    They're both great cars but I slightly favor the Pontiac Grand Prix as the 1965 full sized Pontiac's are some of my all time favorite vehicles.

    Both of these are great old cars. Kudos to Chrysler marketing for pointing out their cars' "advantages" in comparison. The Chrysler still looks like the box the Grand Prix came in.

    The base 383 2bbl 300 was $55 more than a loaded Pontiac..2023 dollars thats $540 more still nothing..But jump to a nice tire squealing and quick 383 4bbl or the Powerful 413 4 barrel version then its a few thousand more.
    I would buy the 300L 413 4bbl and try to get the 4 speed manual..Would be a killer ride!
    I had a 65 300L 413 4bbl and it blew away 1990 5.0 Mustangs back in 1990 when I owned it for a little..Sold it to a Chrysler Club Member fro $2200 in 1990,thought I made out great,oh well..I bought it for $900 all original 140,000 miles just rebuilt the carb,put 2 mufflers and brakes and used tires on it(i was very young)..

      the 1965 Chryslers were the best American car - they were designed to be better built - dad had the Pontiacs and a 1965 New Yorker at the same time and there really was no comparison - did you know you could push start that car if the battery went? that said, the Pontiacs of the 1960's were mostly gorgeous

  • @TheDude12374
    @TheDude12374 9 หลายเดือนก่อน +6

    The 1965 Pontiacs were some of the most beautiful cars ever built, with the Grand Prix being the most distinctive. Not only were the Pontiacs better looking than the Chryslers, they rode on full frames with full coil suspensions. Mopars were unibodies riding on old leaf springs, which made them noisier and harsher riding. One other cool thing about the Pontiacs is that they were equipped with the first articulated windshield wipers, a feature no other GM division had at the time.

    7:27 - I was a teen when my mom had her new ‘65 Chrysler Windsor hardtop. A great car and IMO a class above the Pontiac.
    Except perhaps for one minor deficiency, brakes. From 120 mph, which the Chrysler attained with ease, the brakes were good for one stop. After that, 15 minutes were needed for them to cool. But hey, that was just the right amount of time to have a smoke. When you need ALL the specs, have a teen test the car!

  • @KDoyle4

    The 1965 - 1968 Chryslers were the best built full-size Chrysler's made in the post-WWII era. The Pontiac sure is nice, but I'll take the Chrysler. It's worthy to note that the Chrysler films comparing them to other brands actually point out valid facts, and the GM films bend and twist the half truths they give.

    the main differences back then between the big 3 were ride quality: ford handled the worst but had the smoothest and quietest ride, mopar was the exact opposite and GM was in the middle.
    Styling wise there is no comparison, the 65 big Pontiacs were peak styling. The 300 looks amateurish by comparison.

      My grandfather had a ‘65 Pontiac, their big sedan. And it was a stripper! Everything about that car screamed “Cheap!” Like the cheesy vinyl upholstery, the plain Jane design, and especially the three-on-the-column shifter. The Mopars I encountered in my youth seemed more like driver’s cars. And the people who bought them were superior drivers. Nothing over the intervening years changed my impression about either car.

    What we have here is a “dealer promo film.” A promo is a promotion. “Promo” is an abbreviated form of the word “promotion.” The idea is to help the dealer sell the automobile. The automobile the dealer will be selling is the Chrysler automobile. The more Chrysler automobiles the dealer sells the more money the dealer and the motor company will make.

    If you compare car prices, wages and cost of living. The price for the cheapest car today is more expensive than the highest price luxury exotic car of the 50's to 70's. If I lived in that time, with my job. I could buy a new car at least once. Possibly every few years. But in today's economy. I couldn't buy an economy car if I wanted to. Plus cars back then were built to be reliable and easy to maintain. Vehicles today are built to be disposable appliances that you can't work on without a bunch of special computer equipment and software.
    I was born in the wrong era

      I was driving 60s and 70s cars and trucks daily until well into the 2000s. I never had problems getting old cars to start, unless they wouldn't crank because the oil was so cold (below zero).
      The thing is, those cars had "personality". Both as a "make", and as individuals. Especially when they got some miles on them, you had to get to know what they liked, and didn't like.
      As far as repairability? I was out on a drive one afternoon, when the old Thermoquad in the car Chernobyled. Three hours later, after pushing it into a parking lot, calling kid to pick me up, visit to O'Reillys to pick up an Edelbrock AVS clone, and installing it with the tools I had in my trunk, it's running again.
      Water pump started leaking. Less than an hour to R&R.
      Try doing the same with anything built since 1990.

      Its amazimg how you manage to be wrong on every point you are trying to make. Today's cars are just better, and neither then, nor now can average people can afford top of the line luxury.

    • @joeseeking3572
      @joeseeking3572 9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Actually this is true. the average Joe could trade in his car every couple of years and buy new again. Most families did this. We didn't have leases or really anything longer than 3 year financing. But, as much as I like cars of this era, they did not include a whole bunch of things we take for granted (and insist on) today. From AC to stereo to power everything - all 2020's safety features and the huge mpg advantage a 20202 car will provide while still being quicker 0-60. The real era of comparison lament was when I started driving in the 80's - cars then were dismal (!) and something like my friend's 68 New Yorker with a 440 made an 83 wheezing Olds 307 look ridiculous.

      The Chevys were stylish and elegant.
      The Pontiacs went way too far with the chrome.
      Probably the way to go in 1965. But they don't age very well, compared to the 65-66 full size Chevys, the Toronado, Riviera, and even the ElDorado.

    Gotta differ with most of the comments. The understated styling of the Chrysler ages better than the 65 Full size Pontiacs.
    Not to worry. Pontiac did a lot better in 66-67.
