best homemade can smasher!

  • this is a can smasher that does not limit you to how cans are loaded, works quickly and VERY efficiently. It was made with parts I had laying around, an old tired 1 HP motor and some tires and wheels a neighbor left behind when they left. The only thing I had to buy, besides welding wire, was the bolts to hold the rims onto the trailer axle hubs.

That is extremely efficient, one of the best can crushers on TH-cam.

He has it running at the PERFECT SPEED I think. Fast enough for some momentum but slow enough it won't fly apart and end up in the next county.
Some others on TH-cam go WAY to FAST!!! I would not want to be around them when they fly apart. This one HERE will work for YEARS!!! He should put some paint on it and some "guards" from moving parts and call it "Art". It looks like it has been up and running for a WHILE already. Hard to tell outside.

@@hurlrules1 I agree with your assessment of Mr. AW, but also it wouldn't be too difficult to fashion a hopper that feeds a conveyor to feed the spinning tires. The size of the hopper isn't really limited, the size/speed of the conveyor controls the loading to the tires. Might need another motor--or could run multiple drives from the one motor. Depends on the scraps one can find to work with eh?

I've watched a lot of can crushing videos recently trying to get some ideas and as they say, the simple ideas are often the best. This machine has to be one of the simplest yet easiest machines to use crushes I've seen so far, and does a pretty darn good job too!

I would have to agree with you, this is so simple to to do, and a lot quicker. There is a lot of good ideas out there, and a lot are very complicated in their set up and running, but as I said, this is simple to use, and sometimes those ideas are the best.
