    I have had edema ever since I developed a nasty infection in my right upper thigh in 2015. Doctors had to remove a huge chunk of my thigh and remove some lymph nodes to save my leg but it has caused my left lower leg to swell off and on ever since. Moving around and wearing compression socks helps bring the swelling down.

    Thank you. Four years under a hospital eye specialist failed to explain my swollen eyelids which blister similar to bubble wrapping. With the insight I have gained from your excellent video I intend to approach my doctor to ask whether I have macular diabetic retinothapy. I will discontinue my use of HRT but will have to stay on Prednisolone (steroids at 12 mgs) until I can gradually wean myself off them. My ankles, feet and lower legs are puffy and swollen and make me less inclined to walk - but walk I must. Thanks again for the hope of an improvement to my life.

    • @dnllmaurer1
      @dnllmaurer1 2 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      Being sedentary encourages more fluid build up so walking does help. Movement stimulates tissues & promotes circulation. It reduces swelling to relieve pressure & pain. Also raise your feet above your heart while sleeping so gravity can have a reverse effect & drain fluid from the limbs. Anther tip he didn't mention is to soak 10 -15 minutes in a warm bath with 1 or 2 cups of Epsom Salt. Your body can absorb magnesium through the skin so a bath is best but if that's too difficult, soak your feet in a basin. For best results soak before bed & lightly massage feet & ankles or walk a few minutes. Hope this helps you!

    I had SWELLING edema for long time, over a decade, maybe longer. Tried many treatments including those tormenting pressure socks which just transfer swelling. Doctors did know cause. For a recent infection, was prescribed doxycycline. Edema went away quickly. Edema has never returned. You would be amiss not to try it if you don't know cause of your swelling.

    • @MedicalCentric
      @MedicalCentric  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @kevinkall8547 It’s interesting that doxycycline, an antibiotic, helped resolve your long-standing edema. This suggests that there might have been an underlying infection or inflammation contributing to the swelling. Sometimes, chronic edema can be linked to hidden infections or inflammatory conditions, and antibiotics can address these issues if they're part of the problem. However, it's crucial to consult with a healthcare provider before starting or stopping any medication, as they can provide a diagnosis and ensure that the treatment is appropriate for your specific condition.

    I had that in marine corps boot camp. When I first went in my leg swelled up, and because I was running on that it caused me to break my tibia and stay in bed rest for 3 months and another 3 in physical therapy. The doctors kept telling me it was vasculitis, but I only came to find out it was edema when I pushed through it all and for the grace of god my leg didn’t swell up anymore.😅

    Omg i was sitting on the toilet with my pants around my ankles. I noticed my legs looked a little tight. I poked and they pitted! I freaked out! Do I have edema!? Do I have heart disease!!? Omg my diet and lack of exercise has finally caught up! I did get a second degree sun burn from the beach last week, on my legs. I also did a little jog for the first time in months, tonight.
    I sit a LOT at work for long periods. Then i sit in traffic before and after work. Then i sit at home.
    I pray to god i don’t have serious health condition. I’m not short of breath unless I exercise. I don’t have to prop myself up during sleep.
    Ugh i just hope it’s the sunburn, combined with todays jog. And i definitely will be tasking walk breaks at work from now on. This FREAKED ME OUT.

      Yeah. I imagine this would help a lot as well, seeing as Carbs are the reason for Fluid build up in the first place. I just did a 12 Day Water Fast and had almost 1 tsp of salt a day and didn’t experience anything. Now that I’m off since about 5 days ago, I’m getting Edema in my legs, the Main change of course was Carbs but admittedly I also have been overdoing my sodium intake as well, but again I feel like it’s mainly the Carbs here because there was also this one day where I took like 3 tsp of salt by accident during my water fast and my body reacted almost immediately and appropriately by making me rush to the bathroom to expel all the salt out (stop if you don’t want to get grossed out) via diarrhea and never got any Edema. Smh, not to say Salt isn’t bad cause it definitely can be for Edema and for our Veins but yeah.

      @WeAllLaughDownHere-ne2ou Pitting edema in your lower legs and ankles, especially with symptoms like a headache and pressure behind the eyes, could be a sign of something more serious, such as circulation or kidney issues. It may or may not be related to your leg workout, but these symptoms shouldn't be ignored. I recommend seeing a healthcare professional as soon as possible to get a proper evaluation and address any underlying issues. Stay safe!

    What about lymphedema

    • @MedicalCentric
      @MedicalCentric  ปีที่แล้ว

      Lymphedema is a condition characterized by the swelling of body parts, typically the arms or legs, due to the accumulation of lymph fluid. It occurs when the lymphatic system, which is responsible for draining excess fluid from the body, is impaired. This can happen due to surgery, radiation therapy, infection, or other factors that affect the lymph nodes or vessels.
      Managing lymphedema involves various approaches, such as compression therapy, manual lymphatic drainage, exercise, and skin care. Compression garments help control swelling, and exercises may promote lymphatic flow. However, it's crucial for individuals with lymphedema to work with healthcare professionals to develop a tailored treatment plan based on their specific condition and needs.

      @MedicalCentric  3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Edema, or swelling due to fluid retention, can indeed be related to kidney problems since the kidneys play a crucial role in regulating fluid balance in the body. When the kidneys are not functioning properly, they may not be able to remove excess fluid, leading to edema. It's important to work closely with your healthcare provider to manage your kidney condition and address any symptoms like edema, as they may require specific treatments or adjustments in your care plan.

      Just got mine around 8 PM. I’m very overweight about 80 pounds and Lead a sedentary lifestyle but I’m only 23 years old. I noticed it yesterday after having a salt heavy meal from McDonalds cause my calves felt “tight” and when I looked down, I saw my slightly swollen up feet and freaked the hell out cause while I was fasting just days prior, I was able to see the bone in my feet quite easily. I almost ran to the doctor immediately but I’m gonna wait for 3 Days to see if it improves because I just have a feeling it will. One thing thats important to note is I just came off of a 12 DAY FAST where I only drank water so maybe my body wasn’t ready for all this Sodium or something idk. Couple that with being overweight, having twice or maybe even three times the amount of daily recommended sodium that day, tons of carbs, AND not to mention the fact that I was standing for around 12 hours yesterday with little movement and Im fairly sure that’s the reason for this slight edema I’ve been experiencing for the first time ever. If it doesn’t go away in 2 - 4 days though, I’ll be visiting a doctor just to make sure I’m not going to freaking die but so far I feel perfectly fine, legs are only a bit tight and I have a light amount of pitting edema but slowly feeling better. Feel like I just had the perfect storm for this but then again if it gets worse or it goes away and comes back, it’s time to get it checked. I’ll keep this comment updated if y’all want, just reply to it, thanks.

    • @TheMillionDollarDropout
      @TheMillionDollarDropout 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Just going to monitor my situation and make sure I have no accompanying pains, loss of breath, or worsened swelling. Staying off the salt for the next 3 Days as well and drinking plenty of water. Hope I never have to experience this again. It’s freaky and feels alarming. I saw a Reddit comment from someone who said when they were “Stationed on a nuclear carrier” they got Edema but it never happened again. They also said it was strange. Another comment from someone said their entire family gets this when it begins to get bit outside but no Doctor can explain why.

      It sounds like you're feeling frustrated with the healthcare system, particularly concerning edema and possibly how it's being handled. Edema, or swelling caused by fluid retention, can have various underlying causes, such as heart, liver, or kidney issues, and it's crucial to get an accurate diagnosis. If you feel that you're not getting the proper care or that financial motivations are affecting your treatment, seeking a second opinion from another healthcare provider might be a good step. It's important to find a doctor you trust who will prioritize your health and well-being.
