Take nothing away from Gary who was an astounding guitarist and songwriter when he was alive. Almost can't compare the two versions as each stand on their own merit.
This song is so sad. And the guitar speak of this sadness. Here Tommy really has caught Gary Moore's ability to put the feelings into the guitar. A masterpiece!

Great reaction & yes you should check out the original based on Gary's live performance from Stockholm 1987 (not the studio version) you'll find it on TH-cam. Also the bass part that you liked was played by Bob Daisley on that tour.
This tribute/cover by Tommy is phenomenal. The vocals and guitars are stunning. But I guarantee you that you will not like it 10 times better than the original. You may like it better but definitely not 10 times. I'm sure Tommy would be the first to agree with me that Gary Moore is a real legend and contender for the greatest of all time.
A bit surprusing that You never heard of Gary Moore. Tommy would never claim a song from a true legend like him. He is far to humble. This is a tribute in it's purest form.
