I have watched this DVD so many times I think I wore it out..One of the best movies to come out. Great acting, great singing and awesome music!! I even have both volumes of the soundtrack.
One of the Best singing parts of the whole film!! I just love how everyone is all into the "Soul" music and camaraderie of one another!! I'm black.. And I'm proud!!!!
When this was filmed, Robert Arkins (Jimmy Rabbitte) was going to be the lead singer of the band in the movie... then they heard Andrew Strong (only 16 at the time). They changed it so Arkins became the group's manager, made Strong the lead singer ("Deco" Cuffe), and the rest is history.
My aunties fella was gonna be cast as Jimmy Rabbit. It came down to the 2 of them but cos me aunties fella hadn't got a rough enough Dublin accent......they chose Robert. True story no bullshit. He was in a rock band & had they hair & all but just couldn't nail the accent otherwise they were gonna chose him. Funny i couldn't picture him playing Jimmys role in anyway. They made the right decision, he's a tosser in anyway haha & yeah it wouldn't have been the same with Deco "the bus conductor" not doing the lead singing
Thanks a mil, thx a trillion for putting up this exquisite excerpt of the indeed formidable 1991 Alan Parker movie. I quickly saved it among my "Most Preferred" ! I loved the film, loved the whole context of it and loved this particular perfect moment of the film. I also remember with fondness how the saxophonist pronounced to his amazed and aghast audience while practicing on the streets : "I'm black and I am proud !"
I always wondered who sang this tune for the band. Saw it in the theatre, own the soundtrack, always loved the song... never knew. Fokin’ brilliant tha’!
Soul, Rhythm'n'Blues irlandês (ou melhor, interpretado por irlandeses) já me ensinou, há muitas décadas, que alma não tem cor. Nunca mais eu duvidei disso, ou mudei de opinião!
even steven between this and Spinal Tap/A Mighty Wind for me Stillwater a close third funny how "fake" music can be so much better than most of the stuff popular right now
I watched the Commitments a few times and I've never seen this scene before. I do recognise it from the opening credits and from the soundtrack CD I've got. I knew Jimmy did the lead vocals to this one and I always thought Deco did the screaming. But I can't be right all the time
i dont remember this from the film? that guy never sang, he was the manager? No words are enough for a great singer like Andrew Strong... Love HIM!!💕💕💕💕
Think it was cut from film, shame as good song. On soundtrack though www.google.com/search?rlz=1CAMWDF_enGB734GB734&q=the+commitments+album+songs&stick=H4sIAAAAAAAAAONgFuLSz9U3MMw1KqsyVUJia4lmJ1vp55YWZybrJ-YkleZaFefnpRcvYpUuyUhVSM7Pzc0syU3NKylWAMsqgGV3sDICAMJnsr9SAAAA&sa=X&ved=2ahUKEwi4it655a3kAhUysXEKHeQQBQ8QMTAqegQIFRAK&biw=1093&bih=532
So much talent in this movie. And can you believe the guy playing the Telecaster is none other than Glen Hansard. He sure hit it big a few years ago with Once.
Great clip. I had never seen it before. It makes me think that it was not planned, it was a spur of the moment thing that just happened. I have turned up, unannounced, to band recording sessions, blown harp, and ended up on their C.D.s.
I've seen the movie so many times and I didn't remember this scene being in the movie either. Thanks to the commenters below, now I know I was right. I love the way this dude did this song. Fantastic!
this film is a fecking legend, thanks for posting this clip :) An old Roy Head and the Traits from Houston, TX song..............Great job.. Danny Boyle how could you cut this from the film? It's feckin brilliant!
The Commitments: one of the best films ever for those of us who love rock. Beautiful.
Ditto fantastic band.👍

On par with the Blues Brothers as one of the best Musical Movies of all time!
the sexiest backing vocals ever.. their voices are perfect!
Bernie McGloughlin?
@@Leo-wz4nh Sexy comes in a lot of packages.
Andrew Strong definitely reminds me of Joe Cocker: the voice, the face and the moves!
I fall in love, every time I see Angelines beautiful face.
Me tooooooo
I have watched this DVD so many times I think I wore it out..One of the best movies to come out. Great acting, great singing and awesome music!! I even have both volumes of the soundtrack.
20 years later...just as awesome as ever!

@@SandyYoung1 Still annoying partners while singing along.
Your comment is 12 fricking years old!

One of the Best singing parts of the whole film!! I just love how everyone is all into the "Soul" music and camaraderie of one another!! I'm black.. And I'm proud!!!!
That quote has stuck with me all these years. LOL
One of my favourite indie musical films of all time. Y'all gotta show y'all's kids this movie and love the music.
Best movie ever about rock, and what genius brought this amazing crew together!!!
And Glen Hansard on guitar.....talent here was unreal.
They were all amazing in their own right, but wow Andrew Strong... What a voice. X

I love this song and the commitments is one of time favourite movies
No words are enough for a great singer like Andrew Strong... Love HIM!!💕💕💕💕
Although a very good singer, the film wouldnt have been the same if he played deco,he played Jimmy Rabbit brilliantly :)
My aunties fella was gonna be cast as Jimmy Rabbit. It came down to the 2 of them but cos me aunties fella hadn't got a rough enough Dublin accent......they chose Robert. True story no bullshit. You could just vamp on a song like this forever, it would be an absolute blast to close your set with, or do for an encore..
Jaysus. I nearly prefare Jimmy's voice to Deco's. The screams at the end are class.
I have loved Jimmy rabbit for almost 20 yrs. beautiful man

This particular performance was on the DVD extras I believe although the audio was used for the opening of the film.
This was also used as a music viedo for the song as it was released as a single at the time the movie came out.
amazing stuff. i owe some of my love for old school soul and blues to this film.
Yeeeeeh. Yeeeeeh... Yeh!
I'm dancing.....
