"No one camps with an assault lantern! No one needs more than 2 types of fuel to illuminate a deer!" - Gov. Cuomo
ROFLOL!!!!!
I think that big scary one in the middle is an assault lantern.
The democrats will learnyah to embrace the darkness.
Hahahaha!!!! " Im an upstate guy and i approve this message" lol
I just walked into Harbor Freight and got a LED lantern capable of accepting assault batteries, I didn’t even get ID’d or need a license
The sound of a gas lantern and stove running always brings back fond memories
yup I sure do miss those 2 degree burns waking up in the middle of the night to piss in the woods lol fond memories indeed
I was dissed by a 10 year old yesterday while I was at the park with my kids. He asked me if I needed any whale oil for my lantern. I'm only 32 and I felt as if I were 60. Damn.
Lol that's funny my friend
Just wait man, not too long from now you"ll look at 60 as not terribly old. I'm 50, half a century old, and 60 doesn't sound old.
Your comment is funny as hell though. Made me chuckle. *:-)*
David Raful Smart boy knowing how they work. I would’ve been impressed
I'd have asked if he had any, the braincase oil from the sperm whale is the best gun oil ever.
@@Dsdcain Ya'll's just kids 🤣. Wait until you reach the 3/4 Century mark like me.
By the way, I thoroughly enjoyed watching this episode. I love the ol' coal oil lamps and Coleman Lanterns. I have a number of each.
I feel like a nerd for even clicking in this... pretty cool though
Damn it, don't get me interested in lanterns 😉
Exactly...now all the lanterns on eBay just went up by a factor of 10 or so....
I have seen some lanterns costing over $50 on EBay these days.
Too late I'm bettin'.
Saw the title and instantly thought "I could use a nice bright lantern for night fishing" lol
Go for it.
Eric: "Those crazy Germans!"
Still true to this day.
I have collected Coleman lanterns for a few years. My last count was around seventy five. Plus two and three burner stoves. Also G.I. stoves. They are getting harder and harder to buy at decent prices. I hit about half a dozen flea markets and can usually find a couple of lanterns. When you start collecting you'll buy up anything green. Then after reality sets in and you find your running out of storage space. So now I am more selective in my purchases. I have lanterns from the middle 1920's that work like the day they were purchased. An added bonus is if you can get a lantern dated on your birth month and year. That is special and you can burn it on your birthday. Most people I talk to have fond memories as a kid sleeping over at grandpa's fishing cabin and making breakfast on the Coleman stove. Or out night fishing with your dad and hearing the hiss of the lantern and the hiss of an unfortunate moth getting too close to the glass and crashing and burning. They are almost all repairable. Parts are readily available. Most lanterns I get only require a clean up and they work perfectly. Enjoy the hobby and the wonderful stories people will tell you about their memories of lanterns and stoves.
Also if possible light them outside, then when they are operating correctly, take them indoors. Just as a precaution.
P.S. I have yet to get my birth lantern. I need September 1952. I have August, October, and November. I'll run across it one day. All part of the fun of collecting!
you are so right. I grew up in the 70s and remember going camping on the upper texas coast with my parents and cooking on an old stove and fishing all night by the light of a couple of Coleman lanterns.
Old school lantern... Must be dangerous... MUST be regulated!
BAN LANTERNS!
SqwEarl * Their as heavy as ten 📦 that you might be moving. And powered by hell flames
“Do you have any hobbies?”
“Uh, I collect lanterns....”
"Alrighty then. Time to get on the short bus"
Dumb and Dumber
Loyd -“I got worms”
I do, actually! Specifically oil lamps.
I collect anything old, interesting, and/or high quality. Old stuff was built to last. New stuff is built to break so you gotta buy another. Wood, steel, cast iron, stone, high quality glass, etc. are awesome. Basically anything but plastic, but some plastic was actually high quality.
@@jeramyw It is sad to have the bayonet for a Mauser K98... but no K98 :/
This inspired me to get my grafathers old laterns out(he's gone now). I spent all day yesterday getting them to work. Thank you for this. I had a good day because of it
I learned more about lanterns today than I ever thought I would in my life. All this talk about knobs, rods, and prickers got me excited lol
Such fond memories I have, deer hunting, fishen, Boyscouts, etc, I sure miss the old days, old veteran
I have a double mantle Coleman lantern, "Special Boy Scout Edition" that I won in1969 at a scout jamboree. It's still in brand new condition.
2 years ago a buddy and i went out to his cabin for a hunting trip and a big unexpected storm came through and knocked out the power so we busted out a couple Coleman lanterns
Brings back memories of camping and deer hunts with my dad. He was a Coleman fanatic. Everything we used was Coleman.
It's amazing how men can stare away fire for minutes or hours at a time, not a word spoken.
Theres nothing wrong with additional content beyond guns. Interesting content is always interesting.
Ahh the relaxing nostalgic sound of a Coleman lamp. We used them when we went camping with the Cub scouts and boy scouts. My pa and I still bring at least one with use on our hunting trips.
The box made for the 220 was a project discussed in detail with measurements in a fur fish and game magazine in the 80's. Thanks so much for sharing. I bought a petromax 829 like your aida because of this video. Been collecting guns for 31 years . Love you guys videos.
Firearms and oil lamps; two of my favourite things.
Love my old lanterns and oil lamps. Always work as long as you have the fuel.
Coleman lanterns and camp stoves, awesome and useful collectibles that never go out of style.
Great to see this video , I collect them too and really get excited finding the older ones!!
They also put out some heat, I used to have a shack in the winter a kerosene heater and a Coleman lantern kept me pretty comfortable
Instantly reminds me of my childhood. As a Scout in the 70's I remember the old coleman flaming up like a fireball while lighting it. I never knew what would happen when we fired it up.
Great hobby, Chad.
The sound, and smell of these takes me right back to the day, hunting up in the Maine Allagash...
Absolutely wanna see more! Lanterns are a part of American history and culture for sure
I would love to see you guys testing and reviewing old military lanterns . Just about everyone a had a good ol lantern in the old days . I love my
Coleman Northstar lantern .
That was great! There are countless varieties of liquid-fueled lanterns, stoves, and heaters. Some lanterns have cooking attachments.
Old lamps and stoves, can be super inexpensive - so a cheap way to collect useful equipment. Lawn sales and Craigslist will get you some.
Many TH-cam vids and forums on collecting and fixing them, too.
I'd love to see a whole series on this subject! Thank you.
Good change of pace fellas. Enjoyed this video!!!!
Back in my early days of deer camp. Our cabin has no water or electricity and we use to play cards with 2 Coleman lanterns. I love Coleman lanterns. They remind me of good times with my dad, uncle and cousin
Nice trip back into my childhood, I grew up fishing with my dad and used all of these at one time or another. Thanks guys!
I loved it guys. I am 41 years old and still have 2 lanterns as back up to my solar. Would love move on them. God Bless.
"It's not that loud!". I guess someone doesn't always wear their ears at the range...
No he got this dangerous fully semi automatic assult lampazine through the estate sale loophole
The best survival lantern will run on anything: gas, kerosene, diesel, Chad's left over hair gel.
cannonball666,
Even the drippings from rinsing off the hair gel would fire I'm sure.
You guys just brought back some good old memories of when my parents and I went camping. That was how we would light the area and cook. I still have the lantern and stove.
Thank you very much!!
Chad, I've been collecting Colemans for many years... Some may call it a "Strange Hobby", but they are fantastic, and will last forever, with just a little maintenance... 👍👍👍
Eric's reaction to the different lanterns is the best part.
Always glad to see someone else keeping the home lights lit..literally.
My first experience of a gas lanterns was camping with my dad's "borrowed" gear from his reservist armory...helps to have been the senior Company NCO to 'test the gear for field use'...1959?
I'm not going to mention the 300 pound squad tent cots and C-rats/10-in-one goodies that made the trip...
I've had a liking for them ever since. One military model I got at for free at a swap-off/dropoff day in my community...if you have something you don't want, drop it off, maybe pick up something else.
I have many, the oldest is a Coleman single-mantle 242C from 1946. The latest is maybe 20 years old, I forget which model. One kero model a friend just gave me about a month or so ago. All are in ready-to-use state....I think I have around 9 or 10 all told.
Some few years back we had a block party (they block off the street), and the entire street was illuminated with my lanterns AND about half a dozen oil lamps.
I also have a couple single-burner Coleman stoves, four or five two-burners, and a three-burner base camp stove I got NIB with the original punch-card registration card and box etc.
When we lost power (no heat, etc.) for five days in winter, the lanterns and a stove kept us warm-ish and safe.
Boy Scouts in the learly 70s , Coleman lanterns were a way of life in the Maine woods , still to this day . Thanks Chad , great memories returned with this . Volume 2 to follow .
Hell yeah those are cool. The paint, glass, metal, fuel and warm light they make, nostalgia ect, a hobby id be into if I didn’t have too many already
My personal favorite happens to be the UCO candle lantern. I use it for camping and I also love the smell of beeswax.
Fun video! I have a couple of Coleman lanterns also, and a gas stove too! My dad had it in the back of his Ford truck and for Deer hunting we would go to the truck for dinner, my mom would make sandwiches and heat up a kettle of soup!!! Great memories!!!!
I think Chad likes to be referred to as a "lantern enthusiast".
Me: last video before sleep
Me at 3am : ʟᴀɴᴛᴇʀɴ ᴄᴏʟʟᴇᴄᴛɪᴏɴ
Gotta admit, I did enjoy this video more that I thought I would... Thanks for sharing
I've always had a passion for the old lanterns rather it be Coleman.
i have to say thanks to you guys for this. A few months back before my grandfather passed i got a lantern from him. at the time I had so much going on that i just stuck it on a shelf in my barn. Went straight home after watching this and noticed its a 228D from 1948. So excited now to get it back running. Its in great shape just needs a tune up im sure. Thanks Again!
Hope you got it running! Just got my long departed uncles 60s milspec running from the two he left in my parents garage. So loud!
Oh, and I totally understand your enthusiasm here, Chad.
Good going, friend!
I got into lanterns before firearms, collected them, and rebuilt them. They were cheaper to collect than firearms, so it was one and still is a hobby of mine. It probably helped directed me towards collecting firearms when I got older, gave me appreciation for variety and age.
A very nice departure from the usual topics (which also love) but thank you for the variety.
I remember my dad using these whenever we went camping when I was a kid. Still love those things.
Thank you, guys. Very much appreciated! I've restored two Aladdin mantle lamps that used to light my dad's childhood home, and boy are they cool! The smell, bright light, nostalgia. And as you said, "just in case".
Well, they are actually not *literally* cool. In additrion to light, they produce extreme amounts of heat as well, so you can keep an entire room lit and warm with one of those!
Oil the pump to keep from drying out and get a seal
Me: Hi I’d like to order a lantern in multicam.
Coleman: huh???
Lol
The prices on these lanterns just went up 50% on ebay thanks to this video...
Earliest one my dad has is 1920's he's selling. He said it takes a special type of valve to get the gas in.
New channel. FORGOTTEN LATERNS. present and disassemble old laterns
Joshua 333 is this going to be the rising of lantern Jesus?
This Video was probably still demonetized due to guns in the background...
I’m a lantern junkie too! I don’t have a German lantern, but I know when the Coleman lanterns have issues pumping like that it’s because the leather gasket has dried up a bit. If you remove it and let it soak in some grease that brings it back pretty effectively. Also adding oil to the oiler hole can help keep it lubed and holding pressure.
Super awesome video! I love old lanterns and camp stoves. Used some this past weekend. Love seeing the other hobbies that gun people have.
Never thought I was a collector, but I have 8 of them. Because I like them. Garage Sales mostly like about 5 bucks or so.
I've been collecting lanterns for about 30 years now and I use them too, they're great for night fishing.
Youve blown me away with your knowledge and comforted me cause i own a dozen or more lanterns and 50+- oil lamps.
This video definitely brings back memories. Nice change of pace guys. Awesome video 👍
Good video. It brings back so many memories of camping in the '80's with my friends, out in the woods, cooking at night under the light of a couple Coleman lanterns, after a full day of hiking or canoeing. Good times.
I'm going to have to build a box like that for my lanterns now.
woodcrafter76 that box was cool.
One of my favorite favorite videos of you guys in a while. So much fun!
I grew up in Wichita, Ks, home of the Coleman Company and own a Dual Mantle 220 that I've had since the 60's. Many a good use out of it during Boy Scout years and still functional today !!!
Epic vid. Love when you guys show off random stuff peripheral to the guns. I already have the guns I want so it’s nice to get a break from reviews and such.
I have my great grandparents Coleman lantern and Colman stove. The lantern I believe is a 220 from 1955. Just fired it up. (With a broken mantel) lit up like a dream.. cool video.
Finally some appreciation for lanterns
I got 2 Coleman lanterns and 2 Coleman stoves I'll never part with. They are beyond handy and great to have in the event of an emergency. Also a neat produst that you can buy on Amazon is a propane converter tube for your older Coleman stoves. It's $20 and I love it, and it's even more efficient since I don't have the weight of the white fuel tank that comes with it.
This lantern video is one of the most entertaining ever.
LOL Chad's face when you put him on the spot about his collection!!! 00:18
What a great video and thanks for taking the time to light them up.
Brought back to life two 220 lanterns a few years ago. Former homeowner left two 220 lanterns in rough shape. Love that parts are still available.
I've been getting my lanterns gone through after buying a Coleman 288 at a garage sale a few weeks ago for $5. I've also been thinking of building boxes for my lanterns, 2 cans of fuel each, and spare parts. I've got the 288, a 295 Dual fuel, and a 285 dual fuel. We used them when I was a kid when we went fishing!
Pretty cool video, definitely reminded me of camping trips with the family when I was a kid. I like boxes of old ammo, doesn't matter what kind as long as it's old and the box is cool.
I like the shirt Chad is wearing. Thanks for another great video. You boys are what America is all about. Always ready, and always faithful. God bless !
I love old Coleman, I have a couple stoves and lanterns, I'm fascinated by the process of using them. I'm also starting to collect kerosene heaters, they are a nice backup plan for heating the house or using out in the shed.
Good idea having a storage box. I'm in the process of getting my old stove and lantern running. When I got them out of the shed my stove was a mouse condo and my lanterns internals had mud dobber nests jamming up my air tube from the tank. Getting them going though. For right now I'm gonna keep my lantern in a 5 gallon pickle bucket!
This is excellent. From a guy who grew up on a farm needing to use lanterns, this is right up my alley.
I went to check out my two vintage lanterns to see if they still worked. Realized I'd lent them to my son on a permanent basis. To my surprise. So I went on ebay and picked up a 228f for $35 bucks pluss shipping Due to my lack of experiance in working on them I had to order one part. It works great. Ordered a 220h for $35 including shipping. Should arrive soon. Got out my two coleman stoves. An 82 and 90 year models. Both lit up with 15 year old fuel. I still had that old can of coleman fuel. Filled up my lantern and it lit as well. Not as willingly as with fresh fuel but lit. Proves to be great prepper stuff. Will try to send pictures.
love this video, i went to the barn and asked dad to learn me up on them ill be restoring his 71 200a for our trip to santee this coming fall, thanks gents keep the vintage sportsman collectables coming
I have been collecting Sears lanterns made by Coleman from the sixties, they have larger top hats than regular Coleman
I enjoyed this way more than I expected...keep 'em coming!
Ha, he’s gotta green lantern
Love the lanterns.... reminds me of fishing with my dad at night for catfish in the summer..... great memories and great times..... let’s see more lanterns in future videos....
I have been using Colman’s lantern and stove for 50 years for camping, power outages , black outs . there are the best hard to bet. Last year Walmart stopped selling gasoline stove and lantern . I picked up two dual power lanterns for 15 dollars each. Colman also made brass back pack stove for GI ‘s in WWII $$$ For them
We have to see more videos! Chad, you got me interested in these. I’ve already bought one. Haha working on a second. We need more videos. Maybe even a rebuild video on one. Do a “light up” video where you briefly explain them all and light them all. I wish you would have lit a white gas civilian model after the military one. Would’ve shown people the big contrast between them. Also you can try oiling the leather on that pump to help restore it.
Nice. I love old Coleman stoves and lanterns. Got a 1969 252a that I believe is one of the coolest lanterns Coleman ever made. Also have a '79 228J with the big hat, even have a little 226 backpackers lantern that I bought new back in the early 90's and brought with me on trips in the Trinity Alps. I even like some of the newer propane Colemans for their quietness and convenience. Great vid, thanks for sharing!
Lemme tell you guys, every memorial day me and my buddies go on a 3 day 2 night canoe trip and lanterns are a MUST HAVE! We have to pack light to make sure we don't sink the canoes with all the beer in the coolers. Sometimes old tech is the best tech! This is a perfect example of that.
I've tracked many a blood trails using a Coleman lantern with aluminum foil on half the glide to keep the light out of my eyes. Works better than a flashlight!
Coleman is definitely the John Deere or Harley Davidson of Lanterns.
This is perfect. I just started collecting lanterns!
All kinds?
Enjoy retaining your virginity forever!
Excellent. That was very enjoyable and I'd like to see more of it. Made me realize that I need a good lantern in my collection.
I remember using them as both light and heat while ice fishing as a kid.
One lantern would heat the entire ice shanty to the point where it would be sub freezing outside, howling wind but we were inside in T-shirt’s and jeans comfy.
The lantern would attract fish through the ice.
I’ve seen ones with a metal box up top to heat/cook/boil with. That’d be extremely valuable in a grid down or boon docking.
Awesome! I've been collecting coleman lanterns for years....one of my favorite collections. Nothing is better than pouring fuel into a lantern from the 40s that hasnt run in decades and firing it up to produce significant light output. Keep up the lantern content lol
I have a 220 from around 53’ at least all the info I could find on it. Just needed a new gas generator, and the other parts cleaned out, re-oiled the leather cup, some new fuel and mantles, and boom ran just fine got a single burner Coleman stove too with it for $20 at a yard sale. Got a two burner old Coleman stove at another yard sale for $20, just need cleaned up and it works fine.
