11:16 I have played Gr. 1. A lot. So I think that the R18 profits really well from slip streaming. Why? Because the R18 (or any other LMP1-H) produces a BUNCH of downforce, but the moment you tuck into the slipstream, the tons of the downforce just mentioned is not generated. The car basically would drive as if you set the downforce settings to the lowest. Trust me guys, these LMP1s really go fast with a low downforce setup on straights. I believe if you left the downforce as is, these prototypes hit, unrealisticly, 300 km/h. But set the downforce to the lowest (now 800 front /1200 back) they can hit 330-340 km/h at Le Mans. As for acceleration, the R18's Hybrid power is deployed much slower compared to before the physics update, but still accelerates faster than a combustion-powered car alone. With BOP enabled, you are not able to tamper with the downforce, but the game just defaults to either stock or a bit higher downforce
I feel like with the newer updates, Group 1 cars are getting really difficult to drive. I can't lap Tokyo Speedway with the Bugatti, everytime I put my foot off the Throtle the car goes loose of direction. It is the best Le Man in terms of breaking tho. I was using the toyota before this and I kid you not if I tried breaking over 25% of the pedal I would ALWAYS get a lockup. With the bugatti it's just really easy to not get a lockup, but on quick corners, I just get the tyres sliding through the asphalt against the wall. The weight of the car seems to be dragging it everywhere and unless I'm pushing it in some direction "Accelerating". It will be going wherever it wants.
I hope that PD will change the grouping method of cars, cause it really annoys me seeing a Group C, Modern hypercars and Concept cars in one group + it kinda destroys the immersion. Would be much better if there were separate groups like in real life like for example 90s cars only, Touring cars etc.
it'd be very easy for them to just do the "select cars" like they do occasionally and only select all the Group C's, all the GT500's, etc. and then just balance them around their individual class, rather than the entire group. That way the single player doesn't get fouled up by giving them all their own groups but we still get more balance. Because it's absolutely infuriating how unbalanced group 2 and 1 is. There is no reason to drive 95% of the cars in both groups. It's always either the CLK LM or the NSX GT500 in group 2 and the 787B or flavor of the week LMP1 car in group 1.
I just started playing ACC and Monza is the training track. My best time in the first day was a 1:55 and watching this video has left me genuinely baffled 😅
Crazy to think Steve is an actual pro racer now...well done for achieving this brother..I hope you get to race and win on all the tracks on gt7 in real life someday!
the bugatti VGT has been one of my favorite offline cars . it handles very very well imo and i always thought of it as a sleeper , then again it probably never really was in the competition
Hey Steve. I know I'm late, but I just wanted to say thank you. This month has been rough. We're doing a renovation where we live and I've just started a new job. I haven't been able to play GT7 that much but your videos help a lot!
The R18, I think the torque of the diesel helps to keep pushing thru the added resistance of aero. The Hybrid only works at certain speeds and steering angles.
Mate, increasing air resistance increases the Power needed to keep accelerating. Power Is torque *rpm. It's simple as that (source im a mechanical engineer). It's possibile that the car Is still powerful in comparison to the resistances It creates with his body (It May have a good Power/cda), so It can keep accelerating. Torque alone doesnt tell you anything for Speed, Power does
@@marcobaldini4589 Um... I'm not gonna argue. I'll let you completely lack the understanding of powerband, and why a diesel may vary significantly in it's work force load, let alone stall load RPM capabilities that would throw rods out of a gasoline engine.
@@josephmatuszak3855 it's funny how i wanted to explain the concept of power, as you related torque to speed, yet you attack me with a topic that has nothing to do with Speed. Im telling you, for what concerns top speed, power/CDA Is the only thing that matters.
I've never played GT7, but wonder if the car size and it's aero (drag and downforce) affects how much slipstream you have. R18 is much small than Chiron, so it would give less of a slipstream, while benefitting a lot from Chiron's huge size compared to it.
I don't play the game but I did take a look at the base stats of each vehicle. I don't know if the R18 is actually treating it's tyres much better than the VGT given the instability over the kerbs and the high torque from the hybrid motor. The VGT gets value from it's weight by helping it settle itself over kerbs and bumps, but ends up loosing some of that high end acceleration to it as well. It also seems like the VGT might have more drag, that would be what's helping you on the brakes even if the car is giant. The Audi R18 seems to take the raceability simply because it's a lot lighter and has less drag. While the breaks might lack a little and the suspension might not handle the kerbs greats, it's a car that lends itself to a more skilled driver. Somebody who's looking to put their best effort into a race is going to extract more out of the R18. None of this is to say the VGT is slow (obviously it's not, it's faster in quali) but instead that the R18 seems to have a higher skill ceiling therefore has more pace to unlock.
I haven't tried this race, but I remember driving the Gr1 Bugatti in a Lap Time Challenge a few months ago. It's so grippy, it feels like a fan car. The performance strains believability, even before you consider that the car is based on the design of a 2 tonne monster. It makes a mockery of GT's pretences of simulation to have it be a handling car rather than a power car.
In terms of why the Bugatti is slower in the race - do the hybrids have smaller fuel tanks as they get some power from hybrid? So in order to have a similar range the non hybrid car would have a bigger tank, and suffer a bigger weight penalty especially early in a race. Or is the Bugatti lighter and suffers a larger fuel weight penalty as a proportion of its own weight. I might be completely wrong but I'm thinking the only major difference in conditions between qualifying and the race would be fuel weight.
I wonder why no one really looked into the Bugatti before this… it’s one of my go-to “I just want to get this weekly challenge race out of the way” cars ahahah I recall it being shown off in one of the license tests and I was immediately blown away at the traction, braking, and turning capabilities it had
the Bugatti has chops, it's just the aero which is only ideal for circuits with minimal mid speed turns. I'd avoid most VGT based cars that aren't based on traditional GT car aero unlike the Toyota FT-1 VGT Gr.3 which is essentially a detuned Class 1 car with the aero matching up with the Subaru BRZ GT300.
Kinda interesting that even at a track like this, handling cars are better than power cars. The GR010 is definatly the fastest of the 3, but it also the heaviest, and has the lowest downforce. The GR010 has 800kg front and 1000kg rear downforce at max, and is 1050kg, while both the R18 and the Bugatti have well over 1000kg downforce on both front and rear, and around 900kg. I think they might change the gr1. bop, cause pre-patch, I think this would have been a group c meta race again.
SuperGT, can you comment on why the mclaren briefly shown in the list at 3:40 isn't chosen for the race. It seems to have a much improved power-to-weight compared to almost all of the cars listed. Compared to the r18 it has nearly 300 more bhp at the same weight!
It was really nice being able to watch you getting tested and forced into a difficult position so the skill gets to shine a bit more than the usual. A shame we cant get this a bit more often. Good stuff
While im guessing the "barrier collision" penalty is to keep wall riding restricted, that barrier collision was detrimental all on its own and should not be penalized.
I always never understand how hybrid power works in this game. And that there is no way to control the deployment of it, that would be good if we got that in an update
See, everyone thinks just cause the top people are using a certain car it is the car to use so everyone was using the Audi and not trying other cars. It's like Daily Race B, nobody uses the Ford GT but it pulls on every car in a race
Finally ordered this game after so long. It seems like it's actually worth it now after the rocky start. Will I struggle in the beginning with credits or is there a good level up method like in gt4?

The Bugatti is also one of the best 800PP and 900PP cars for single-player content due to its braking, cornering, and fuel usage. It's a beast!

Audi: LMP1
