    Best video I found. My Dyson Ball Animal+ is five years old and didnt smell bad but definitely wasn't fresh, so I ordered new filters instead of continuing to wash them, and used the tips in your video to disassemble the cyclone. Soaked the parts in hot water mixed with dawn and vinegar, xleaned with different brushes, then soaked a bit more in hot water mixed with some enzyme carpet cleaner then sprayed with some scent free Lysol. One final rinse then air dried outside.
    Probably completely overkill but it is like brand new again. Even with regular cleaning of the filters and roller head unit, still needed some deeper maintenance.

    This is an incredible instructional video for all you need to thoroughly disassemble, clean, and most importantly REASSEMBLE your DC65 Dyson. I acquired one that was more disgusting than the one in this video. Reeked of animal and had major amounts of caked on dirt. I started to try to clean it as best as I could, even took a leaf blower to it, and knew I needed to be able to use soap and water. I was able to get it beautifully clean (although I wish I had done what another reviewer did and soaked the parts (especially gaskets) in vinegar and enzyme cleaners. There was still some odor in the rubber gaskets, even after covering in baking soda and ziplocking into a bag for over 24 hours. If I have any critique, the video did not show well the part where you have to reinstall the spring of the cyclone (although he says he has a hard time videoing that part). Eventually I figured out how to get it back, but that was the hardest part of the entire assembly. The length of the video is perfect, not too short that something isn't covered, and not too long that you are wasting time watching something unnecessary. For cleaning the beater brush area, Dyson has an instructional video.

    4 years old and still going strong!!! It not only took me some patience and perseverance to find this excellent video on how to responsibly clean a DC41 (disassembling and reassembling), it also took the same to follow your excellent instructions with the intention of doing the job responsibly. You can imagine I was intentionally being hesitant to do this job at all until your video gave me the confidence to tackle the operation. This was not my vacuum (it belongs to my partner's mom ;-) and she was willing to let me clean to my heart's content, but who wants to damage a perfectly good piece of equipment.
    What really got me looking for your video was when I saw that the gunky flakes stuck inside the duct cover were not breaking up after spraying water inside, and thought it was time to go deep. My canister wasn't stinky, yet it was reassuring to know that going the extra mile to find out that the inner chamber was so filthy dirty, was worth the effort (which you do not see when just following the basic clean instructions suggested by DYSON on their company site).
    However, I didn't go to the same lengths as some other viewers to wash the parts; cold water with some light hose spray and a final clean with Clorox wipes was suitable at the time for me. Should I need to go at it again, I might use one of those wire straw cleaning brushes and Dawn dish soap to boot. Not sure if warm water is necessary - perhaps you can comment on cold water v hot/warm water use. My one flaw at finishing the job was getting the spring for the latch to open the canister to work perfectly after reassembly. I had to disassemble again to get it right - no problem, practice helps makes perfect. Some of your instruction while you were pointing the camera was out of view - but I got the idea as you spoke over the video. Job well done! You should be proud of yourself and cheers! BTW, the bandage on your finger also helped keep me attentive as well :-)).

    This is exactly what I was looking for! I was able to pick up a used DC41 for $50, but could not get rid of the heavy dog smell, even after washing the filters. The culprit was absolutely the cyclone and the rubber seals in the dust bin. I admit I was very stressed taking it apart but I trusted the process and had success! Thank you for saving me money and giving me confidence to do it myself!

      @@richardsvacuumcenter Some people rinse the cyclone under a faucet without disassembling it. Will it completely dry if left out for a long period of time? If so, how much time would you suggest?

    • @richardsvacuumcenter
      @richardsvacuumcenter  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@derp8575 I'll give you my experience with this method. I personally don't suggest it. It tends to create even more and worse odor than not rinsing at all. The reason I believe is because 1) rinsing does not eliminate 100% of the dust and 2) the time to dry is significantly longer due to little to no airflow inside all that closed space. The residual debris and the extended moisture create an environment for mold and bacteria to thrive. My suggestion is to either take apart to clean so it can dry completely OR don't do anything but clean and wash the filter. Hope this helps

    Fantastic video. I looked at several other videos, and this is the only one that walks you clearly through all the steps. I am not very handy and am amazed I was able to do this. Very complicated but you break it down beautifully. You should note at the beginning that you need a long T15 screwdriver to to this. I was lucky to have one. Thanks again.

    Thanks a million! I've used the water method and let it dry in the HOT 100 plus degree days and not gotten a funky stink, but, the vacuum had been relegated to cleaning the garage floor because it wasn't working well in the house. I have hope that it will work well now that it's had a very deep clean. I found your video very helpful. My vacuum is an Animal 2, UP20, and things were different, but the basics were the same!

I was ready to buy a new one but after watching this video and following all the clear instructions there’s no need to buy a new one. Only problem I had is I didn’t have a long enough torx to get the last part of the cyclone apart but still I gave it a good clean.

And likely the soul of a cleaning lady. 😅 I don't have any idea what you chose to clean those parts, but it was obviously a wise choice. Truly! It looked brand new when you reassembled the dust bin. Thank you so much for this video. My older (2011) DC41’s red canister release catch button snapped, rendering my machine unusable and all the purchasable aftermarket catch button parts are for the newer Dc 41s with a different sized “plunger” etc. My options were either a new cyclone for $100 or a new machine for $300 plus. I bought the ‘wrong’ 10$ version piece off amazon and told myself I’m going to figure out how to make this work. This video was the key. Not only did I give my machine the deep cleaning I now know it clearly needed 😩, but, I saved myself several hundreds of dollars. The new piece retro fitted once I was able to removed all the other connecting pieces, and replace them too. This Covid-unemployed left handed handy bartender sincerely appreciates you generously sharing your patient detailed knowledge and left-handed video.

I tried to find a replacement gasket/filter, the one that you put some electrical tape on, and after driving 75 miles, one way, to my nearest Dyson service center (I did call them the day before and I described it and they said they had one and put my name on it. BUT, it was the thicker rubber one so luckily I brought the torn one with me. Technician said that they don't have that and I would need a entire cyclone unit and how did I get to it. I explained your process and mentioned that I drove 75 miles after explaining in detail what I need.....he said...."Wait a few minutes":....came back out with a partially disassembled cyclone unit and said "since you got to that part you should be able to get this together"....no charge!!!!!! Don't know if you still read these comments but firstly, thank you for your calm, well-filmed video. There were only a couple of parts where I couldn't see what you were doing. My husband was impressed I could take it all apart. Well, as I had no clue what a T15 screwdriver was he did have to scrounge around and find one we could use that was barely long enough. :) With all the washing and dry time this took me several days. It took me 1-1/2 hours to get that spring back on properly while putting on the next part that held it all in place. Needed an extra hand! I had no trouble with the outer canister gasket but I am still stuck on the smaller gasket. It evidently somehow stretched although I took it off gently and didn't pull. The inner edge will go down in its channel but the outer edge will not. I get it in most of the way around and then I'm left with excess material. In home sewing this is worse than setting in a sleeve! So I thought I'd just buy a new one. None to be found even on Ebay. I could spend $30-40 for a new canister which I don't want to do. So I researched shrinking rubber. Hair dryer trick for 5 minutes made no change. I held my breath and tried the boiling water for 5 minutes (was afraid to go 10!). Still no change. How important is it for the gasket to be down in the channel on the outer edge of this gasket if the inner edge is in its channel? Help!!!

    I find so many in the garbage on garbage day. Most of the time they are just plugged up, other they need a part (which I’ll buy for cheap on Kijiji). Works out well, as I sell them on Kijiji as soon as I know they work! Thanks for your video. I’ve never taken the new ones apart, only the older style until now. Very thorough!

    Excellent explanation of process, and visual. I have a DC41, and it is exactly like the patient being operated on, here. I have had this sweeper since 2015, and done this 5 times, haven't broken anything, yet. Over the years, the filter in the top has never had any dirt or dust in it. I don't think the air actually moves through it, or else the dirt has always collected on the Cyclone surfaces. The filthy dirt and dust is deffinately in the Cyclone, but never in the filter.

    Very good job. Need another canister, check with your Hoover/Shark dealer. People trade Dysons in and they end up in the dumpsters. Local dealer has given me two canisters. Both were clogged because of liquid! Yes were your respiratory, they smell to hi-heaven. All they need is a good cleaning. Mine are headed to my diy router table vacuum system.

    Recently upgraded to a Sebo Essential G4 from a Dyson DC41. I forgot how easy it is to maintai bagged vacuums and how much cleaner my carpets look. I kept my Dyson immaculate and those cyclones still clogged with fine pet hair and general gunk. Can't believe I drank the Dyson koolaid. Bagged is way more hygenic and a more humane way to extract and dispose of dirt.

      couldn't agree more .Why anyone wants to spend lots of money on what is basically a motor and tons of plastic is beyond me Our 50 year old Hoover upright is still doing its job with the occasional new belt and brushes just as it did when new and when the bag is full just bin it and fit a new one .What could be simpler

    Hi, thanks for your video. You covered what I needed. By the way, my vacuum canister inners looked just like this one (as caked). I never got mine wet but I do live near the ocean so I think the high humidity has caused the caked effect unfortunately.

    Oh my goodness, this is the best, easiest to follow video I've found on how to clean my Dyson DC41. I've had it for years and it's a great vacuum, but I didn't think I could ever clean it all the way. So here's what I'm wondering: If someone is a little older who arthritis in their hands and fears not being able to completely take everything apart, especially when you get to the spring. Is there a way to clean it without taking it apart completely? I live in the desert, so if I do it within the next few months, everything will dry, thoroughly. It's arid and about 110 degrees here. I feel I could take it apart okay, but getting it back together might be a bit much for these old hands. What's your opinion please?

    • @richardsvacuumcenter
      @richardsvacuumcenter  3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I don’t recommend getting it wet if you don’t plan on taking it completely apart. Otherwise you don’t get all the dirt out and it smells worse as the moisture inside dries.

    This was a great video and I was able to get the nasty thing opened up and clean everything. Went back together just fine and even got the spring in right the first time. HOWEVER.... I lost some suction from the process. It definitely isn't hugging the carpet as hard as before. The only thing that I may have done wrong is put one of the thin little gaskets on upside down. Can't imagine that would cause noticeable loss of suction though. I know this video was posted a few years ago, but does anyone have any thoughts on why I've lost some suction even though it's now squeaky clean?
    Update: I may have figured out the issue. The little silver button that releases the dust bin wasn't in correctly and didn't snap in place to hold the dust bin securely. All good now! Thanks for the great video!

    Amazing tutorial. Thank you. Before finding this great step by step guide I’ve just washed the whole thing with running lukewarm water through the whole thing and shook up and down, side to side to get as much dirt out as possible, which also resulted in a bit of steam inside the blue cap right at the top of the cyclone which you’ve warned us against in your video. I’ve dried the whole thing in the sun which seems ok except for the trapped steam in that blue cap. Do you have any suggestions how to get rid of the unsightly steam please? Thank you very much.

    Super helpful, thanks. I disassembled and cleaned the bottom nozzle and brush assembly, then got to the screen assembly part by myself, and got stuck. Everything on the inside still smelled, so I intend to do everything in this vid tonight to finish cleaning it properly. I understand you used soap and water to clean. Do you think vinegar or clorox disinfecting spray could also help, since it kills all the germs that cause the smell?

    Thanks so much! I gave my Dyson a deep clean following these excellent instructions! However, I am about to give up on the machine: It's parts are slowly breaking. The wheel over the filter has been broken for a while, the cannister is now held on by a bungee core, and I've never liked the dirst that escapes from the cannister. It does have great suction, but 'm not sure I want another messy bagless machine that falls apart! May want to go back to a bagged, cannister vac. Recommendations?

    • @richardsvacuumcenter

      Riccar or Miele both make great bagged canister vacuums. Riccar has a very nice upright bagged as well that works very well on hard floors. Let me know if you have any questions!

      depends on each person and how much odor builds up. lots of pets, maybe once per year. no pets maybe once per 5 years or so. just a suggestion though :)
