Man i miss them days!! All the guys I grew up watching racing with have passed on but seeing Bodine was great nostalgia for me!! Thanks for this amazing interview!
My family and friends went to 5-6 races a year during the mid 70's through mid 90's. To me, those were the days. It was always a big party Saturday night and a great race on Sunday. Geoff Bodine was a great driver. Thanks for the memories of that time in racing.✌️
Geoff was a driver that was a threat to win at any track , when he had a good (decent) car under him , now that I'am old , and reaIize his talents , I have alot of respect for him. 👍
You would think if you are on the nascar 50 and 75 greatest drivers list and have 18 cup wins and a daytona 500 your name would come up more for hall of fame consideration.
I 100% agree with that why Geoff Bodine is not in the Nascar Hall of Fame is outright shameful. Guinness Book of World Records most wins in a single season driving modifieds 60 wins. Giving Rick Hendrick his first NASCAR win. Surviving clearly the most horrific non-fatal wreck in the history of Daytona Speedway in that truck race and let not anyone forget donating his own time and money to completely redesign the American bobsleds so that we could win our first gold medal in Vancouver in 2010. A completely unselfish human being except maybe on the racetrack and clearly a victim of NASCAR's bias against Northeastern drivers. They have elected the late Richie Evans and the late Mike Stefanick as modified drivers into the hall of fame but not BODINE😡😡. Bodine in his heyday could beat any modified driver anywhere in the United States as well as being a threat to win NASCAR on any given weekend. NASCAR clearly has a bias for whatever reasons against Bodine and it is outright shameful!!!
Remember how Felix Sabates thought Dale got so much preferential treatment that he painted Kyle Petty's car black and silver for the Dover race one year. 🤣 I didn't even realize that story in the movie was about Dale and Geoff, pretty funny.
Kenny i went out of my way to meet ya twice and you are a genuine man!!! We need a lot more Kenny Wallace's in the world but we'll have to make do with one. Lol
Got to watch Bodine win at Pocono. Camped out in the infield all weekend. Harry Gant actually had a great car that day as well. Kyle Petty ran out of gas during qualifying. They pushed his car through the infield. He was on the hood waving at all the fans. I still go to races cuz racing is in me. I just wish it was like it used to be.
Bobby Allison said for years the same thing about Richard Petty for years, he had a major advantage over his competition because that's what NASCAR wanted..
There were a handful of drivers who would go toe to toe with Earnhardt: Bodine, Rudd & Richmond come to mind. However, the best one I ever saw from Mark Martin of all people. It was Michigan in about 1992 or 1993. Earnhardt wrecked Martin in practice and Martin was livid because it wadded up his car and he had to start in the back. The green flag dropped and Earnhardt went to the lead but the cameras were watching Martin because he was incredibly fast and driving like an absolute madman. Martin gets to second place, then radios in "Jack? I might be bringing you back a steering wheel." He closes on Earnhardt and Big E shoots up the racetrack to let Mark go on the inside. Childress radioed Earnhardt something to the effect of "Don't piss him off again." Mark dominated but didn't win. If I remember correctly, it came down to fuel mileage and Darrell Waltrip scored his very last Cup win in the Western Auto Chevy.
I own 2 Plymouth SuperBirds from almost new and a Monte Carlo SS AeroCoupe so I know what these cars look like in person and how they are to work on and maintain. The Monte AeroCoupe IMO was the most beautiful looking NASCAR spec race car in history. And they were really fast at Daytona and Talladega. Jaws still holds the all-time Chevrolet qualifying speed for NASCAR at 210MPH and change...in an AeroCoupe.
I'm not a fan of either driver but there must be a little truth to what Bodine was saying. There were a lot of people back in the day that used to "tongue in cheek" say that the 3 car was owned by Nascar. That may not be true, but no one can deny that Earnhardt got preferential treatment. Remember when Earnhardt was black flagged for loose or missing lug nuts? He came into the pits, all were present and Nascar kept the caution out and allowed Earnhardt his position back on the track. That was unprecedented. Anybody else was given the old "too bad, were were wrong, go to the back of the pack". Kenny, I know you remember this!
Preferential treatment by NASCAR? Sr was flagged for like 5 laps at Charlotte once back in about 1988 after contact with Geoff Bodine, you call that preferential treatment? Or how about the time they flagged him twice in the 1993 Coca-Cola 600 but he came back & STILL won that race. Let's not even mention the 95 Bristol Night Race when he was again black flagged twice & come back to run second to Labonte, damn near won...
@@RichieRichpobutproud well, the commentators were saying it wasn't right to bring a driver in for no lugs and then find out his lugs were fine and not give him his spot back. Nascar heard this and knew if they didn't they wouldn't hear the end of it, but they didn't give him his 5th place spot, they let him start 7th!
@@vinewood8295 yes, even Earnhardt could get away with only so much. Geez, some of you guys treat Earnhardt like he was a god. Great race car driver? Yes. One of the best ever? Yes. Got away with crap way more than he was punished for? Yep.
