Thank you Pastor John, that was exactly what I needed to hear, you have released me from a great burden, that the devil has been using to keep me down. Praise and glory to the Lord most high and in him may all things be glorified.
If we are in Christ he has cast our sins as far as the east is from the west. Don't listen to Satan about your past sins or your future sin. Keep repenting and say humble before the Lord. Keep the breast plate of righteousness in place and your helmet of salvation. God bless you.
"In his amazing grace, God makes some sins gloriously devastating to our ego, and thus exceptionally fruitful for our eternal joy." I thank God for you both.
An example of our sin working for Good. Peter when he denied Christ. That sin hurt him so bad that he never wanted to feel that feeling again. It helped make him a good soldier for Christ.
My sins Worked Perfectly! They Lead me Back to God..after wandering in the desert for years listening to Men. I Listen to No One but God Within me from Now on. Men and their doctrines messed me up Terribly.
This is absolutely incredible truth! It also speaks to the suffering of believers in their various providential trials and afflictions that God ordains. We know that they are for good ultimately, but are often "natural evils" of a cursed world (catastrophes, illness, infertility, death, famine, demonic buffeting etc.) that others around us, even other believers, may not experience to the same extent as others. If we hold fast and don't grow weary, and by faith persevere, there is a PRODUCING of a greater "capacity" (Edwards, Piper) or eternal "weight/heaviness of glory" (Paul -2 Cor. 4:17) in relation to the God's rewards that FAR surpass any earthly temporal suffering. It really helps to keep from envy, jealousy, and comparing ourselves with other believers. Each man's praise will come to him from God. Praise the Lord!
Amen!! We should never boast. Because All our good works come from God. There is no one who does good, no not one. We have all gone astray. Our fruitfulness comes from the Lord 🙏🤣❤️
Romans 8:28 King James Version 28 And we know that all things *(except past sins?)* work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose.
God may permit us to fall into sin only to humble us. We as new believers think that we can stand firm by our own strength just like Peter did before he denyed Christ 3 times. After Jesus Saved me and I turned to God, after a short time I fell into a grievous sin, and like Peter I wept bitterly!! Today when I remember that dreadful season, it hurts alot, I believe God Greatly humbled me by that fall, so that I wouldn't become proud. God hates pride!! And it takes preaty nasty medicine to kill it. Falling into sin also shows us how dependant we are in God. We are in need of his grace and help every moment of every day. If God were to leave us on our own for one minute, we would fall into sin. That's why Jesus warned us to keep watch and pray always lest we fall into temptation!!! Thanks be to God for this question and our pastor John's answer. Praise God for his loving kindness and amazing grace!!!
It is surely right that God even works our sins for our good in various ways. That said, I think usually when we sin, our overall good will be less than it would have been if we hadn't sinned. But sometimes, as John Piper notes, God may actually cause greater good overall through a sin than if the sin hadn't happened. Of course, as Piper also notes clearly, this is no licence to sin. Firstly, sin hurts God, and how can his people be unconcerned about hurting him? Secondly, no genuine child of God will be comfortable sinning.
Amen, I agree with you 💯 a true child of God is afraid to grief his Father. Our sins broke Jesus heart. How can we do the evil that caused our Blessed Lord to suffer so much. When we sin, we are committing adultery. We are married to Christ. Oh how we desire to please him in every way right?
Colossians 3:9 tells us the deeds of the old self aren’t our deeds, we aren’t the old self and his deeds aren’t our deeds. The major function of still having memories of the old self is makes us hate separation from God more than any thing else does.
I believe they do. Let's be clear. We must remember that we've been Forgiven by our Lord Jesus Christ for our sins. I believe that we could use our past struggles and experiences when talking to others. I have. It opens doors, How? Well, A lot of people out there think that Christians are perfect and sinless and that we don't have/fall to temptation. I've found that when I've opened up to my past experiences and struggles the other person lets their guard down and lets you in. A perfect opportunity may present itself to share the word of Christ. To be able to share our whole story and in the end highlight how CHRIST made us FREE is to me a great thing.
Only last night I was wondering if some of the routes I took on my prodigal journey were maybe going to be helpful for evangelising. Woke up today and saw this.
Yea, you never know what God might call you to do, how you may be useful to him in his Kingdom. Don't stop praying that his will use you for his Glory 😂
John Piper is absolutely right that there will be degrees of blessing in heaven (i.e., the heaven on earth that the saved will experience on the new earth), and that these degrees will depend on how much we obey God now. Various Bible passages teach this, including 1 Cor 3:14-15: 'If anyone's work that he has built survives, he will receive a reward. If anyone's work is burned up, he will experience loss, but he himself will be saved . . .' (CSB) Piper seems to assume that these extra heavenly blessings will be everlasting, which I think is probably right, although I don't think the Bible is anywhere clear about this. I think it is just possible that some of the blessings may be time-limited. Incidentally, I would firmly reject the idea that time will not exist on the new earth. We physical creatures need time as a framework to live in, and the same will surely be true on the new earth where we will continue to be physical creatures.
When I saw this title I thought about for example, someone who had a pornography addiction, being saved, and then sharing their testimony to help others struggling with the same thing, we shouldn’t go on sinning, but because of our past sins we can do good and help others, does that make sense? Also 100% agree, when I do stumble it causes me to seek God more earnestly
I do need some advice from you, however, regarding some other elements of God's Laws and how to follow them. 1. Leviticus 25:44 states that I may possess slaves, both male and female, provided they are purchased from neighbouring nations. A friend of mine claims that this applies to Mexicans, but not Canadians. Can you clarify? Why can't I own Canadians? 2. I would like to sell my daughter into slavery, as sanctioned in Exodus 21:7. In this day and age, what do you think would be a fair price for her? 3. I know that I am allowed no contact with a woman while she is in her period of Menstrual uncleanliness - Lev.15: 19-24. The problem is how do I tell? I have tried asking, but most women take offence. 4. When I burn a bull on the altar as a sacrifice, I know it creates a pleasing odour for the Lord - Lev.1:9. The problem is my neighbours. They claim the odour is not pleasing to them. Should I smite them? 5. I have a neighbour who insists on working on the Sabbath. Exodus 35:2 clearly states he should be put to death. Am I morally obligated to kill him myself, or should I ask the police to do it? 6. A friend of mine feels that even though eating shellfish is an abomination, Lev. 11:10, it is a lesser abomination than homosexuality. I don't agree. Can you settle this? Are there 'degrees' of abomination? 7. Lev. 21:20 states that I may not approach the altar of God if I have a defect in my sight. I have to admit that I wear reading glasses. Does my vision have to be 20/20, or is there some wiggle-room here? 8. Most of my male friends get their hair trimmed, including the hair around their temples, even though this is expressly forbidden by Lev. 19:27. How should they die? 9. I know from Lev. 11:6-8 that touching the skin of a dead pig makes me unclean, but may I still play football if I wear gloves? 10. My uncle has a farm. He violates Lev.19:19 by planting two different crops in the same field, as does his wife by wearing garments made of two different kinds of thread (cotton/polyester blend). He also tends to curse and blaspheme a lot. Is it really necessary that we go to all the trouble of getting the whole town together to stone them? Lev.24:10-16. Couldn't we just burn them to death at a private family affair, like we do with people who sleep with their in-laws? (Lev. 20:14) I know you have studied these things extensively and thus enjoy considerable expertise in such matters, so I'm confident you can help. Thank you again for reminding us that God's word is eternal and unchanging
I think the idea that the degree of joy that Christians are given in eternity depends on their good works here leads to dependence on one's work. And it makes the works of Christ in saving us is limited just to allow us enter the heaven and doesn't guarantee maximum joy. Don't you think that limits the work of Christ? Do I have to depend on my works to have the maximum joy in heaven? Doesn't the work of Christ guarantee my joy inspite of my works here as a christian? Is the work of Christ on the cross just to ensure my entrance to heaven? CAN YOU TELL ME A VERSE THAT SHOWS THAT THE LEVEL OF JOY CHRISTIANS ENJOY IN HEAVEN DIFFERS BASED ON THEIR PERFORMANCE HERE ON EARTH? In the first place, are there different levels of joy in heaven? The other question I have for pastor john is that does PRIZE make sense with out pride of earning it and the joy of being envied for high achievement? I m from Ethiopia and my English might not be good; and therefore I ask for your patience. I actually love most of your teachings and views.

At the judgment seat of Christ, believers are rewarded based on how faithfully they served Christ (1 Corinthians 9:4-27; 2 Timothy 2:5). Some of the things we might be judged on are how well we obeyed the Great Commission (Matthew 28:18-20), how victorious we were over sin (Romans 6:1-4), and how well we controlled our tongues (James 3:1-9). The Bible speaks of believers receiving crowns for different things based on how faithfully they served Christ (1 Corinthians 9:4-27; 2 Timothy 2:5). The various crowns are described in 2 Timothy 2:5, 2 Timothy 4:8, James 1:12, 1 Peter 5:4, and Revelation 2:10. James 1:12 is a good summary of how we should think about the judgment seat of Christ: “Blessed is the man who perseveres under trial, because when he has stood the test, he will receive the crown of life that God has promised to those who love him.”
1 Cor 3:14-15 clearly implies that Christians will receive different levels of reward after the judgment: 'If anyone's work that he has built survives, he will receive a reward. If anyone's work is burned up, he will experience loss, but he himself will be saved . . .' (CSB)
@ You are right that believers will have different levels of reward. But all the passages that you mention that talk about crowns, are talking about crowns that EVERY believer will receive.
@ If that is the case, I m sure I will not have any of them because I don't qualify for any. As much as I can I try hard to live a morally right life. But the standards of God are too high to meet for me, except Jesus helps me or have mercy on me. But what if I don't have any of the crowns you mentioned? I think the lowest of heaven is much much better than hell. Its good to have even access to heaven than going to hell. I m already in hell (Ethiopia, the worst country to live in the world) and I can't afford to have another one in the future. In any case I believe God is beyond the bible and all our understanding. I m sure I believe Jesus as my Lord and Savior. The rest, I leave for God. I don't know joy here on earth and I don't think I miss it in heaven. I m well experienced to live without joy. What is joy? I think its a long story. By the way I m planning to die by suffocation in few weeks time. It became my concern just for this reason. When I meet Him I will tell Him that I got no good works but love Him. And if He lets me down, that will be acceptable. (There are billions of souls in hell and most of the world is going there.) I say this because I can never produce any work that is worth a anything in His sight. I just want to be with Him no matter what. When I meet Jesus I don't need any crown. I know I will have no time and reason to feel sorry for crowns. Let me meet Jesus and miss crowns. Jesus is worth of trillions of crowns. Even if get them they will not amount to anything as compared to what Jesus did for me and I will put them under His feet for His Glory. I will not have time to adore and get astonished by my performance. All my time will be occupied by Him. Again if my words sound rude, I m sorry. Its because it is the voice of a depressed soul.
First of all, our salvation does not depend on our good works. None of us can keep the law of God perfectly, that is why Christ had to come, to fulfill God's law, and die for our sins. Our so called"good works" are nothing but filthy rags in the sigh of Holy God. We are Saved by Grace. We receive the righteousness of Christ Jesus by Faith in him. We can't win favor with God by our works. Tell me this, can you love your enemies? Do you love your neighbor as your self? Do you perfectly love God? He didn't save us because of anything good he saw in us, he chose to set his love on us not because we deserved it. We are justified by Faith alone by grace alone. Study the scriptures every day and pray always so that you may understand the truth about Salvation. May God bless you 🙏

God be merciful to me a sinner
Rather than boasting of ones good works

Yeah of course ! The master designer has all of it together.
Where does it say this in the Bible?

Does anyone know which Bible version/translation Piper used in this video?
I think he uses the English Standard Version, which is not a bad translation in my view.
