  • A "day in the life" of the Beatles in the recording studio. Going back to April 14th 1966 the day they recorded Paperback Writer. A great educational tool for those who are students of music, fashion, and history. In this video you get a little insight on how the beatles made their records, the way the looked, the clothes they wore, the instruments they played. great archival footage from this date in history.

On take one the instruments sound basically like the record. They mixed carefully the sound of each track before recording, EQ , compression, levels, so the final mix was just fader moves, adding effects, and all the kick drum, overheads, snare, etc, were already mixed.

@@padrejohnruffle it's not a bounce mix. It was a live mix of the band to one track, one overdub for bass, one overdub for lead vocal, and one overdub for all the harmonized backing vocals (with the backing vocals getting huge reverb treatment after they were already recorded).. which is why you don't hear the reverb effect on the backing vocals of take 2... comnplete final take but alternative mix with studio banter intro and without the fadeout of the final mix.

So cool to get a visual of them working together. You listen to some of the post-Beatle interviews from John (primarily the one's where that woman who shall remain nameless is in the vicinity) and some of the authors looking to sell a book or an article and you miss out on something elemental. Above and beyond all of it, they were friends. I've done my best to avoid regrets but there are two things I lament never having a chance to do in this lifetime, fly in space and see the Beatles work, either in the studio or on the stage. However, in this year (1.5.2021) when asked he said: “There's lots of other favorites, but if you want one, 'Come Together' can't be bad,” Starr said, noting it was his favorite Beatles song. “I just think it worked perfectly with the band and the song and John being John. So much goodness in this song... I have always liked those two rapid "machine gun" style rolls Ringo puts in the space between the two halves of each verse. Any other drummer would have filled that space up with any sort of good, competent drum fill, but not Ringo. Every time I hear them I'm mesmerized at how they don't seem to be on any particular beat and you can't really find the "1" in there, and yet he comes out of the fill with band dead on. It makes those gaps simply fascinating.

Yeah, it can be called "pop" because their songs were immensely popular, and not just young girls, most of their music appealed both the young and many of their parents at the time. You couldn't turn on the radio without hearing one of their songs come on within 10 minutes. They can be called a rock band too.
I think to call them either kind of sells them short. So many of their songs were constructed with such brilliant musical sophistication that goes way beyond pop and rock.
