Absolutely. But in this case alot of the comments seem to have come from people feeling alienated from Max. A PS5 pro is expensive, yes, but a gaming PC that can deliver the same performance is way more expensive (for real, it is, thrift store miracles are an exception). So him shitting on the PS5 Pro was received as a bit elitist. People out there care about making good investments so when someone says that it's shit compared to this other, more expensive, thing that they can't afford it comes off as classist. That was never Max's intentions, of course, but that was the MOST common vibe from the comments and there's validity to it - there's a lot of PC elitism going around making people sensitive to it and the reality is that the choice between console or PC is most often a difference in disposable income and Max is obviously a wealthy individual at this point. This video won't reach those people either because he seems to have missed this aspect of it. Also his point about him not having allegiance to any console now is a GOOD perspective to have, but that is a perspective that's a lot easier to have if you own all the consoles. If the PS5 is all you have, of course you will feel good about it when a game comes to your console, some take that emotion too far, but it's absolutely not an irrational response when you're "stuck" with whatever decision you made about which console to get.
My biggest mistake in my life so far has been buying the ps4. From the moment I knew that the online was paid and the games would have to be downloaded I knew something was wrong with that generation of consoles.

I maintain if you are over 16 and engage in fanboyism, maybe take a step back and ask yourself "why is this that important to me?" and when you can't answer that with any reasonable answer, maybe try checking out a good game from "the other side" once in a while.

Oh yeah, me too. I'm also a 22 year old with 17-19 years of game playing experiences, man! Totally! I'm totally NOT 32 years old or anything like that...I'm legit, 22, I swear...with no personal allegiance to consoles, and only the games, JUST like Max. I realized that when I was 7-8 back in 2000, while playing Majora's Mask or Resident Evil 2 on the N64, and realizing that its not the consoles that matter most, it's the games themselves, because the N64 version of RE2 was the best LOOKING and best playing version of the original RE2(besides the DreamCast version), and MM is my favorite Zelda game. But while I couldn't play every console, I was fine with the N64, although I did want an Xbox and PS1, I couldn't afford them. But I did want the games for them though...and still do. Same with the PS2 and PS3. But like Max is saying, it's not the consoles, it's the games, and always been about the games. That's why I love games like MVC and Smash Bros. because I've always wanted to see Ryu fighting against Wolverine or Spider-Man, and in Smash Bros., see Ryu fight Mario or Sonic the Hedgehog, and Solid Snake, or Sora from Kingdom Hearts, or Terry Bogard, or Banjo-Kazooie or Joker from P5. Or Kazuya Mishima from Tekken. That's why I love games like that. That's why I got into the original Super Smash Bros., because I saw Mario, Link, Samus, Pikachu, Fox, all in the same game at once. I thought it was a dream I was having about seeing all these characters in the same game, but nope, it was real. Same with MVC2. It was technically a dream, made fully realized. That's what both Smash Bros. And the MVC franchise are: dreams fully realized into the best crossover series, but not without their own flaws, of course, but they're still great to always play. But I definitely wouldn't mind a Tekken Tag Tournament 3 though.
As a kid I would always scrape funds or beg for a console for birthdays or Christmas because I wanted the games coming out for it. I’ve pretty much always followed games and ended up getting most consoles in that generation since the PS2 because I love games, period. Couldn’t agree more!
I think the console tribalism comes from access. People don’t want to feel bad that they don’t have one, or feel troubled that they can no longer get their game on their console (and perhaps can’t justify getting the new one) KH fans have been through it
Nah exclusives used to mean something. Now it’s just a bad trend. I stopped that console loyalty when the games lousy their soul and became cash grabs. PC is superior. We get mods. And people keep games going.
There is nothing wrong with prefering a system over another or only owning one and not the other. The problem arises when you see no fault on the brand you prefer and only see faults in the other. I prefer xbox because of a bunch of games and consumer friendly services and such. That doesn't mean they can do no wrong. I can give praise to things Sony or Nintendo does and give shit to Microsoft for some bad decisions. Give praise where it's due and call out bullshit decisions when they are made and don't blindly follow any one company, cause none of them are your friend, and they are only in it for the money. And people should understand that any pro consumer choice the company does isn't from the kindness of their hearts but because in that moment it's what brings them more money. So enjoy and praise the good moments but be ready to call them out when they try to take it away or do some other anti-consumer decision.
I used to do the whole console wars thing, then I switched to PC and never looked back. Pretty much every game I've ever wanted to play since then was available on PC except bloodborne, and I borrowed a friends ps4 to play that lol. Consoles are just worse in pretty much every way.
As a KH fan, you hit the nail on the head. Let our struggles be the example of how bad it can get, and strive to do better so no one has to go through what we did
Console allegiance is pure cancer. So stupid. You're absolutely right my dood. Owing your allegiance to a piece of plastic is pure stupidity. Play what you want, enjoy the games you like.
Once Halo died. That was it for us Xbots. We got no defense now really. It sucks. Xbox was strong and top dog and accepted as number 1 by everyone including PC gamers literally all because of Halo games. But ya know. Thanks 343. 😭
A comment about loving something always stayed with me: you don’t love something because of the good things it gives you, but in spite of what is not perfect about it. It’s the flaws that makes you love something, so to speak.
I mean it's pretty cool that I can take the switch on a road trip and my 2 kids can enjoy it in the back of the car together. They are 8 and 6 so they don't got cell phones, that is their Gameboy.
As an owner of various consoles (especially retro) 2025 and the disastrous state of the game industry along with these console manufacturers - is the absolute wrong time for fanboy/console war mindset. It's not the time to be upset if someone makes a light hearted joke about a console, they all suck right now. This isn't the glory days when Sega forced Nintendo to be their best and vice versa. Sony & Microsoft seem like they're going to circle the drain without course adjustment, and Nintendo with no competitor will keep re-releasing re-releases of re-releases, plus mario and Zelda.
If your speaking about the disastrous state of the gaming industry as a whole then you need to include pc fanboys right up there with console fanboys bc if anything they are worse.
Nintendo is the only hardware creator that also make enouth exclusive and legitimate titles to be worthy of being exclusive. Buying a Nintendo console is cheaper than every console of a generation. And grant you at least 100 exclusive titles. And for most they're developed by Nintendo so they're fully legitimate. So they support the legitimacy of games like Bayonetta being exclusive too.
11:20 Max it's all part of the same issues the industry is facing right now, high production values, saturated market, too expensive, demanding too much time... companies don't know when to pull back or call it quits; Nintendo relies on their brands and know their limits which is why they've thrived in the current market; if they weren't Nintendo, they would be in the shit as well...
It's sad that he needs to do a Ted Talk about "don't marry X multimillionaire company plastic box, love the games." On the other note, I'm glad I'm not the only one that loves games and wants them to be better every year... We need to enjoy the adventures, characters and stories this videogame gives to us.
I think he really did this rant to defend the fact that he bought a $700 system for a marginal video game visual upgrade, which not even 3 months later gets another significant upgrade (that we knew was coming) in which he again purchases and replays. I think the console allegiance thing is really just an additional rant tbh. Even when it was revealed at TGA, his friends were like "Bro you just bought that system..." Granted, Max is probably in a way higher tax bracket than the average person, and spending his life playing video games as work and making money off it gives him a much better opportunity to make meaningless purchases like that.
It's amazing to me that people still consider not having allegiance to a system or console some sort of edgy or interesting take. I had an Atari, a Nintendo, a Sega Genesis, a Turbo Graphix 16, a Super Nintendo, and then been on Playstation ever since. I've never had any allegiance to ANY of them. It has always been "what can I get the games I want on". Period. And frankly, the best experience I've ever had on anything gaming ever was remote playing The Witcher 3 on a PS Vita via remote play on my lunch breaks at work in full HD. To me, Vita is still my favorite console to date, and I still have absolutely NO allegiance to Sony. Moral of the story: I don't get any of you fuckers at all.
@@terrencepoinsett4169 But, he did bought PS5 Pro just for a slightly better looking FF7 Rebirth LOL. Which now exist on PC after only several months. That's mindless consumer behavior
As someone in the process of putting a PC Build together to handle PC gaming more than my current system. The coin flip of optimization is one thing that will still having me relying on my consoles for some games. But I have the consoles and PC to make sure I can play all the games I want.
Been saying this for years, finally someone with a level of influence saying it out loud. I understand why most ppl would prefer sticking to one platform coz not everyone gonna be able to afford everything and also out of convenience. But i do appreciate things for what it is and its understandable why some ppl would go to great lengths to collect stuff.
The DVD player in the PS2 really kept it afloat for like a year. All the kids in my neighborhood got one because their dads wanted to watch DVDs and it was the cheapest way to do it for a long time.
Rebirth is incredible on PS5 Pro. It's even incredible on PS5 Slim. Even though it's better on PC, it's not an absurd difference and it doesn't make the other versions bad. And that goes for most games today. Don't be idiots, guys.
Honest to god I didnt realize people would fight over only the console and company, not even caring the most about the games. I care about the games and the devs. Totally with you on that Max
I'm glad Max is pointing this out because that's exactly how I feel about it. Even in the early nineties with Super Nintendo and Sega Genesis I never seen it as rivalries rather than options. I've never been a fanboy of just one particular system rather enjoyed all of them for what they had to offer.
Same here. I never experienced this shit with actual friends. Most of the console wars stuff I read about in the magazines and seemed to be heavily pushed by some of them. With me & friends, we enjoyed what we had. Where my buddy Kurt up the road didn't have Snes, he could come play mine and I could go over his place and play Sega Genesis & PC games. Got real weird when you'd run into someone with an Atari Jaguar or 3DO though lol
I grew up with Nintendo consoles, got into Xbox as well when that came out and then swapped over from them to Sony for the PS4. I will buy every Nintendo console purely to play Zelda games. Sony's exclusives are also great and I just can't be bothered with wasting time on PC optimization. XBox hasn't released anything I want to play enough to buy an XBox for and now that they're not really doing exclusive games any more I guess I'll never have to, which feels odd. I can see an alternate timeline where XBox made all these acquisitions but all of the games became exclusive. All those CoD players had to buy XBoxes and suddenly they're selling as much or more consoles than Sony.
as an unc i can 100000% agree even on this platform the critics are just pushing there naratives whilist not giving actual pros and cons of what there reviewing/talking about
Today I learned of the nickname "Wii Poo" and it kind of is so plain and simple that it's genius! =P And funny how the death of the Bayonetta series wasn't 2 but its sequel, which is still a good game but has a TERRIBLE ending. =/
You know what I miss? When I was younger, people shared experiences up until fanboying really set in, when everything became "clics". Whatever console I had, I had a friend somewhere who had a different one and we would SHARE the experiences. They had something I wanted to play and I had things they wanted to try. So much of that is gone and that really sad. I didn't feel that way again until I got my Series X WHILE also having my PS5. Suddenly I was trying what my Xbox friends liked too. What sucks is people acting like you're a traitor for enjoying both. That attitude is rotten to the core.
Like it or not the average consumer will mostly have 1 console to play as entertainment.." "Console wars" seems a motivated factor bringing out exclusive before and be the best ..
I remember the only time I really fell into console wars was when I was a teen and had a 360, it was Vs the PS3, and since the majority of kids could only have one of them, it did feel like you had an emotional stake in your console because you had that FOMO from the other console. That FOMO is what devolved into people really protecting and validating *their console* because they didn't really have the emotional maturity to realise that both consoles had their pros and cons. Unfortunately it seems many adults still haven't developed that maturity to this day.
Dude commented before watching 3 minutes in. Throwing expensive hardware in a landfill before selling it or giving it away is absolutely trashy, rich or not 😂
It’s only expensive nowadays, got my GameCube and ps2 at a garage sale and a gamecrazy for like 30$ back then and you can find cheap ass games at pawn shops for like 7$-10$. The modern video games market is simply ruled by the juggernauts of console owners, and the endless frontier that is pc Also, your family shouldn’t affect what you spend your money on, people enjoy video games and it’s something I want to show to my kids, it’s taught me so much about things like empathy and even making me smarter and more well spoken. sure they can be violent and sexy, but I think I was introduced at the right age cause I only saw them as games, as escape. Videogames are cool af
7:03 I agree 100% besides the 360, that thing was revolutionary growing up in the 00s and to this day still the only generation that Xbox really felt like it was dominating over PlayStation
Yeah, the 360 really felt like this everything machine for awhile since the PS3 had an insanely rough launch. The crazy part is that the PS3 actually still barely managed to outsell the 360, which doesn’t sound like it makes sense based on how people everywhere always seemed to have a 360, but then you remember Xbox might as well not exist overseas, and therefore the PS3 had free reign in those markets
The most simplistic feature I loved about the X360 back in the day was the ability to rip music CDs on to the HDD and listen to background music while playing my games. Loved that.
I'am glad that exclusives have kind of died down. Now it's mostly just timed (usually ~6 months) if a game is exclusive. And usually it's only console exclusive now (meaning released only on PS or Xbox but also PC same day, and maybe the other console later). The more people that have access to a game they want to try the better. I'll never understand people that get mad at things like Sony bringing games to PC or Microsoft releasing games on PS5 etc.
I have to cheapest version of hardware from the BIG THREE just to have all bases covered. It may not be the best possible experience, but it’s the widest swathe
When the Series X and PS5 came out, I did the math and making a PC that matched the Series X in power was over $2000... so I ended up buying both consoles ( I didn't pay scalped prices) and I have enjoyed both of them a lot. I play on the Xbox the most because of gamepass, but for the Sony games I have enjoyeed them a lot since I didn't have a PS4. Just saying... these machines are good machines. And I usually shit on anyone who is starting console wars things because I enjoy both...

I remember back in the day I had a Gamecube and a buddy had a PS2, and we were always stoked to go to each other's houses to play the other's games we didn't have access to. Even then the "console wars" seemed so strange to me, that level of brand loyalty does nothing but arbitrarily limit you. I maintain if you are over 16 and engage in fanboyism, maybe take a step back and ask yourself "why is this that important to me?" and when you can't answer that with any reasonable answer, maybe try checking out a good game from "the other side" once in a while.
Yo your username is epic. I was also born in 87 and used to make fun of Marth being Darth Marth anytime I played Melee with the homies.
Graphically vastly different and library wise.... I loved that the Gamecube tried to cater to more adult audience while still being a Ninetendo family experience.

The fact he had to make this video is wild. People are just angry all the time for no reason.
I don’t think I saw a single comment that was upset, which I find super confusing because it’s all everyone else seems to see.
I also feel like I’m the only one who is just sick of this meme now. Never felt ‘angry’, just kinda bored of it being the only thing Max seems to joke about lately. Much prefer the fun and good vibes videos, memeing on a console is getting weirdly overdone at this point. Don’t understand the longevity and it’s just a bit tedious now imo.

"22 years old with 16-17 years of experience."
That cracked me up.
22 years old of the second term.
Sometimes I wonder if most of his viewers actually know just how old Max and the gang are.
As a kid I would always scrape funds or beg for a console for birthdays or Christmas because I wanted the games coming out for it. I’ve pretty much always followed games and ended up getting most consoles in that generation since the PS2 because I love games, period. Couldn’t agree more!
Was really hoping this video ended with Max lifting up his PS5 over his head to show it was fine, then 'accidentally' dropping and destroying it.
I just love how this was framed as a typical TH-camr apology video at first.
I think the console tribalism comes from access. People don’t want to feel bad that they don’t have one, or feel troubled that they can no longer get their game on their console (and perhaps can’t justify getting the new one)
KH fans have been through it
Nah exclusives used to mean something.

On the other note, I'm glad I'm not the only one that loves games and wants them to be better every year...
Even when it was revealed at TGA, his friends were like "Bro you just bought that system..."
Granted, Max is probably in a way higher tax bracket than the average person, and spending his life playing video games as work and making money off it gives him a much better opportunity to make meaningless purchases like that.

Ngl. This is one of my favorite videos you’ve done, Max. Very well spoken and I completely agree. ❤
All those CoD players had to buy XBoxes and suddenly they're selling as much or more consoles than Sony.
as an unc i can 100000% agree even on this platform the critics are just pushing there naratives whilist not giving actual pros and cons of what there reviewing/talking about
Max needs to rebrand to 'No! Videogames!'

And funny how the death of the Bayonetta series wasn't 2 but its sequel, which is still a good game but has a TERRIBLE ending.

How could Nic Cage lie to us like this
7:03 I agree 100% besides the 360, that thing was revolutionary growing up in the 00s and to this day still the only generation that Xbox really felt like it was dominating over PlayStation

I wish politicians were as honest as Max is being right now 😂 👏🏽
When the Series X and PS5 came out, I did the math and making a PC that matched the Series X in power was over $2000... so I ended up buying both consoles ( I didn't pay scalped prices) and I have enjoyed both of them a lot. I play on the Xbox the most because of gamepass, but for the Sony games I have enjoyeed them a lot since I didn't have a PS4. Just saying... these machines are good machines. And I usually shit on anyone who is starting console wars things because I enjoy both...
Well said. I am a gamer so I want all the platforms. Starting console wars is childish behavior.
Yup. It's just about the games
I've bought pretty much every major console except the Wii U since the N64/PS/Dreamcast era, as well as multiple PCs. No loyalty to a company that doesn't give a shit about me. I just wanna play all the games.
Idk who in the hell you talked to or what research you did that told you $2000 was needed for a pc to match a ps5 or Xbox but they lied to you heavy.
@@Wyynter back in 2020? absolutely they were, nowadays that is not the case but that is the reality of technology. You can still find articles about how much it costed to make an equivalent PC back then as we were during the chip shortage
The truth, or clickbait? That, is the question.
The no kissing homies statement, truth or clickbait?
Truth, i was the PS5 Pro
Having a favourite console company is like having a favourite car company, you don't just choose the best car on paper, if a Toyota never let you down, it's normal to stick with the brand and have allegiance to it. So same with consoles
I think people mainly were disappointed about Bayonetta leaving the other systems was because it was going to WiiU at the time and like no one had that console and people didn't wanna buy it just to play that XD
You know Max you really should try to be a comedian with some of the stuff you do for your channel always great entertainment and fun to watch.

Max: “So I drove to target and got another ps5 pro not once or twice wrecking the door in the process.”
Target: “This guy again.”
