's their punishment. Talk to previous landlords. If there "aren't any" don't rent to them. Check ALL references with long conversations, and credit reports. Parents are good for telling the truth about why their kids don't live with them. Renters insurance is for the renters incase the landlord doesn't fix something, not for restoration after destroyers. Definition of "normal wear and tear" is pretty broad. If you wouldn't let them live in your spare bedroom, don't rent to them.
Great advice. Also when they come to have an interview...walk them out and look in their car. If it's clean and tidy that's and indicator. If it's a mess they are a NO.
Come do my house.. it needs lots of work. Just recently bought it and having a hard time finding the right people to do the work.

He absolutely can. However, it's more trouble than it's worth--especially since the types of people who destroy rentals have no money.
He should have renters insurance to get reimbursed, plus their security deposit. Hopefully also a bond.

Huge improvements to this house - great job. But the styling is way, way too much. Just a bunch of stuff thrown in together. Not appealing or even nice.

I mean there are ways that you can renovate a house for free, you just have to be OK with, you know, kidnapping and killing people. No biggie.

Exactly the comment I was looking for - there's a back story here...
Not always, we had to move 2 hours away because of a job, so we rented it to someone who said they wanted to buy it. About a little over a year later they moved out without telling us, the carpets were urine-soaked, and their children carved words into the sheetrock. The toilet wasn't flushing very well, so upon taking out the old one to replace it, we saw why it wouldn't flush very well, there was a small can lid flapping, our guess would be one of their boys tried to flush it. Then they built a sorry-ass looking desk into the master bedroom wall, the wall was ruined when we pulled it out. We will never rent out again. We fixed it up and sold it, we broke even after all the repairs and from what we still owed.
