I recently "inherited" a friend's late husband's '70's Yamaki Deluxe. I had no idea how it was about to impact my life, but like you mention, this one is dried out and the fundamental is the dominant thing that stands out! I am so surprised and delighted by this windfall/gift and it has me playing "more"/inspired more.
I once defended the drummer in a band I was part of in Albq NM, by saying "he plays the song, everytime", which led me to recognize your philosophy - think like a musician or better yet, think like an arranger/orchestrator!
When I heard "A Few Small Repairs", I was convinced you loved the same albums that I did! ......Especially, Buffalo Springfield's Again. Wichita Skyline's Bass VI solo is the penultimate one IMO! And the pedal steel on I want it back! Fabulous stuff!

Good stuff. Good advice. Sometimes it's hard for me to justify finally getting recording stuff together in my 60's. But it's gotta be about doing that which keeps me sane. Beautiful music my friend

John Fahey, Nick Drake, Paul Simon, John Renbourn, Richard Thompson, Joni Mitchell, Jackson Browne, and many more, but he's still unique.

It's true what John says about guitars and magnets. Once I was wearing a tin foil hat to heighten my mania when my guitar opened the door to my bus and slammed me on the head and I had to go to a machine shop to get it off. Wish I knew John then but he would have done the same thing to me as the magnet did I'm sure
