    Response as line staff means staying situationally aware and playing your part. As a supervisor it means directing the response while keeping in mind all the moving parts, all the potential threats, all the necessary equipment, personnel and evolving circumstances.

      I was working in a unit control
      and saw an inmate talking to the f C/O and down the hall, and in the direction the inmate was looking there was a fight going on (diversion?). Lock in a sock were the weapons used ect...
      The cop never turned his head to his 6 to even see the fight.
      Probably made it into a training video somewhere?
      I don't know how he didn't hear anything such as a fight going on behind him?
      Ohh and the intercom didn't work in the hallway so I couldn't tell the inmates to stop fighting over the intercom, and the other C/O liked to surf channels so I couldn't get a radio code to him until the fight was completely over.
      Lucky they didn't kill each other. 😕👍
      But then again he was the only floor Officer in the unit so I wouldn't expect much besides verbal comands anyway?

    Another must watch video from Tier Talk. Much needed training as always. No response necessary. You guys thoroughly covered everything.

    One thing I would like to add is that when we formalized response training we went from ridiculous dog piles of staff, which got all kinds of people hurt, to far few injuries among both inmates and staff. The use of pepper spray helped a lot too.

    Use the tools your department gives you and wait for back up, automatically going hands on might get you a little respect but it leads to injuries which leads to excess paperwork, medical expenses, and mandatory overtime for the officers filling your post.

      Great advice and great way to break it down. All the way to the mandatory overtime. Lol

    Every officer should have a less than lethal option. Or multiple less than lethal options to stop fighting?
    Still many places across the country without.
    I think in my state they went to Tasers for state C/Os?
    Some places including the private one I worked at they gave us just enough training to get our ass kicked no options.

    • @russhamilton3800
      @russhamilton3800 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yeah more options is better as it equates to more and better solutions. OC is probably the most versatile tool but ultimately it's slows things down whereas batons stop things. Tasers too but they have a host of application problems as in you got one shot and a high degree of likelihood of failure. This thing though where few if any tools are provided is terrible.

      @@jason4453 well on CDCR we had lots of stuff. Minimum load out was at least 1 mk9OC, radio, vest, cuffs, expandable baton, plus a couple of Chem grenades. Quick access to 40mm etc... Often had lethal overhead too. So yeah we did have that.

  • @TheMatthew72

    How can I get the O. C. and Taser training when it's not being offered. I need to get qualified to use those weapons. I have keys and cuffs. If the need to use it comes and I use it, the deputies who told me to go ahead and use it sure aren't going to damage their careers to back me up.

    • @TierTalk
      @TierTalk  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The agency you work for would have to provide it to you. Can you write a request to the training dept or your direct supervisor

    • @russhamilton3800
      @russhamilton3800 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You department should be on that day one. I don't know why they wouldn't be. That lackadaisical attitude on their part is not a good sign.
