TDCJ is fully responsible. Anytime an inmate is transported they should have a tracker put on them.

Not making no excuse I saw that video and I think it was the injured bus driver and prisoners on the bus is why they didn't chase after him and waited for back up. I will say so many things went wrong on DOJ part. Is to why he was able to get out of cuffs cut gate on bus open and stab driver and got away. Bad on their part in so many ways. Sorry what happened to that Family.

Yea looked into it and apparently the handler is vital, especially if other conditions aren't ideal for tracking. If the handler isn't reading the dogs right he can lose the trail and not know it. Plus if the dogs don't get a good sample/initial scent to base the track on, then the trail can be weak. In this case it might have only been the seat he was sitting on, or his cuffs, but I assume both could be somewhat easily contaminated or weakened. Also learned that dogs can track through water pretty easily. Idk how he did it but like the rest of the ordeal I wouldn't be surprised if tdcj had some less than proficient bloodhound handlers..

The subject had inside help. From correction officers. The offender should have been strip searched prior to getting on that bus. He had wire cutters to cut through the cage, or a blade. Were those implements on the bus, already in the cage? Was the bus searched prior to offenders boarding it? Was the referred officer sleeping while on the bus? Why did you not put the offender down when he was stabbing the other CO? Why would he just stab the driver in the hand? Who was responsible for the search? They should resign immediately, as should the director of TDCJ. The state of Texas just proved that they cannot properly contain offenders, the police in Uvalde choked when they let an 18 year old high school drop out remain in a school and continue to kill children. Parents who demanded they hard enter the school were pepper sprayed and handcuffed. And Robert has visions of sugar plumbs dancing in his head that people will surrender their guns. I have yet to hear him squeak about the failure of law enforcement. You can train a chimp to write tickets. But it remains painfully clear that when seconds count, police are minutes away.

Incident reports following the escape detailed multiple issues including broken and incorrectly placed handcuffs, a lack of surveillance on the bus and a broken metal detector at the prison. The reports detail that not one single failure led to the escape but a series of errors.
Beyond equipment and facility failures, the reports found 28 Texas Department of Criminal Justice employees broke or outright ignored security policies. Trafficking, falsifying documents, advanced notice of transports, and search issues were all violations mentioned in the reports.

The cop just sat and watched the escape. He sat in his patrol car and watched a CO fight for his life, and then the inmate run back in the bus! Also, if I was the CO riding shotgun I'd have unloaded into the scuffle. When I was a CO at a high security unit, I knew what I was signed up for, and death was one of the least bad possibilities. I still have nightmares.
The driver also should have flipped the bus if the situation was out of control. A cop was near and the inmates making noise to cover the murderer cutting through the cage makes them accessories.

Prison buses should be made like a semi or a moving truck/uhaul style where the drivers cab is a separate compartment from the bad cargo area where inmates are kept. That way even if they unshackled themselves, the driver and front occupants are still safe from any harm and there’s nobody behind them. Of course bulletproof windows so incase of anything, all they have to do is keep their two doors locked and radio for back up.

He shouldn’t have even been on that bus. He should’ve been busting large boulders down to road base, growing and harvesting his own food, and especially without FREE electricity. 3 FREE meals a day. FREE television. FREE education. FREE healthcare. FREE transportation. I don’t have a bus come pick me up if I have to go to the doctor. They commit crimes and are treated like hotel guests with a schedule. Jails are not harsh enough.
