See the first point in this video, every time Primorac (blue) smashes the ball into the backhand side of Maze (black shirt), he gets a high lob, but when he smashes into the forehand side, he gets a spinny shot that is very hard to control and smash back... That's why most of the people try to smash the ball only on the backhand side - to lower the possibility of counterattack since it is harder to counter from the backhand side :)

Table tennis forces you to play "within" constraints. 1. There is slight risk in changing direction 2. Usually you want to keep the other guy as far as possible. 3. Person near the table generally controls the table. 4. Occasionally they do change directions or do a drop shot close to net but there is risk in it. ( just like tennis).

@AFCA4EVER You usually smash the ball down the backhand corner because then they are forced to be defensive unless they go around and loop it back with the forehand, when u smash it down the forehand corner it will be much easier for the opponent to counter it.

@AFCA4EVER because TT matches are actually quite boring a lot of the time (only the best are shown on highlight reels) i would assume they do it for entertainment? and it's actually pretty fun to do a smash-lob rally.

@AFCA4EVER no is not that simple. first the defender is putting severe amounts of spin thus making it imposible to change lines safely.The first rally the guy in blue is trying to get the other guy out of position and he keeps smashing to is left to avoid a forehand counter attack like the one at 00:12. . At 00:16 he changes lines but the other guy still managed to counter his shot. see when you are attacking you just want to keep it that whay.wait for and open space and finish it

@AFCA4EVER If he smashes on his backhand, the opponent is blocked and has to stay defending, but if he smashes on his forehand, the opponent can easily smash or topspin ... That's why they keep smashing on them . And don't think it's easy to smash, when the ball is that high it's kinda hard .

@AFCA4EVER There is a bigger chance of making an error if you try to smash into another direction.
the percentage of error will increase if they try to change direction of the smash since their lob got a lot of spin..
