I forgot how broken Metal Sonic is in this game. He can jump higher, has the highest acceleration and base speed and his black shield protects him from the opposing player's attacks. The only thing that can slow him down is time stop/chaos control, which can be broken out of faster by mashing the buttons. I know him not being able to use special attacks is the drawback of choosing him, but I think his highs outweigh his lows.
I definitely agree there. However, another drawback to Metal is that he has poor traction, which the manual describes as him not being able to use brakes easily.
Amy is even more broken cuz the amount of rings to do special attacks is cut in half for her. She only needs 20 for Storming Heart and 30 to do Amy Flash. So you can just spam the fuck out of her attacks on the opposing player into submission. Unlike Chaos Control/Time Stop which actually stops time and freezes the opponent in the position they currently are in as well as hazards and enemies, Amy Flash causes you to be locked out of the controls while everything else still moves. So if this happens while right over a pit, on a loop de loop or a rail you fall straight down to your death and it makes you a sitting duck to enemies. Even makes Metal's shield worthless and a sitting duck since Amy Flash just cancels out Black Shield.
Having fully balanced characters in a multiplayer game is overrated. What is the point of choosing between multiple characters if none of the characters are any better than any of the other characters? Though you might not be wrong. I don't know how good Metal Sonic is, but if he is like gen 1 MewTwo, THATS a problem.
2:25 how did Metal Sonic move so much faster? His base speed is more than Sonic, Shadow, and Amy but at that moment Sonic was still using the super shoes and we saw earlier in this race that the super shoes make him faster than Metal Sonic so how exactly did that happen?
Given the right amount of time and polish, I think the multiplayer battle part of SA2 could have been so much more fun. It's a difficult question to answer; how do you make a game with so much speed engaging to play? Ring count being tied to speed bonuses would have been a good start, a bit like the function of rings in the Riders games. Homing attacks and being invulnerable midair was a huge issue because it basically invalidates the concept of attacking an opponent directly. Alternate paths that close after entering them via switches, pressure plates or triggers would have been another good idea, or catch-up paths that could only be opened once the player in first opened them. All in all, the game's huge lack of variety in options and agency on how to catch up was the problem I think they should have alleviated the most. If both people are going the same speed, it's only going to be a game of mistakes, but with a lack of complexity in response, it's basically like checkers instead of chess. I don't know. I love this game more than anything in the world; thank you for making these. I love multiplayer TAS runs.
I find to be more of a fun casual mode rather than a competitive thing, not only the levels were made easier but some attacks and alternate skins are outright broken. But to totally adapt the levels to make a complex multiplayer experience with alternate paths and such would require too much work and time that Sonic Team didn't have :(
@@sanglish18 Yeah, it's unfortunate, you know? Given the resources they have now you would think they would maybe even attempt to make a Sonic title with a fun and replayable multiplayer experience. They definitely have the teams to put it together but sadly we're left to people making stuff like ChaosX's Project-06 to fill the void. I sincerely hope that since Unity is so robust user created content will eventually generate a more robust experience for people who want multiplayer or perhaps even something online. The thing is, Project-06 is not just a full-on recreation of '06 in the Unity Engine, it essentially has the power to become a modifiable fan-game with a lot of extra user-generated stuff. That's my hope at least, anyways. Given how many fan-games have come out over the past 5 or 6 years (Project-06 itself, Sonic Omens, Sonic I2020 and I+ Unreal Engine) I think it's safe to say that loyal fans of the game will make something if they know what platform people will play on.
@@Crowald Sonic racing has received a fair amount of love, it just wasn’t packaged in the traditional platforming format. There’s the kart racers and Riders, the first Riders is complex enough that it’s considered a true competitive game. What Sonic Team could really elevate to a whole new level with today’s technology and game development knowledge would be the Chao Garden. The depth of the Chao and their AI was impressive for the early 2000s, if they did a modern CG with a sizable budget and ambition it could be a baby/pet sim they could only dream of creating in the turn of the millennium. If they made a game entirely about Chao they could even throw in more mini games and perhaps some monster taming elements with an RPG mode or something.
Well, This was a fun inclusion. Sa2 was made for the Sega Dreamcast. Then they decided to reboot it and introduce it to the Game Cube and pronounced it Sa 2 Battle, which was the best idea they could've ever done because it grew so many fans and sales, because of it. Sega also did this with Phantasy Star Online. They reboot their games with extra perks. Something like that would be frowned upon on in this day of age, but I'm glad they did it because I would be missing alot of fun games I grew up with.
1:26 Мне так нравится, что несмотря на то, что игрок за Соника был впереди и получил бонус, всë же подождал соперника, чтобы в конечном счëте обогнать его. Х) Это так в стиле Соника)))
What earnest amateurism vs deep understanding of game mechanics looks like Metal Sonic commanded a better knowledge of shortcuts and minimizing air time so as to stay on his feet and get the most speed. He also understood how his shield worked, and never stopped trying to make progress. Maybe the Sonic player was just playing for funsies, but he literally stood still to wait for MS to catch up. Thats very in-character for Sonic but questionable in a race. Sonic also seemed to roughly know the map layout but didnt take advantage of his spindash, or better manage his Specials. Sonic Wind against MS's shield is useless but Sonic never caught on -- waiting the extra 20 rings for a time stop could have been more effective.

for some reason with metal sonic when it comes to loops and grinding his speed excels everyone in the game. not sure why but yeah lol
Metal sonics physics are different and he will blast through loop d loops
That's because Metal Sonic can reach top speed faster. You can be fast asf, but it doesn't matter if you can't even hit your top speed.
Sonic was so close yet so far. Metal Sonic for the win!
