Mauritius underwater life is for sure one of the most beautiful of the Indian Ocean.
There are many dive sites both north and west and east of this wonderful island.
Together with the Red Sea, this clearly makes it one of the most suitable countries for beginners in scuba diving.
The magnificent turquoise blue water of Mauritius offers an incredible diversity of underwater species: no less than 430 species of pelagic fish and 200 different species of coral, incredible!
The possibility of exploring the many wrecks around the island at different depths depending on the level of diving, adds to the biodiversity of the seabed.
An extraordinary marine richness to which are added many wrecks which often delight divers, the most experienced as well as beginners.
The most famous dive sites of Mauritius Island are : Djabeda Wreck (close to Coin de Mire), Shark Arena (count almost 2 hours by boat to get there), Confetti Bay, Merville Patches, Shark Cathedral (near Flic-en-Flac), Carpenter, The Wall, Emily and Waterlily, Stella Maru... On these spots you will discover a myriad of exotic creatures and a well-preserved coral reef. Sharks, dolphins, tuna fish, marlin, trevallies, leaf fish, turtle, angelfish, butterfly fish, parrotfish, nudibranchs, lobsters, sperm whale (only in snorkeling), moray eels, clown fish, big barracuda, yellow snapper shoal, trumpet fish to name just a few colorful species that you can encounter in the island's lagoons and blue.
A message to wreck diving lovers : Mauritius is for you ! It's obviously one of the best dive destinations for wreck diving : soft corals everywhere, a wealth of underwater life, huge anchor, dramatic mood and atmosphere, gorgeous lights : it feels like being in a movie looking for treasure buried at the bottom of the ocean or an archaeological exploration.
As Mark Twain wrote "Mauritius was made first, and then heaven; and that heaven was copied after Mauritius." and we agree with this :)
It was for us a first approach to what the underwater world of the destination can offer, we did not have time to do some of the most prestigious dive sites: we will certainly come back to see more.
Where is the best scuba diving in the world ? We still don't know,...so let's keep diving and filming :)
New adventures are coming very soon...
