Let me try to answer.
A seasoned polotician start campaigns a day after election day. Why? Politiking is in many ways like marketing. You need to stay 'top of mind'. You want voters to always notice you so you stay relevant.
By starting campaigning immediately after election day, I don't mean that he/she should nessesarily hold a rally. No. Just a simple action like congratulating the winner or disputing the resuls, thankng your agents and voters and telling them what the next step is keeps the voters talkig about you. And like in marketing, that's a very good thing.
