For those of us who love the blues and play guitar this is solid gold stuff. Accessible, informative and inspiring. I’d not heard of Matt Schofield before tonight, I’ve got a lot of listening to look forward to! Thanks for putting this together.
Love this. Matt is such a lovely guy and his playing is next level, such fantastic tone and feel. Us Brit's lost the opportunity to go and see him play, on a regular basis, now that he's resident in the USA. Hope he's getting the attention and audiences he deserves :-)
What I like about Matt's playing the most is how articulate it is. There is nothing to hide behind. Not too much gain, reverb ect. It's pure sound, just the notes he picks and the phrases he uses
This looks insane! Thank you for giving Matt the introduction he deserves. I hear that you’ve also had Kirk Fletcher in for a course (comping hopefully). If you can sign up Josh Smith you’ll have the trinity of heirs to SRV, Ford, and EC.
I just recently learned of Matt Schofield and I really enjoy his style of playing. He talks about playing in the scale of each chord. At 39.08 you talk about being stuck in the rut of the minor pentatonic box pattern. I was stuck in my playing the same way. I would just like to share the major influence that helped me break out of that box and open up the whole fingerboard on guitar. Steve Crowell has a website called Easy Jazz Guitar. He developed a teaching book called 84 Equations for Jazz guitar. The content will apply to any style of music. I've purchased several study books over the years but the Steve Crowell information is the one that has made the most impact on me personally.
Matt has a jazzy playing, even when playing blues. So hard to play, so good to hear. I love his album As far as I can see, and his Red Dragon makes me think of some Jimi s Voodoo 👍
Matt Scholfield likes to use chordal tones in his playing, I love it and his feel is awesome. I love Albert King, B.b King dudes vibrato was awesome. What I love most about Scholfield is he knows his blues history.
44:43 Awesome, Matt discussing listening to Mitch Mitchell and bringing some of his techniques to guitar. Great stuff. 1:01:05 New album next year with Johnny again(!).
Went on the TrueFire site today and searched Matt Schofield. Nothing found. No mention of an upcoming course. Tough to understand how you could film a live session for TH-cam but not put anything on your site about him. Anyone have an ETA as yet?
They left his voice mic on while he was playing. When he gets into these solos his breathing is in rhythm with his playing. I wish I could connect it all like that.
Can someone help me understand what is happening over the V chord and IV chord between 59:10 and 59:16. Over the V chord E7, he's targeting the minor 7th of E. Over the IV chord D7, he's targeting G? Where does the G note fit in with this? Please don't reply with "because it sounds good." I already know that. I'm trying to understand the concept so I can incorporate it elsewhere in my blues playing. Thanks in advance for the help!
C (half step bend to C#) to d over the 5 chord is like a slide up to the 7 of the 5 chord... but more punctuated. Then the slide from D# to e to the g over the 4 chord... I'm sure you see that.. anyways technically it's an 11th of the 4 chord... but to my ear it's a lead in, that builds up the tension in order to punctuate the 1 when the progression hits the 1 chord. Hes leading back to the 1 chord before hand to create tension and resolve.
Can someone please tell us when this will be available? I'm sure there are dozens of others standing by with cash and credit cards in hand, waiting anxiously.
All good with Matt. but Waht.the.heck. with all that moaning...during the track at min. 20? It sounds as if someone was watching ap orn movie there and the sound got into the mix.. seriously. 8-¦ PS: Ap orn movie where the guy is louder than the girl. Let me clarify. LOL

“You can’t do something complex really well if you can’t do something simple really well” really resonates
Keep it simple... Less is more.

“How you apply the knowledge you have is what’s going to make you sound great”. I think Matt hits on a really important point.
Love how you can hear him humming and singing in the background while he’s soloing 😄 Great feel!
wow, this is incredibly inspiring. Thanks so much Matt and TrueFire

@@gookiecrunch Thanks Robert! I've been using this lick and it seems to be a great way to build tension and finish of the solo. Thanks again.
Cool guy 👍
Smokin!
Wow!!!
Where can I get this backing track!
Great playing but even better use of the word malarkey!
Ben Affleck is a great sound engineer 👌👌
Pat Wiblin Music And Clapton is a good interviewer...:)
Beautiful tone. When he does play edgy it’s not angry. A rare blend of sophistication without sounding pretentious.
Did Matt spaff himself at 14:50?!
Can someone please tell us when this will be available? I'm sure there are dozens of others standing by with cash and credit cards in hand, waiting anxiously.
He is dating a kick ass Singer, too.
I didnt know eric clapton owns truefire

If you don't want people to listen to your music on Spotify, then its simple, dont' put it there in the first place.

They accidentally landed here in search of metal guitar tutorial ...this stuff is way above from their reach and understanding right now
