I took up training both Goju Ryu and Tai chi chuan because of a brain injury. I love it, it has saved my life on so many levels. Just waiting for Covid to end and i grade for my Blue belt. I have certainly learned to control myself, I may never fight like most do, but that was not the point for me. It took me 2 years to learn to walk again before I started my training, my battle is myself :)
What people often fail to understand is that this type of Karate was not about competition, the loser did not stand in the Octagon to see the winners hand raised. It was about sudden violence and discipline. Just to watch a man like Higoanna and not be impressed with the power and hardiness is to be blind. Too many who have never really ever trained well in Karate are quick to pass judgement on that which they cannot understand.
Agreed. And Karate is much more than Just fighting, It is a way of life... People get old and healthy with Karate .. In sport they Get injured too much.....
How did you enjoy shorin and are you still cross training in both? Please describe the differences between the two. I like both styles but never trained in them. I happen to have both styles in my city so I'm curious
I never trained in any of the arts, but my brother did Goju Ryu, and it would always frustrate the siht out of me when he'd do a simple move which would hinder me in different ways when we were fighting, this stuff is definitely useful, but I won't let my bro know I think that, haha.
@@edtheangler4930 Kyokushin came from both Goju and Shotokan I believe, as Mas Oyama trained both. That's why you see some kata in Kyokushin that aren't part of the Goju system.
I Really wish I should have had stayed in karate it could have helped spider being used as a weapon it could save your life when things get too real these techniques in movements and speed agility takedowns reflexes strikes punches fros knockdowns kicks all these type of forms in karate in any other martial arts can make you strong more powerful I just wish I should have stayed in the one in 2011 I just can't believe I fold away all that time for nothing I just wish I could take it back 🥋🙏😔🙏🥋
Yes this is real goju ryu karate, a punch is a punch, trying not to be rigid stiff dojo style, more interested in how they would feel rather than how they look. Thanks for watching
@@dwddindin Not often in formal Kihon, but definitely in sparring and padwork. Goju has hook type punches in kihon such as kaga-tzuki and mawashi-tzuki where the non-punching hand comes back to that classic chambered position. You tend to abbreviate the techniques during sparring and pad combinations though.
Well it's quite similar. I think the difference is Kyokushin is more sparring oriented and Goju-Ryu more Kata oriented. The mindset is a bit different also I think. But pretty similar. More than Kyokushin and Shotokan anyway
@@kakuto435 I'm not sure I agree to this... Well maybe when it comes to full contact sparring. But all the self defense, bunkai, and some other aspects are better in Goju-Ryu. I believe one should do both, Goju-Ryu or Uechi-Ryu for the more self defense and techniques aspect and Kyokushin for the sparring
@@gojuryukarate157 It is definitely Goju Ryu, no doubt. They don't train it like that in Okinawa though. As the owner of a new school though, I'll be more than happy if my students look and move like your students. Rei.

Thank you Michal
Is this the stuff that Gary Spier used to teach and break heads with?
Are most goju dojos like this? Looks very cool, similar training and conditioning levels to Kyokushin
Thank you for your comments....kyokushin karate comes from goju Ryu so most goju dojos are very physical...take care🙏
