WONDERFUL EXPLANATION!!!! ONE OF THE BEST VIDEOS I NEVER SAW BEFORE. I have been working as an electrician for 35 years, some people ask me if I know some of sprinklers systems, I didn't know that it was so easy. Today I did my home sprinklers system for the first time and your explanation was so accurate and clear. Now I have a couple of neighbors who want me to do the work of sprinklers. TANK YOU ..... BEST OF THE BEST.

Great video. Couple things to note in PVC. PVC is interference fit so after you apply cement be sure to hold the fittings on the pipe. What's actually happening is the PVC is melting together. Apply a liberal amount of cement to the pipe and then apply a thin layer of cement to the inside of the fittings. Awesome video!

6 years later - greetings from 2021 lol. I'm extending my irrigation system to the back yard and bought a cover box and 3 rain bird valves expecting to make a PVC manifold. Stumbled across this Orbit 3-valve manifold at Menards and it was a no brainer. It costs only a few $ more than buying 3 bare valves and you get all the PVC parts as well! Unions alone would add $20 to the price of this thing. Nice watch - thanks!

Excellent video. I love the thoroughness. Just what I needed. I’ve always heard to not use petroleum based lubricants like Vaseline on rubber o rings. Instead we should use a water soluble version like KY that doesn’t break down the rubber.

I'm in the process of having to upgrade my irrigation system and find your information very useful.
Just an F.Y.I. , I would be cautious using petroleum products [Vaseline, etc] on rubber gaskets as tends to degrade the rubber. A silicone base grease might be more appropriate.

Great tutorial. I like the clean install of the valve unit and the plastic enclosure. I'll be building our yard irrigation from scratch later this summer, so this video was helpful. I'll probably make my hole and valve enclosure extra long to allow for future expansion of more valves/zones. Thanks for the tutorial.

It went in as cool as I thought from the online pics. This vid answered something that wasn't properly answered online specs I found, AC or DC.. Since it doesn't matter which wire you picked for common that sounds like AC . Good tutorial (I will be using the piece underneath with the cutouts already there...) Thank you very much.

Great video you are probably not checking this anymore. Dry fitting helps so much. Question where is the backflow valve? You should apply both primer and glue to the inside of the female fitting (socket) and the outside of the male pipe after little sanding and cleaning parts your gluing. I believe you could have inlet from both ends. With that in mind why didn't you enter throw your capped side with one 90 making another outlet side of valves end face the old pipes ? Again great job made it look easy .

Great video! Orbit is the ONLY? sprinkler valve maker that provides a ready made manifold + Unions for easy removal all for $50 is an amazing bargain. A few suggestions - better not to cut the box on top of the manifold as it strains the white pvc joints a lot. Also, the waterproof grease is silicone based - I use a tube of Faucet and Valve grease with an acid brush with the bristles trimmed in half to apply it. Great on electrical connections and for lubing o-rings, and on screw heads and threads to block corrosion. Also, better to trim the hole for the pipe in the valve box extra wide - protects the pipes if the box ever needs to be pried out to repair or extend system. Good to take a magic marker and label pipes & valves AND (wires with tags - eve though color coded makes it easier to work on valves without referencing the chart back at the box). Ex Valve "A1" "A2" etc the draw an arrow with flow - "A1 IN" , "A1 OUT" etc. Sand all connections before gluing PVC & use less cement - it can drip in to the pipe on the inside also excess cement is supposed to be wiped off as it can weaken the pipe. Put bricks under the box to add more space under the valves - easier to remove / install new valve. More room to work. Put gravel around the side of the box about 3/4 to the top, then lay fabric on top and cover with mulch.

Very nice. Thank you for sharing, questions:
    1. How to avoid dirty water from backing into the main line?
    2. How deep should the values be buried to avoid the water pipes from damage in winter freeze?
    3. Do I need a drain valve somewhere?

    • @AdamDIY
      @AdamDIY  8 ปีที่แล้ว +2

You use a backflow preventer to block the water from coming back. (I have a video on that)
How deep? I guess that depends on where you live but really it does not matter because you should be blowing out your lines ever fall so that freezing is not an issue. Never leave water in your pipes over the winter.
Drain valves are great. They make a few different types. I would put it right in the box along with everything else. remember to put it in the lowest part of the pipe lines so that it can drain all the water.

Question: I saw you turn the valve to get water in the system, so I do the same then turn the valve off? I am a bit confused as to how that is set up. I turned it on and like yours, it leaks a bit. I have my timer and I am going hook that up like you explained. Will the timer open the valve on its own (inside valve)?

I have a Toro 212 control sprinkler system, it's been tested recently and working fine, this is a 15 year system. The system was opened this year and I cannot get a rise out of any of the heads. The backflow has been checked there is water pressure coming into the valve and out, but no water pressure at the manifold. I have no leak physical leaks and my water bill is normal. One suggesting is, my tree roots is squeezing the pvc pipe to the extend that there is reduced water pressure going to the manifold. I need help.

A good rule of thumb is to make sure your poly line's rated 100psi or better. That said, I prefer poly for the outgoing zones, and hard pipe before the valves. The run through the vac-break is traditionally copper, as it's stronger and isn't affected by sunlight..

Can you tell me more about the wires? Does your existing wire always have 6 small wires as I saw on the video? Or different wires will have different number of wires inside? Why did you leave the yellow wire and the 2nd red wire out? Can I connect the other 3 wires freely or I have to do exactly what you did in the pictures? Can I use one of the two extra wires to connect instead? Do you need to build a fence with bricks to prevent the soil come inside the box and to prevent the box tilt to one side due to heavy rain with a lot of water?

Hi. Thanks for the video. I just hooked an orbit timer to my orbit valves similar to yours. I have not hooked the water up yet but I did a dry run using "manual" to see if the valves would open (to see if the power was working). The valve made a continuous electric motor sound and there was no turning motion of the black knob on top. Is the black knob just for opening by hand? Is the continuous motor sound (quite loud) normal? I can't hook up the water right now because I have to take the long trip to town for more parts.
