The Konami Solo manual states that bar was intended for both balance and performance play, and various Konami employees have stated that many songs were made for play with bar. Game Shark and Cheat Engine aren't the same as using a tool that's built in for use with the game.
...forward with plans to FINALLY take the record. I had originally applied to break the record a smidge over two years ago, but then I got involved with MMG9 (biggest tournie I've held so far) which took up ALL of my free time with getting all the sponsors for it and whatnot. The whole thing kind of left the record in the dust, and even if it hadn't it still would have been awhile before I could have hashed out the issues with the record attempt stipulations.
Konami Solo manual -- ステージバーは転倒防止等の役割もある。パフォーマンスプレイの際にはこのバーも活用されることがある Essentially, bar is there both to help with balance and performance play (or what we call Perfect Attack).
@RacingGeeks2010 Just saw that, pretty cool! If you want something maxed out, you'd have to play the songs that are Yellow (Exclusive) or Green (Exclusive Unlocks) with the most steps (on Basic). Blue songs don't give any AAA bonus. I'd expect Para-Eternal and probably a long version to be a part of that equation. When I get some time, I can figure out which ones if you want (I'd have to play through the songlist on Basic to tell). Still quite impressive, anything on 5th is a little tricky.
@djsterf It's the rule about official witnesses. You have to have at least two witnesses watching at all times, and these witnesses can not know you and they're supposed to be people "of importance" ; I remember the example list they gave for that included "politicians and managers of local game stores". Furthermore, each witness has to do a shift of at least 4 hours. So, according to the rules, I have to find a bunch of strangers "of importance" and convince them to watch me step on arrows
@TheHeadhunter Drew Gamble went over 37 hrs, but I don't think he got it verified by any means. The TG/Guinness Gamers record may very well still be just over 13 hours. Let me check 1 sec...haha yeah, 13 hrs, 9 min, 40 sec. ummm
Great job! I've been hoping to take the endurance record for awhile now. I've already filled out the paperwork, it's just that the BS requirements for endurance based records are really preventing me from actually breaking it.
@djsterf ...for at least 4 hours. The other option, of course, is to have guinness officials flown out at my expense. and keep in mind, I would have to fly out a bunch of them to cover shifts, making it unreasonably expensive. it would be hard enough flying out one. however, I do intend on pursuing this record in the near future; I've moved to Rochester where I'm currently studying Game Design and Development, and it just hit me the other day: what better people to ask to be witnesses than
lol I've AAAed all of these songs no bar multiple times, it's not an issue of me not having stamina. I have many first place trophies and school records from various races if you think I'm a fat slob, lol.
Absolutely Stunning. On the bonus though, I had always had this written down for years: "There are two bonuses: a Combo Bonus and a Dance Level Bonus (note: the dance level bonus is only received one time per song. Repeated plays of a song do not earn the dance level bonus, nor do songs from previous mixes (songs written in blue letters))." ... maybe I should write it in a different color or bigger font...
Great job, 5th mix is my favorite and the version I played on growing up, until they replaced it with Extreme, then I moved onto ITG. Good stuff mate. :)
@archmiel Thanks; haha and it's absolutely stunning that I totally missed that line, especially the part saying that songs from older mixes don't give bonuses. Yep, that is indeed correct *edits description*
@TheHeadhunter Sounds difficult to try, but yeah, do it up really big and make it a fun event if you can go for it. Golly, that's a long time to play in a row, though. :-z eek
Damm! someday I want to dance like that, like you, but do not get nor to the knees, I can hardly with 4 steps, you are mmmmm Marvelous!..my respect for you ___Zenyk01___
game design professors? There's already a huge gaming spirit here at RIT and it could be such an awesome event to throw together on campus, maybe have like a BBQ and stuff while all the professors are there. i'm still hashing out ideas but it's definitely going to happen at some point. I intend to purchase the machine I've been operating in my family's arcade for years and move it on campus (I've already discussed it with Residence Life) and at that point I can really start training and moving
Is the record still at ~14 hours, or did someone else bother to take it? I honestly don't think it's that long of a time to play at all, I used to practice almost 10 hours a day around once a week or so. The challenge isn't going to be beating the record, it's going to be going on for a long enough time to discourage anybody else from trying to take it hehe.
loved this, and envy you. seems like 5th mix was harder then 7th mix, lol first 2 songs are on 7th then they have an easier version of both afronova and B4U. Love DDR but im no where near AAA i can AA matsuri on a really good day, but ya... lol
I'm laughing at you because you called someone out very rudely for using the bar which is a lack of respect for the player. When you talk to someone like that how do you expect me to take you seriously about being sponsored? I generally associate sponsored people to be humble about the game.
I disagree sterf. A crutch is a crutch is a crutch any way you try to sell it. Bottom line is its an easy mode just like the "built in" cheats for GTA. Also I'd like to point out that there's a difference between sustaining balance and shifting 45% of your body weight on to your arms to relieve your legs from having to cope with it during a song.
djsterf its ed from marley station mall. im so sorry i havent msged u in a while and i would love to talk some more. i hope you get this. god bless you.
Its not as trivial as you make it out to be. In fact its quite the opposite considering if the bar wasn't there this video wouldn't exist. A crack in the screen that might be somewhat distracting is trivial. A game changing super bar that enables players lacking stamina to do the song in the first place is far from trivial.
Sorry Sterf, I can't respect you any more. You're going to have to start those 1000+ AAAs over from scratch without bar. Get those then MAYBE I'll acknowledge your existence as something that takes up space...but probably not.
No offense to the original poster because you have skill reading the music. The problem is I'm surprised you haven't gotten a court summons for raping that bar as hard as you did. This was such a XXX bar rape it was scary. -A former sponsored DDR player.
Sorry it took 11 months to respond I'm pretty bad with keeping up on my youtube posts. I was sponsored by Cobalt Flux and a company called C'motion which specialized in bringing custom DDR cabinates to high schools around the midwest. Sorry again to come off as an ass its just raping the bar like that probably makes the game 2x as easy. Hard to respect people who handicap themselves that severely.
Laugh all you want. One of us got paid to play one of our favorite video games. My set of cobalt flux pads sitting next to my computer for being sponsored by them says more than you laughing at me for it. I'm not claiming the pay was excellent... but it was good enough for doing something I loved. Then college happened.... v_v
very impressive.
admirable!
WOW!!!!! :-) the scores and the nostalgic 5th mix. we used to have one here in israel before it was upgraded to megamix. THIS SCORE IS INSANE!!!!

4x 9 footers AAA'd on 1x speed back to back?
you crayzehh man ;)
dude you are such a legend
Awesome good job DJ Sterf for this AAA Set on DDR 5th mix^^ you are a beast at DDR definitively

@Overgate Thanks, I think people who have played 5th mix would understand how hard this was.
@Oggvaldo Thanx much!
very very very cool!!!
much respect!

@Overgate haha your comments are always so epic; thank you, what have you been up to?
@PsychoDon904 Thanx!
@StriderAX401 Ballin'
Nice job man. 5th mix was special to me because it's the one I started out on.

@tehcarnagex Well, it wouldn't be that bad on things that are synched right. 5th is a little tougher for consistency.
@gamert101 Thanks :)
Great job! I've been hoping to take the endurance record for awhile now. I've already filled out the paperwork, it's just that the BS requirements for endurance based records are really preventing me from actually breaking it.
This was awesome to watch! God bless you on your future, my friend! =)
@XxMaNtiSaixX iknorite, cool, with whom were you sponsored?
@TheHeadhunter I'd keel over, haha. Which rules are unreasonable for endurance (I'm not sure what they are)?
@2kstyle Thumbs up
@yagatza Thnx :)

@ssandman007 dat tru
IMHO, 5th mix is the best one out of all the versions out there. And that's when DDR was at its peak.
GJ Sterf, this is an amazing set
@tapuzronko Yep, maxed out score, and TG verified :)
@silverisilvia Which one?
@ipfreely122 Nah, that cat uses that rail. He's a rail rider.
lol I've AAAed all of these songs no bar multiple times, it's not an issue of me not having stamina. I have many first place trophies and school records from various races if you think I'm a fat slob, lol.
Most of them I've gotten without the bar, and most several times, but yeah, since I touched the bar it counts as -1 AAA.

It's because its done on DDR 5TH Mix and without speedmods that is really impressive^^
haha thanks :)
o ok
Thx
Who else read the description? Jesus is in there.

@Zetorux Not as good as you since you AAAAed Secret Rendezvous in my FACE at that tournament years ago.
@DDRfreak457 Monitor lag?
@dcskater012345 Thnx Eric, haha

Sup man, send me a message
DJ Sterf i need to get my hands on a 5th mix machine... seems beyond rare these days
So yall keep hearin' about this djsterf dood, he's suppose to be good.
Welcome back and great job.
@JohnDesire Build one out of styrofoam!
"oh but you did not do it no bar"
he did this no bar WHILE JUGGLING though: th-cam.com/video/VqombxrR3zQ/w-d-xo.html
He just pasted you the part in Konami manual that included "for performance play" so case closed for me.
You and I disagree then...over an extremely trivial issue.

Nice. You should change your name to DJPsychola.
Hahaha, sponsored.
Explain to me why the bar was put there and how it is cheating.
loved this, and envy you. seems like 5th mix was harder then 7th mix, lol first 2 songs are on 7th then they have an easier version of both afronova and B4U. Love DDR but im no where near AAA i can AA matsuri on a really good day, but ya... lol
Nope, sorry, that kid just ended your whole career.
im about to buy a metal ddr pad and wonder what you know about them and which one you would recomendd

bueno es mejor que la pump es que la verdad hay que probar cosas nuevas y esto me gusto
It is a rule to play at 1x speed? Or does this mix not have options?
5th Mix has no speed mods
