This video has it all. A great black Rhythm and Blues singer in Dorothy Moore, 3 great backup singers, a great live performance by a great band and NO autotune. 100 years from now people will look back on these times as the Golden Age of R&B.
The beautiful legendary Ms Dorothy moore ❤️
Dorothy's dad sang with The Five Blind Boys of Mississippi under the stage name Melvin Henderson so her roots are in gospel music. Since her success with "Misty Blue," she's alternated between recording secular music and returning to her gospel beginnings. "Misty Blue" itself was originally a country music hit for Wilma Burgess in 1966 and then again for Eddy Arnold in 1967. It was Joe South's cover of it in 1972 that prompted Moore's record label Malaco to suggest she record it for the r&b and pop market. It became a #3 hit on Billboard's Hot 100 in 1976. Thanks Cynthia & Harri.
You're welcome John. I enjoyed the video.
Engelbert Humperdinck also had a hit with it, I believe around 1968 or so.
Great background information, thanks!!
Best slow dance song back in the day.
I had this on vinyl as a kid. She has a beautiful voice.
Stunning voice. She should've been a mega big.
Harri, this song was a water shed moment in my life when I heard it 50 some odd years ago. It started my journey into music and I still get goosebumps whenever I hear it. Great that you got the video of it,she certainly owns this song.
Love this song. I was 16 when it came out. So soulful.... Great bassline....
Always loved this song but first time for me too seeing this live! Thanks so much Harry!
One of the best R&B ballads song by real Royalty❤
Thank you Harri and I'm glad that you found a good live version.
Sexy, romantic and great vocals-- it's solid gold, Cynthia! Wonderful selection!! Thanks to you and Harri!
@@pncombies Why thank you Neal.
Beautiful, thank you Cynthia and Harri.
So glad that you liked it Clint.
This has always been one of my favourite songs. Thanks.
This is my favorite song and singer of ALL TIME. The way she hits those notes is perfect.
Forgotten favorite, Beautiful made me cry❣️
Nice pick Cynthia. Dorothy has a beautiful and soulful voice. 👍👍👍
Thank you Ima. She really does have a beautiful voice.
Oh Cynthia! I love you for requesting this song. It’s one of my favorites that I had nearly forgotten about. Fantastic performance and commentary from Harri. Her velvety voice just melts me. I just realized this was from Don Kirschner’s Rock Concert! I used to watch that a lot. A great blast from the past! I love how her facial expressions and demeanor just exudes warmth. Thanks Cynthia and Harri 🌺✌️
Ditto 💞
Thank you Debbie I used to love Don Kirschner's show.
@@anidiquaojala1804 Thank you.
Middle of the road ballad. The lady is gifted with a fine voice and obviously trained it with hard work. Any other hits ?
When this came out doing the 45 time period, this is the only record my mom had us to go buy
Thank you Cynthia ❤ Beautifull selektion as always 🙏😇 Thank you Harri
Thank you Agnete. 💜
One of the great early classic songs about love and regret from Dorothy. Raised by musical parents, she started singing in the church, then she found the blues while at Jackson State and fell in love. She became a member of The Poppies and released the song, " Lullaby of Love" which made it to Number 56 on the Billboard Hot 100's and sang backup on Jean Knight's hit " Mr Big Stuff in 1971.
She recorded Misty Blue, which sat on the shelf for 2 years, before Eddie Floyd heard the tape and sought Dorothy out. Adding her signature hum to the start of the song, this became a massive hit when released. Dorothy's dynamic voice with such beautiful dimensions, marvelous back up singers and addictive instrumentation make this a memorable masterpiece. It's been on my Playlist forever. So beautiful. Great reaction Harri to a timeless mastetpiece. 😊 Thanks Harri and Cynthia. ❤👏👏 Cheers from Canada 🇨🇦
Glad you enjoyed it Mary and Happy New Year.
@Cynthia... Happy New Year Cynthia. 🎉🎉🎉 Wishing you a great 2024. ❤️
Love this video!! Dorothy Moore can still belt this song out today - it will give you goosebumps! She is a wonderful vocalist who has been under celebrated !
Just no words !!!
Great song! "Misty Blue" was Dorothy Moore's biggest hit in 1976. She had some other ballad songs that became hits such as "Funny How Time Slips Away" & "I Believe You".
Love this song thank you Cynthia and Hari
You are welcome Vicki. Glad that you liked it.
Another gem of a tune from music's greatest decade, the amazing, fabulous 1970s. That decade rules big time. But shout outs to the 60s and the 80s, luv 'ya loads as well!!!!
Goosebumps!!!! 😘😘😘😘
For anyone who loves music, check out David McAlmont's version on Jools Holland's show. **melts*** ❤
I loved telling people I'm a Bestie.
This is a lover's song. What memories
On your back wall. I saw Maggot Brains. I'm a 70yr old white man from the south. Had the album in my late teens. Damn brings back memories. Thank you
Yes, I love her vocals. ❤
I have never heard the term backing vocalist until I started watching reaction channels within the past two or three years. They were always called back up singers not backing vocalists.
I first heard another lady sing it in 1966.
Please consider reacting to: Lucinda Wiliams - "Lake Charles" [Live From Austin, TX]. She's my pick for best female singer, lyricist, poet, vocalist. Like for Bob Dylan, the greatest complaint about her is the voice. Like him she has many voices. Her breakthrough album is: Car Wheels on a Gravel Road.
I love "Lake Charles" and I don't think it gets the attention it deserves in her catalog. Great characterization, fantastic vocals--especially the lovely harmonies of the chorus. On the other hand, I used to drive my besties crazy with my rendition of the gritty "Joy." 😏
Love on George
I had this record when it was released
The Slow Jammmmm 🤩 would like for you to do a review on Millie Jackson.
❤❤❤..
So so smooth!
I always thought she sounded so similar to Aretha.
The follow-up is a tremendous version of the Willie Nelson classic "Funny How Time Slips Away" th-cam.com/video/TGtaFXgnE-Y/w-d-xo.html
I Will by Ruby Winters is also good
Excellent suggestion! 😊
I put Dorothy right up there with Aretha Franklin.
Isn't that blow away this modern crap
Check out Engelbert Humperdincka version not as foodbas this but certainly veey good
