I've been an xbox player for the last 7-8 years, but recently I saw a PS2 in my local CEX, I decided to get it to play this series again, as it was a fond childhood memory. However I was scared that the game may seem dated. So far I've only actually starting playing number 1 (I did only get them yesterday!) but it has been an absolute blast. My fears about the game being out of date were unfounded, the graphics were surprisingly good for a game this old and the gameplay is still very entertaining.
The thing that got me about this collection was the amount of glitches. Audio glitches, cutscenes ending and only loading a black screen where you can still move around but you can't see what's happening, and the quick select wheel getting stuck and not closing despite gameplay continuing were frequent enough to annoy me. The original games are great, but this port and HD re-release was poorly handled (in my experience anyway). But I agree, an 8.5 with no complaints is ridiculous.
fran jaff were you playing on Ps Vita? I've heard the Vita ports aren't the best but I have yet to try them. On PS3 I've spent a lot of time with all 3 games and have all the platinum trophies to show for it. I don't recall encountering any glitches/bugs on PS3.
Mitch9894 he didnt directly say anything negative about the games, but he did say that "the jump between 1 and 2" were bigger because the controls have been more polished. Which means he thinks the first game didnt control all that well, which is true as it doesnt have a locked strafe like the rest of the ratchet and clank games have
Guys, IGN has absolutely NO IDEA on how to rate games. You could find a crappier series on the Xbox that will have a better rating because all IGN cars about is that pile of trash.
when my parents first bought me a slim model when they came out, the games they would come with was R&C3 and Grand turismo, I had never bought a ratchet and clank game in my life, and up your arsenal was my first ever played on Play station. I Fell in love with it, and after realising and being like "Wow, if this is so good I can't wait to play going commando and the first one" Played the others and didn't get the same effect with "Up your arsenal" But holy crap it was the best. Usually when people make a game series, it starts off good and slowly degrades, although with Ratchet and Clank I just found that the viewings and scores inclined rather than decline and it just kept getting better! I will always remember this is my favourite child hood game.
Same, my parents bought me the ps2 slim model when it first came out and it came with 3 games: Ratchet & Clank 3, Gran Turismo and Lego Starwars. I loved R&C 3 so I bought R&C 2 and the original one later on
The third game was probably my favorite, followed by Crack of Time. Up Your Arsenal was just such an incredible game with one of the better villains, before Dr. Nefarious became an overused character (the fact he appeared far and few between and was not present since the third game justified it), and was even better than some of the Future games like Tools of Destruction.
i love r&c in general. in literally all of the games and especially in terms of weaponry. 3 just nails it perfectly. visually, in terms of sound and gameplay. just practically perfect.
This port was actually pretty shitty. Graphical glitches that got worse with each game. Going Commando skipped cutscenes, Up Your Arsenal had the sound FX of the ship all mixed up during the planet travel. Ratchet's helmet doesn't fit properly, and his eyeballs go inside his head and in some cutscenes you can see characters just awkwardly standing at the side (which is pretty funny tbh). And then don't even get me started on Deadlocked/Gladiator... So broke! I love this series but looking at the Jak and Sly collection, it pisses me off that they couldn't do a nice and smooth conversion for Ratchet and Clank. Screw you Idolminds.
@@alvexas5510 I have the digital copies of all 4 of them and had the same issues. It's the same game regardless of the distribution. Gladiator/Deadlocked is the worst offender though. All the cutscenes are straight up broken.
SuperMinerMage agreed about going commando being the best of them but I also really liked the first game. it was a classic in it's own right but the weapons in going commando were just much better.
i feel like it didnt blend platforming, exploration and gunplay well. I respect your opinion, and the Ratchet and Clank fanbase is mostly tied between GC, UYA, and CIT, but i found GC to just be the more enjoyable game.
Whoa whoa whoa, only an 8.5!!!??? This thing deserves a 10 for taking my childhood and not to mention some of the greatest games give them a beautiful makeover and putting it on one disk for my favorite game system.

Personally, the three Ratchet & Clank games are 10/10 material. The HD collection however? 7.5/10. The porting job could've been a lot better. No sound in local multiplayer? Real nice, it's almost as if they never tested the thing before releasing it.
I just bought this and I am a little bugged by how some little details are messed up. Some textures are actually gone, and ratchet's helmet is too big for his head now. Its weird. I think the port isnt perfect perfect, but still a great thing to have on ps3
The PlayStation 2 was a phenomenal console, and it's easy to see why it's still the best selling. But the PS3 was technically superior, and seeing one of my favourite PS2 games remastered in HD is such a delight. Crisp, clean graphics, a higher frame rate, increased resolution, but still retains the nostalgic charm. This was a must own for every PS3 owner

This collection deserves a 9/10. Three fantastic games from the PS2 era that was one of the unofficial mascots of the ps2 console now remaster to glorious 1080p, 60fps on PS3. Despite graphical bugs, this remaster is still worth your money.
How come whenever I see gameplay of Ratchet 2 and 3 his helmet is like floating on his head with his leather cap from Ratchet 1 underneath? In the version I had, his helmet was actually down on his head and it looked better.
Got this for 19 bucks at a local game shop. Brings back so many memories of all three games. Up Your Arsenal is hands down one of my favorite games of all time. Even if there was a few bugs and glitches in the HD collection, I don't think hardcore fans like me will notice at all.

These games were and still are amazing I was so pissed when the gameplay of the 2nd and 3rd games were extremely laggy and unplayable just ordered the trilogy online yesterday and I can't wait until it arrives in the mail!!!!!
The sheer naffness of the ""next gen"" is a great excuse to give it the finger and go back to classics I never got to play Beyond Good and Evil Psychonauts God of War Jak & Daxter trilogy and this has definitely made this list.

To be fair though, it was all assumption. ND never announced plans to return to J&D after Uncharted and as you are often keen to point out they had said they were a one francise-per-console company. Personally, I thought we'd see an Uncharted racing game. What with ND's track record. But I guess TLOU is the alternative since an Uncharted racing game would be pretty silly.

Yeah, but the *series* was not cancelled. And while a Jak game was in the works, we never found out about it until after the announcement of TLOU. So there was no reason to think ND were about to make a new Jak game until we were told about this. Fail.

Why does the reviewer say this collection runs at native 1080p? I have all resolution boxes checked in my display settings (720p,1080i and 1080p are checked) i have a native 1080p tv and the XMB dashboard on my PS3 says 1080p and i go to the collection and it displays at 720p, why? Is the game 720p native? Or is it actually 1080p native?
Honestly this HD remaster only deserves 8.5 but the games deserve 10/10. The remaster is full of visual bugs and slow downs, it isnt a perfect port at all, but its playable and still brings out the fun of the original trilogy.

This was literally the same review as the Jak & Daxter collection: Fanboy talks about beloved series getting an HD upgrade, gives almost entirely praises, only to give it a 9, or in R & C's case, an 8.5 Lame.
I have fond memories of Ratchet and Clank: Size Matters, and I've been wanting to revisit those Ratchet and Clank memories ever since my PS2 broke, so I've gotta get this collection.
The way they showed how R&C3 ran on PS2, it never had stutters when I played this back in the day. It runs pretty smooth. But the PS3 is a great improvement over all. I own both versions on Vita and PS3 and I got all platinum trophies for both versions ✊
I just borrowed my Friends PS3 and anothers R&C Trilogy and have been having a blast. Plus I learned Deadlocked (Gladiator) is only ten bucks so I bought that too
I remember buying ratchet and clank size matters on the PSP, man I loved this game. It's sad I didn't play any other ratchet games except for secret agent clank
I think that they refrain from the glitches in the trilogy that bring it down. I would rather buy the PS2 originals (which I did except for the first one), than get the ps3 versions? They've got a lot of fixing to do and I hope that if there's ever a Ps4 re-release, they better have the glitches fixed.
I bought this when it first came out. I returned it, I'm a huge fan, but this ps3 port played horrid and had massive glitches and problems. Did they ever patch them out?
i don't know if it's just me, but with my copy, the game stutters with Up Your Arsenal. at the end of every cutscene, there's a stutter, the scene stops for a second. i never figured out why. anyone else had this problem?

This trilogy was not the best remaster, the game themselves are incredible, but there are so many technical issues with this collection.

you've abviously just been gaming this generation and are only a teenager if you think these games are chidlis, you obviously cannot apreciate good games and instead play absaloute crap that is the same game in every installment, go play jak and daxter and ratchet and clank and you'll see how much effort insomniac and naughtydog put into their games which is what makes them the greatest developers of all time, then play cod, see the difference between a shitty game and a classic game?

To be fair though, it was all assumption. ND never announced plans to return to J&D after Uncharted and as you are often keen to point out they had said they were a one francise-per-console company.
Personally, I thought we'd see an Uncharted racing game. What with ND's track record. But I guess TLOU is the alternative since an Uncharted racing game would be pretty silly.
My childhood right there. My favorite games were two and three. Challenge mode completed more than 20 times. Never had that kind of feeling with any other game

Why does the reviewer say this collection runs at native 1080p? I have all resolution boxes checked in my display settings (720p,1080i and 1080p are checked) i have a native 1080p tv and the XMB dashboard on my PS3 says 1080p and i go to the collection and it displays at 720p, why? Is the game 720p native? Or is it actually 1080p native?
Honestly this HD remaster only deserves 8.5 but the games deserve 10/10. The remaster is full of visual bugs and slow downs, it isnt a perfect port at all, but its playable and still brings out the fun of the original trilogy.

I don't care about the graphics or the glitches...all I always wanted is to play my childhood games...I've always love the games when I was little and you came with 8.5?...I gave the game a higher score out of a FUCKING 10
This was literally the same review as the Jak & Daxter collection: Fanboy talks about beloved series getting an HD upgrade, gives almost entirely praises, only to give it a 9, or in R & C's case, an 8.5

I have fond memories of Ratchet and Clank: Size Matters, and I've been wanting to revisit those Ratchet and Clank memories ever since my PS2 broke, so I've gotta get this collection.
The way they showed how R&C3 ran on PS2, it never had stutters when I played this back in the day. It runs pretty smooth. But the PS3 is a great improvement over all. I own both versions on Vita and PS3 and I got all platinum trophies for both versions ✊
I just borrowed my Friends PS3 and anothers R&C Trilogy and have been having a blast. Plus I learned Deadlocked (Gladiator) is only ten bucks so I bought that too

I remember buying ratchet and clank size matters on the PSP, man I loved this game. It's sad I didn't play any other ratchet games except for secret agent clank
I think that they refrain from the glitches in the trilogy that bring it down. I would rather buy the PS2 originals (which I did except for the first one), than get the ps3 versions? They've got a lot of fixing to do and I hope that if there's ever a Ps4 re-release, they better have the glitches fixed.
I bought this when it first came out. I returned it, I'm a huge fan, but this ps3 port played horrid and had massive glitches and problems. Did they ever patch them out?
i don't know if it's just me, but with my copy, the game stutters with Up Your Arsenal. at the end of every cutscene, there's a stutter, the scene stops for a second. i never figured out why. anyone else had this problem?
