My wife bought me a Squier Affinity Strat for Christmas last year. Perfect right out of the box. Sounds and plays great! It’s now my number one. $249 guitar. I haven’t changed a single thing about it and I’m not going to.
i have 2 Squiers, my first guitar Affinity who's with me since 2012, with pickups changed from FLEOR (only 35 euro) and believe me that sounds on par or better thant my other Squier which is... The same guitar as this video, the 40th anniversary in the same finish as yours. This cost me 289, more or less what costs a modern Affinity nowadays, and i'm gona keep it full stock bc it's beautiful and it's a limited edition, to wear away I have the Affinity which is a joy to play and the fact that I don't care if frets wears, or appears a ding on the body, makes me feel more like a personal thing than a guitar. Good vid!
I’d keep it mate - 100%! My Squier Classic Vibe 50s Tele is a keeper too. Total lottery when it happens because my brother bought one at the same time that had a dodgy jack and just didn’t sound good whichever way it was set up… But mine was perfect straight out of the box! Played two chords on it and knew it was a keeper. You just got to keep hold of the good ones
Help me understand, you say you love it, and by your actions, i believe you do, so, why would you not keep it? I say KEEP IT!!! Looks are off the chain as well....
I have the same guitar, swapped the pickups for Fokin Classic S. Best sounding strat tone of all of mine expensive strats. Give it a go, they aren't that expensive for a set. That CV will never leave my hands
i have the same guitar , i replaced the pickguard for a white plastic one , it made the guitar sound a lot brighter ( more high end indeed ) , it's a keeper for sure , no need for an mim or usa fender strat anymore . Maybe one day i will upgrade the tuners , brigde and pots /switch , but i am in no hurry , it's a great guitar as is .
Love this. We’re doing a video soon on pick guard materials because I’m sure metal ones have an impact. A couple of people like yourself have said they’ve changed to plastic and it improved the tone too
@@PherotoneStudios yes indeed , i saw some more comments in other vids about this guitar that the sound really improved when they replaced the aluminium pick guard for a plastic one , so that got me thinking and i also did not like the looks of the original pick guard , so yeah , happy now , the pu's don't need upgrading they sound great .
I own a Squier 50th anniversary 1996 , Golden logo, Korean CN serial ,Cort factory, E. Clapton dimensions Maple Neck satin finish , Solid Alder Body with upgrades , Fender Vintage tuners, left only 1 strings tree, Fender Vintage Bridge with big block, CTS pots, Alnico3 pickups in Neck and Middle, Texmex Alnico5 in Bridge, NYXL Daddario 10 - 46. In my 68 Custom Twin Reverb and especially in my Blues Deluxe with The Wizard Eminence Speaker sounds AMAZING , insane , believe me, the Tone is like a Fender 56 Strat or Eric Johnson Strat, souds like a 50- 60 Thoudsands Dollars, as good as my Fender Roadworn 60 Strat with Toneriders Pure vintage pups. UPGRADE IS THE ANSWER, when you find a good Body and a good Neck , save a fortune and the Tone is the same. Greetings from Chile.
Im with you, i think. I just cannot justify paying the xtra money for a fender. The classic vibe squier’s are just so good. Im going to change the pickups and tuners anyway, so even after i change them, ill still have less money in it. I dont care about the name on the headstock. I do want to try the 40th version tho.
Dude, before reading the description I was trying to find that guitar somewhere, I was confused, now i see that these are your mods. i am looking forward to build something similar.
Keep it!!! 😀 It looks and sounds fantastic! Seriously! I have the same Fender Player Telecaster you had ( in polar white ). I love the guitar, especially the pickups, but I have to do something with the sharp fret ends. I should have sent it back to Gak and exchanged it at the time. Love your channel mate, best guitar channel on TH-cam. I watched some of your older videos yesterday on building your studio, a really great watch. What an amazing job!! You should be massively proud of that! Cheers buddy 😀👍🏻
Keeper! I hope u kept it. Love the HSS set up. I sold off a lot of expensive guitars and kept the Squier Classic Vibe Strat and Tele. Stuck Mighty-Mite rail humbucker set in the strat and love it.
I brought an Amazon pro 2 as a 40th bday present, I then played a squire jazz master a few months later, it might have been a dud but it felt awful in comparison, now my Harley Benton gotoh and vintage v100 are a joy to play still
I have the same Telecaster version, I quite like it although my favourite Telecaster is my Squier 1984 Japanese, bought it new and it was set up just as I like them, the intonation was close to perfect although I have compensated saddles on it now, no high frets, the action was perfect, not too high not too low, I have recently changed to a Tusq nut as the original one got a crack in it. I bought better string trees years ago as the butterfly ones are horrible, I still have the original ones and have been thinking of spraying the bottom of them with PTFE and re-installing them as the ones I have on at the moment look odd on an old Tele. I have never changed the pickups as they sound awsome, I would put it up against any Fender USA Telecaster, IMO it is the perfect Telecaster.
Nice that you got a good one. Every single example of any 40th anniversary instrument at my local Guitar Center has been atrocious for going on two years now! Bad necks, pickup buzz, weird rattles . . . just felt like absolute garbage. Eventually I got a Vintera II Nocaster and have been really impressed.
Half of that sounds like it can come from setup are you sure it was a hardware fault? How was the feel/ playability between Vinterra & 40th anniversary.
Absolutely superb video. Im sorely tempted but my soldering skills are rusty to say the least, but maybe an Obsidian loaded pickguard is the way to go ? Excellent
Iv got the sunburst one of these and love it! The only slight gripe is that mine weighs a tone but considering how good it feels and sounds (all stock) I'll defo be keeping it!
Agree 100% from a bass guitar point of view. Got a used Squire 40th Anniversary P bass best player I have . Better than my Fender player PJ jag and way better than 75th anniversary Jazz . The frets were horrible. 2 hours to file and level frets. The Squire is perfect, satin neck and frets perfect. Stock pick ups were nice but threw in some Geezer Butler EMGs and with my driver sounds like a 2000 dollar bass. I paid $219 US on Musicians Friend.
you should try halfround or flatround strings because your sliding your fingers on the strings making a sound. It gets rid of it. I tried them and it works.
i think you should try the Squier Strat SE. Its well built but the pickups are meh. Others are just amazing. Would like to see you guys play it one day.
Do you remember the Custom Shop designed Squier series? I can't recall what year they came out but they are by far the best Squier series I've ever played. Haven't seen one for sale in around ten years but yours has very similar appointments.
I have American Stratocaster steel block pickups on my Standard Stratocaster (Squier) and they definitely ring out very nicely over the normal zinc. Fyi, theres no such thing as a 40th anniversary Squier Classic vibe.
Squire guitar's are okay they are fine for beginners or intermediate players to have something good to learn on. I would suggest changing the tuners and the pick ups but that's my opinion...
I love palying squires hire ens ones and hire ens model epiphones love so i dont destroy my expensive guitars and only play my expensive ones at larger shows and been playing for 25 uears and they all show signs of love and wear
30 minute job to replace it. that should not be the problem. but this guy just modified almost everything, so the best one is customzed and not off the shelf... as for the players and the vinteras, they are not good enough for the money
Find yourself a Japanese Squier Stratocaster Silver Series. It has incredibly comfortable 50s body and neck and even comes with Gotoh tuners. Genuinely vintage guitar for not that much money. Love mine, keeping it. Upgraded its pots to a custom made set and added Texas Special pickups. It's a serious musician's instrument now.
I have had an American special strat, classic Vibe strat, classic Vibe tele and an affinty tele, all were great guitars, the American one played and sounded amazing and I loved that guitar. But sadly had to sell it to pay bills. The classic vibes and affinitys are great for the money for sure. If I were you I would have sold the player tele and kept the classic Vibe strat.
"This squier is the one to buy". Proceeds to change the pickups, the bridge and the whole wiring system, making it in the ballpark price of a 2nd hand highway one or even a lonestar Fender Strat. Talk about waste of everyone's time. 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
My wife bought me a Squier Affinity Strat for Christmas last year. Perfect right out of the box. Sounds and plays great! It’s now my number one. $249 guitar. I haven’t changed a single thing about it and I’m not going to.
My favorite tuners as well! No more finger/string poke injuries🤘🏼
Squiers are so good these days. I got a dirt cheap squier sonic tele last week and the frets are perfectly level! I paid 160 euro for it 😂
i have 2 Squiers, my first guitar Affinity who's with me since 2012, with pickups changed from FLEOR (only 35 euro) and believe me that sounds on par or better thant my other Squier which is... Squier Jazzmaster require neck shims break angle is crap out of the box

New to guitar, currently have an acoustic but have a squier affinity on the list so these videos are great. Cheers.
Don’t get affinity skip to classic vibe
I have one on that finish. Used for $116 USD. I dropped some silver sky SE pick ups in that I had laying about.
Absolutely superb video. Im sorely tempted but my soldering skills are rusty to say the least, but maybe an Obsidian loaded pickguard is the way to go ? Excellent
Ringing in a little late here, but I think you should keep it, or rather, I hope you kept it. I have 3 Squiers and I luv 'em all.
Yes, very good guitar. But the 40th Ann's aren't moving. Used CV's are available for $240. Pretty amazing.
Iv got the sunburst one of these and love it! The only slight gripe is that mine weighs a tone but considering how good it feels and sounds (all stock) I'll defo be keeping it!

definitely want to see the comparison of trem blocks
I have the discontinued Squier Deluxe Strat and it's perfect. Imo all their $300+ models are really good quality
Noticeably. Easily as good as the Fender Player series
keep it man never go against your gut
you should try halfround or flatround strings because your sliding your fingers on the strings making a sound. It gets rid of it. I tried them and it works.
i think you should try the Squier Strat SE. Its well built but the pickups are meh. Others are just amazing. Would like to see you guys play it one day.
If you do sell it, you should definitely sell it to me! I'd use this as my main guitar. Looks and sounds awesome!
Do you remember the Custom Shop designed Squier series? I can't recall what year they came out but they are by far the best Squier series I've ever played. Haven't seen one for sale in around ten years but yours has very similar appointments.
Oh yeah...that's a keeper!
I have the Simon Neil Fiesta Red Classic Vibe Strat. Great guitar 😎
They have modern split top tuners that drop right in. I have them on all my Fenders
Looked inside my player plus Nashville Telle and can confirm it comes with a treble bleed so just putting that out there.
And you payed 700 too much for it. I do these mods but no way do they make a guitar worth what you paid I'm sure. 🤔
@@ranman58635 You think I bought it for a $1 part? Fuck wit.
Can someone send me a link to buy this? I can’t find it anywhere
I have American Stratocaster steel block pickups on my Standard Stratocaster (Squier) and they definitely ring out very nicely over the normal zinc. Fyi, theres no such thing as a 40th anniversary Squier Classic vibe.
Had to subscribe off of this video alone. Great content!
Thanks mate. We’ve got some really good stuff coming too, so it’ll be a great year
Metal pickguard acts like an antenna it is a magnet for RF noise.
Got a video coming soon on this. I don’t like metal pick guards
OR , buy a sonic Strat , then chuck some Tonerider pickups in which is what CV Strats use 👍
Where are you finding them these days? They seemed sold out.
Squire guitar's are okay they are fine for beginners or intermediate players to have something good to learn on. I would suggest changing the tuners and the pick ups but that's my opinion...
Spelling is fine for beginners as well , but that's my opinion .
@@Dad-Gad oh well what's more dumb? not being able to understand what someone meant or not spelling it right? Anyways have a good day.

Keep!!
Splitpost tuners are the best
i wanted one of these but i already own 7 strats so....😢
Can't find one with a white pick guard
30 minute job to replace it. that should not be the problem. but this guy just modified almost everything, so the best one is customzed and not off the shelf... as for the players and the vinteras, they are not good enough for the money
What do you mean we are ridiculous 😂
You are Ridiculous?
The best squire Stratocaster is actually a used Fender Mexican strat which you can get for the same price or less on used marketplaces

Squirrel!
Of course you have to keep it haha
Wtf I just ordered this😭😭 same spec lmfao
Rasta is sponsored by Fender, all things considered. 🤔
The player colours are broing so you buy the player plus of full american, at least theyre not as stupid as eppiphone and gibson prices
Don't sell it!!!! 😢
It sold yesterday 😭
Well, can’t sell that….
The fender tuners will fit the squier? Nah, just won’t.
Man… please tuning strings.
and too much reverb. Do we hear guitar or effects? 🤯
Naw humbuckers look ugly
On a strat
"This squier is the one to buy". Proceeds to change the pickups, the bridge and the whole wiring system, making it in the ballpark price of a 2nd hand highway one or even a lonestar Fender Strat. Talk about waste of everyone's time. 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Knock down that reverb and try again. 🙄🤦♂️
