    You did a lot of work putting together this video Sean so that's much appreciated. I do have a couple of questions though. I have a couple of AR636's that I got one way or another but I don't use them because I have no idea what the SAFE thing actually is. Nothing that I read on Horizon's site ever clearly explains it. At least not to me. I lost my eFlite Havoc 80 because of something screwy and I blame it on the SAFE receiver, not the servo connections like they try to say. I just flew the receiver stock assuming that SAFE was turned off but they didn't tell you anything about how to use it in the manual so I just left it as is. I've since rebuilt it and fly it with a Flex Aura 8 stabilizer and it flies extremely well.
    Anyway, you mentioned at the the end that your mock up would go into full SAFE with failsafe. You turned the plane upside down and something went funky with the ailerons and you said that was SAFE. Well, what was SAFE? What was happening? Does SAFE work with the gyro or is it something separate? I don't get it.

      Hi there I'm glad you have brought this up. In a couple days I will have all your answers. . short answer is SAFE sensor assist flight envelope.you can bind with to be used on/off with channel 5 reversed. Or bined always on. If the receiver was bought new by its self it's off until turned on with spektrum programmer. Safe keeps the plane from banking in all 3 directions to far.and self levels when not touching the sticks (auto pilot) when I flipped the test plane over the alerion were trying to roll the plane over. My guess you had some chanells reversed and then some how activated safe. And them in turn the gyro was working backwards to how you have the plane set up. Big video coming soon

      @@GRIFFINRCPLANES Thanks Sean. I'll look forward to that video. On the Havoc crash, no, not possible that anything was reversed. The crash happened toward the end of a 4 minute flight. When setting up on the downwind leg for landing the plane suddenly did a couple of fast 360 rolls, completely uncommanded. Roll ... stop level ... roll ... stop level ... and then it just dove to the ground. Horizon sent me a new airplane because this was a known bug. They even sent a new 6S 5000 Smart battery! This is why I've got 2 AR636's. They insisted that it was their servo connector. And now they've discontinued the Havoc 80. Too bad because it's a great flying jet.

    All great info. I like to set my failsafe to zero throttle with ailerons and rudder set for a gentle left or right turn and just a touch of up elevator. If I do lose the signal connection in theory I shouldn't have to walk too far to retrieve my plane.

    • @GRIFFINRCPLANES
      @GRIFFINRCPLANES  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      That is a great theory and gave me a good laugh. Yes we need to consider the walk of shame

    just did my spektrum aeroscout ar631 receiver. Bind with throttle at zero and it failsafes at zero. If you bind at full throttle it will failsafe at full throttle. I found out the hard way to shut my transmitter off (newby) at the field before taking out battery from aircraft, and the propellers max out. luckily i was holding on to the plane at the time.

    Cool demo Sean. Good to see you at the field on Sunday.. I use and program Ar636 receivers, but reprogram them with 3 flight modes and do not use Safe select. In this case I think you must choose either Hold or Pre-set ? If you or anybody else have experience in this, it would be great. Thanks again RHN in Nashville

      . I will check into the different choices in fail safe with the 636 the next time I have one connected to the computer. Hey good to see you also. I may be there tomorrow . in case you are going monday?

  • @ltk20
    @ltk20 ปีที่แล้ว

    Interesting, so when it fail safes to “safe mode” I assumed that would be wings level like normal safe mode. It appears, fail safe mode is full left and aft throwing it into a spin. Am I correct on this? Thanks

    • @GRIFFINRCPLANES
      @GRIFFINRCPLANES  ปีที่แล้ว

      The default fail safe is however the plane is bound. So if everything is centered when you bind it. And if you ever lost signal then all control surfaces would go neutral and motor off. . When you gain signal everything would go back how you were flying. The fail safe as you described can be set up that way

    • @ltk20
      @ltk20 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@GRIFFINRCPLANES I just tested it on my Timber X and it failed to safe mode when I turned off the transmitter. Even with safe off, it came on and maintains level flight. Obviously didn’t do this in the air but I picked it up and i fights to maintain level wings just like safe would do. Under the settings I have it set as fail to “hold” for each flight surface.

    i crashed into a tree with my apprentice stol 700mm bnf and i noticed that ruder was lock on turning to the left, i couldn't turn it, i keep going, i was in safe mode.
    Do you thing i lost signal and plane entered in fail safe?

    Just bought an eflight A10 thunderbolt 2 BNF. The moment I binded the plane to my nx8 transmitter the front landing gear continued to turn, one flap dropped and I had no control of the rudders , flaps and I couldn't stop the gear from turning right continuously... if you have any input please let me know... the plane came out of the box this way.. and I have no clue what to do

    • @GRIFFINRCPLANES
      @GRIFFINRCPLANES  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      if you have the nx8 then add the a10 to your models. make sure you are adding the correct a10. that plane first came with a 636 receiver so there are 2 different e-flite model numbers. efl????? then rebind it from scratch . let me know if that works if not we will try something else

    Do you know if the ar631 series does the same as the 636? My idea is, can you do a video on creating a throttle curve?

    • @GRIFFINRCPLANES
      @GRIFFINRCPLANES  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      The smart receivers such as the 631 does the same as the 636 and ALOT more. The 636& 6335 program from your computer and a app with smart phone or tablet and the smart receivers program from your transmitter only how ever they use the same app and computer program to upload preset models and updates. Yes I can do throttle curve. Give me a few to figure out filming the transmitter screen better
