Won't this cause an arm race? All countries there will have to spent billions on better and better airplains (and air defense, and anti-airdefense, and anti-anti-airdefense...).
@Rajveer Singh - For Colombia? First, it isn't going to happen since they are allied with the U.S. and their adversary, Venezuela, already operates the Su-30MK2. Colombia needs a lightweight-but-deadly multirole plane that can serve a counterinsurgency and close air support role while also being able to intercept Flankers if necessary in the case of aggression or some sort of airspace incursion from the south. The three planes I named would be the best choices. The Eurofighter would provide the most sheer power and a dissimilar foe for the Flankers to the south, the F-16V is probably the best multirole bang for the buck and supports a cozy relationship with Washington, and a Gripen purchase would likely be able to give them the largest number of units if they could piggyback on Brazil's purchase and have them built by Embraer in-continent. If Colombia was ever truly in need of heavy air superiority fighters, it would likely be in a situation where the USAF have an F-22 or F-15 presence to support its ally and destroy Maduro's AF all at once.
@Rajveer Singh - Huh? Actually one of the main issues India and many other clients have had with the Sukhois is the lack of a reliable chain of replacement parts and support - and being brought into Russia's sphere of influence is a scary prospect, given its support of Maduro and other authoritarian regimes across the world. The F-16 is proven in combat, parts are abundant worldwide and there is already a positive allied relationship with the USA that can be made even greater. Oh, and it's "Colombia." ;)
@Rajveer Singh not quite true bro, Colombia is also a close partner and ally of Israel as shown in their Kfirs no need to rely on Lockheed only, actually all the tech inside those Kfirs is F16 compatible.
