It's called lying on a Fed form, which is there because people who get high on drugs are considered dangerous when driving a car and carrying a deadly weapon.

And he should go to prison. And this is how the American justice system works. No press conferences attacking the prosecution, the judge, the judge's family, or members of the jury ala Donald Trump. No special treatment by his father, a real American President, who could easily pardon him, but won't. He won't even consider it. Donald Trump has brought so much embarrassment to this country it is unbelievable. Lock him up!

Anyone who recovers from addiction , would get probation. I have known many young people who have found themselves in a similar condition. Quite a few have died. The average citizen would get probabtion since , it is clear that he has followed the rule of law and manged his addiction which is extremely difficult. I am very impressed with his character and I wish him well. I have seen the heart ache of families who have dealt with losing their children over addiction. I have so much sorrow about the families that cope this epidemic. I have total compassion for this man and his family. I expect it will be appealed and he will win.

The case isn't about the addiction. It's about the LYING on a federal application to get a gun. That's a serious crime,, which is why it's a felony.

Imagine being impressed by the “character” of an addict. Maybe you have never known the level of toxicity that an addict creates in a family or community? The unhinged deceitful behavior of some to get what they want is disturbing. Some will go so far as to lie on a federal application, huh? Then try to turn it into a recovery ad to pull at the heartstrings of those who have lost family to addiction. 🙄 Myself I’m tired of hearing the lame excuses about life as an addict and how they deserve kuddos for being drug free. To say “anyone” would get probation for the same reason shows you how laws vary in each jurisdiction. Did you know that before your bleeding heart went into your comment? Did you know federal charges are very serious?

As a fairly left leaning (2A supporting) individual, you will not see me calling this rigged, or a scam, or otherwise. I believe in the rule of law, and trials by jury. The jury has decided, and I know myself and most others of my political familiars will support that decision. Certainly some appeals may come, but that is a matter of regular legal process to adjust charges and sentencing if they so choose.
But absolutely, if you are accused of breaking the law, indicted for breaking law, then tried and found guilty, you are subject to pay your debt to society for breaking the law. Whatever that may be. Let us hope Hunter changes his ways and is rehabilitated in whatever penalties he is given for these 3 verdicts.
This is also true for those who seem to want to elect a now proven criminal with no remorse to the Presidency and we are only at 34 guilty verdicts of potentially and likely hundreds more of that individual who doesn't even deserve to be named.

Who did he (Trump) hurt? Well, all of the felonious use of donor money, for One. Tampering with the integrity of elections and fair campaigning which got him elected. All of the subsequent illegal and shady as hell activity he has done (including receiving money via his family while in political office, taking and showing off national military secrets, attempting to overthrow the election, stopping oil production to increase demand and profits for oil, tax breaks for wealthy people and corporations, rolling back provisions that guaranteed basic medical services in the ACA, rolling back environmental protections, deregulation on corporate avuse of American citizens etc, etc) are a direct result of his manipulation of elections. There is no such thing as a *victimless crime* so just stop.
