Hello I am a professional garage door Tech. If you want to get ride of your 30 second timer problem 1st disconnect the photo eyes completely then 2nd run a wall control wire to a wall control button and PRESTO all you do now is just simply hold down the wall control button for as long as you would like to run the opener motor head...
CAUTION though All opener motors have a over heating sensor inside and if ran for too long it will stop working. Over ride that by unplugging for a bit though ;)
Hope this helps you all God Bless!

Thanks for the info. on the button. I will most likely leave mine the way it is (seems fine), but others that want to build this can try your suggestion. Thanks again !

Can this crush different size cans? Here in UK we get 330ml 440ml and 500ml, soda and beer

I did exactly the same except I put a bigger fan on the motor for cooling. Works well and crushes the cans nicely.

    Hi Homestead Tech,
I like how you’ve used a garage door motor. I’ve got a spare one, now I’ve found a use for it. Cheers

Hello Bruce; Thanks for the note! Also, note that I put a fan on mine to cool it, but I think most people will probably not need this. Cheers !

Would a 1/3 HP motor be strong enough to crush cans or should I stick with a 1/2 HP motor? Thanks for the advice!

Also... IF you don't like to hold down the button the whole time then . . AS long as you have ran the wall button wire then just twist the two ends of the wall button wire together and it over rides the button pushing and is basically hot wired :) ANYWAYS if you have a question let me know I'll be checking back here

Hello Tomas; Check me previous reply. It should be able to crush the can down to about 1.5 inches.

Can you tell me why. I don't know what is wrong. It doesn't have the strength to smash the can

Hello; There is a force adjustment on all the sears (and probably other brands) of openers. Check the manual on line. It usually involves using a screwdriver to turn an adjustment on the side of the opener to increase the force. I suspect that is the issue you are having. Hope this helps.

Do you have info. on the metal parts used that are from home depot ?

    • @homesteadtech2501
      @homesteadtech2501  2 ปีที่แล้ว

The metal bar used (which goes from the opener to the chain wheel, and is also used for the rotating arm) is home depot flat plate steel 36x2x3/16. The large bolts used are home depot hex bolts zinc 5/8 x 6 (or less than 6 if needed). The other various nuts and bolts and washers are "as needed" from depot to build the unit.

What are the parts of this can crusher?

    • @homesteadtech2501

Hello Mark; The wood parts are common 2x4, 2x2 and 4x4 lumber. The plywood is standard 3/4 inch thick wood. I attached the wood parts together with 2 1/2 or 1 5/8 deck screws. The opener is a common sears door opener. The bike chain wheel came off a thrift shop bike (as did the chain), but I believe any old bike could be made to work using the Home Depot plumbing parts I mentioned. The metal plates and large nuts and bolts, caster wheels, washers, and electrical parts, all came from Home Depot. Hope this list helps !
