    I'm a top sheet person, bottom, top & comforter.
    I find it easier to wash a set of sheets vs washing and hassling with a duvet cover that often.

    It’s lovely! I’d like to suggest sewing ties in the corners, and to the corners of the duvet to keep everything secure in there. If you’re ever inspired to show how to turn a flat sheet into a fitted sheet, I’d be really interested in that video.

    Great up cycle idea. Using just a duvet and bottom sheet is quite common in Europe so you are not alone. I hate having to put on the duvet cover so I prefer to use a top sheet-but I’m sure many people will benefit from this idea. 😊

      If you are used to it and know how, it's not hard.
      Just slip into the inside out sheets with your arms, reaching the two outer corners with your hands.
      Now grab the two narrow corners of the duvet/blanket with those hands and lift the whole thing up. The cover will fall down around the blanket.
      Just adjust the corners a little bit and you're good to go.
      😊
      Greetings from Europe.

    I don't use a top sheet either, Christina. When my daughter got her first double bed she wanted a black doona cover, we couldn't find one, so her father sewed her one using two flat sheets, instead of buttons he used velcro. It turned out really good!!

    As an old and getting rather infirm person I prefer my top sheet over removing and inserting duvet covers, it's just too awkward and tiring to bother with, but I like that you were able to make good use of yours.
    Your instructions were very clear and easy to follow and it's always good to know how to do useful things.
    I made extra pillow cases out of spare flat sheets since we have four pillows on our bed, and using the extra wide hem at the open ends saved time and made them look professional.
    I do french seams too - hate frayed edges! Thanks for the how-to! 😊👍

    I love this idea so much and it will def help me making my bed daily as the pieces are attached to each other, rather than fiddling with all the separate pieces! Thanks for the inspiration

    I’ve made duvet covers this way too and used the extra fabric trimmed to make both sheets the same size into ribbons for securing the duvet corners, or for securing the bottom opening in a less formal look. it’s also great extra material for making soft cord for the waist of drawstring pants etc. Nice work!

    Put ribbons in the interior corners too. That way you can tie the duvet to the comforter corners so it won’t shift 👍

    I always use a top sheet. I experimented with Duvets but found it too much trouble getting the insert in properly. Good idea though

    • @donnabacon4681
      @donnabacon4681 ปีที่แล้ว

      Couldn't you roll up the insert burrito style and then place inside the cover? It "should" unroll - maybe with a little prompting - would that work? You might find a TH-cam vid on a better way.
      Good Luck!

    You can also create the outlet/passage with press buttons or also by letting open only a third of the sidelegth. That's the easiest and how for example Ikea does it.

    I have a comforter with a beautiful plaid on one side, and pesky Sherpa on the other. I’m gonna make a duvet cover out of the plaid side and a top sheet. Now I’ll have an all year duvet and no matting! Thank you so much

    I have been doing this for years only I bought two flat sheets. It is not as easy to buy only flat sheets now. Just a suggestion, I use a pin at both ends of the button hole so I don't slip and cut the buttonhole to large.

    How do you stop the duvet from moving around inside the sheet? My pet peeve! I never use them cuz of that reason alone

    • @virginiaomalley
      @virginiaomalley 7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Turn the duvet cover inside out and sew a skinny ribbon in all four corners, and do the same with the insert and tie together. Or, for the easy way, use safety pins in the corners of the duvet cover and pin to the duvet.

    Where did you get your duvet insert? Ours is a king size duvet, but only covers the top of our bed, it doesn't even go out to the edges 😅 so we play tug if war all night. I've been looking for an oversized insert.

    "Useless" top sheets?? Naah. Not in our house! We use bottom sheet, top sheet, quilt, and in the winter we add a blanket.
    Sometimes, in the summer, we just sleep with the sheets, even with air conditioning. Duvets are too hot then, for my husband and myself. Our daughters love their comforters, though. I personally prefer to sleep on the cooler side. I can always add a throw if I need to. Sometimes, a light quilt and top sheet are enough on a spring night when the windows are open.😊

    Have I found my community? The flat sheet is stupid. It's just an extra unnecessary layer to get wrapped up in while I sleep. But why would I not want two luxurious duvets to make my bed look and feel luxurious. 😂

    If you have to purchase two flat sheets to make a duvet cover, why not just buy a duvet cover? I no longer use flat sheets either, but I have one I love that I want to turn into a duvet cover.

    Rediculous, you can by fitted sheet and pillow case combination, you don't have to buy sheet set. Save the money and get what you need. If you have top sheets you are not using and want to make a cover go for your life, but the result is not as good as purpose made, l prefer designs on my cover.
