    So about a month ago I started a run of interviews that I wasn't quite sure I was going to do until the last minute because I knew that my granddaughter would be born sometime in May. Things worked out to where I could make it to the Farb Fest after she was born and get my first run of interviews started for this year. I had been on the road for about a week and a half prior to getting to Mike. I was hoping I could do a little dance with Mike to his theme song and make a personal appearance in this video with him. So I grew a beard in anticipation of this and because it seemed fitting now that I'm a grandfather. I also wanted Mike to play a little song since like me he is a musician. And I thought it would be cool if he whipped something up in the kitchen dressed silly to fit his fun personality into the mix. But he is such a busy guy! Every day of the week it seems he has something athletic to engage in plus family and friends to juggle and of course his TH-cam channel to keep running. So we had just enough time to fit this interview in pretty tight within his schedule!
    That run of interviews started with a 15-hour drive from home to Kansas where I was for about a week, then Iowa, Chicago, Michigan, Ohio, Kentucky, and Tennessee before returning back to North Carolina. It was one of my most productive runs getting about 31 interviews in the can. A half dozen of those interviews were restaurants that were in route. I noticed a pattern of success stories that galvanized these restaurants into existence as a way of giving back to their community and educating others.
    I need to thank my friend Jessica Lannine, Huyen Tran, Shanti, and Mike for helping along the way to make this a more productive run than usual. Typically I have to do this completely alone which really can wear me down emotionally. But this time I was able to stay out of a dark place with friends to interact with along the way and help here and there. Anywho, I hope this interview with magic Mike turned out good enough considering how awesome he is and how starstruck I was making it a little more challenging than usual. Thanks for watching and commenting! I really hope I can break 100,000 subscribers this year. It's a dream of mine to get that youtube plaque! But more importantly reach as many people as I can. I have some exciting content I'm looking forward to transitioning into later this year. But before I begin moving in that very honed in direction I still have quite a few more interviews to get out of the way that will be nice to set the premise for what's to come! 💚

    I became vegan last year, whilst in recovery from cancer. I ate less and less meat (concerned about the links with cancer) and then came across research that suggested a link between dairy and breast cancer. Watching Mic, this channel, PlantChomper and Ed Winters and other vegan influencers who know the research helped me see that a vegan diet was not only good for my health, it was good for the planet and for the animals. Its the animals who keep me on the vegan path - I might take 'risks' for enjoyment but not at the expense of another's life. Its going great!

    The first thing people believe that stop them from going vegan is the simple belief that you need protein to survive. This would imply that if you don’t eat meat you are going to die or be seriously disabled before death. I personally checked my own pulse for two weeks after going vegan as I thought maybe I was gonna miraculously have a random heart attack because I stopped eating meat, understanding and compassion can help us educate, Carbs FTW!! 💪💪💪

      :) lol that's what's up! you're not kidding! A teenager/football player came by my house the other day trying to sell bug spray. I said "no thanks, I'm vegan and try not to kill things". He was so surprised that I was alive. It was as if he thought vegan was synonymous with being dead. He ended up asking me every question in the book! We ended up talking about 30 minutes and he didn't bring up the bug spray at all anymore. It was so much fun showing him all the different athletes I've interviewed and being able to respond to everything he asked. I really look forward to doing street activism one day when I have get caught up. I later thought it would be so cool to cross paths again with him in like ten years and see if our conversation had any impact on his life. :)

    Mike is a very nice person that inspired me to go Whole Foods plant based along with McDougall, Esselstyn And doctors like greger.
    I fixed my cholesterol when I was 48 which was seven years ago. It was so dramatic dropping from 210 to 120 in my weight drop 50 pounds. My blood pressure dropped to normal and so did my resting heart rate. Both were controlled by a previously medication, but I don’t have to take any longer.
    This can be done by almost anyone with those types of issues with Dr. supervision of course.
    I’m still healthy although my diastolic is 83 which it should be less than 80 so it’s slightly elevated my waist to hip is at or possibly even slightly above .5 and I always like to keep that below .5 which is an indicator of good health.

    would it be good to replace rice with another 255 gram serving of beans? i like beans way more than rice but i eat rice cuz i hear whole grain helthy would it be healthier to eat more beans instead? i would love that

    • @VeganLinked
      @VeganLinked  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I try getting a variety of grains and legumes. I don't eat a lot of rice, I eat kamut, groat oats, farro, etc. and save rice for when I'm eating out or eating an amy's enchilada dish and for legumes I try to eat lentils, black beans, soy, etc...
      While worrying about food combining may or may not be really all that necessary, it's said that between legumes and grains you get a nice balanced dose of all the amino acids/proteins you need. I tend to eat grains for breakfast and legumes for lunch/diner. Dr Greger's daily dozen ap is free and backed by some pretty comprehensive nutritional science. I think he recommends getting 3 servings of each, although, that seems like a lot for me. But I probably do good getting a balance. I don't weigh what I eat, I did for a bit when I was toying with Bryan Johnson's diet. I may try again. But, I think learning to eat intuitively, not too much, not too late is key. A lot of things seem to be pointing at breakfast being most important and lunch being really more like dinner and cutting off early is ideal. Like Dr Greger says, breakfast like a king, lunch like a prince, and dinner like a pauper. But, I'm beginning to think skip dinner if you're not hungry 4 to 6 hours before going to bed. Bryan Johnson cuts off at 2 pm I think. The 100 year old Dr. John Scharffenberg does the same thing. Even Sadh Guru says going to bed hungry can solve most of our problems :)

    • @VeganLinked
      @VeganLinked  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

    • @VeganLinked
      @VeganLinked  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      cool, we don't really know what that means it means to increase omega 3 serum levels but I can only assume it translates into a good thing :)

    • @VeganLinked
      @VeganLinked  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      It would have been cool also to see if maybe just making some changes in your diet would have done the trick. I actually ordered the omega-3 tests from Dr Fuhrman. But I want to take more than one test and get results from different Labs to see how consistent they are. And it would be also neat to Do this after consistently consuming whole plant foods properly for at least 6 months. And then test again after another 6 months or a year of adding things like chlorella and other sources of potentially long chain fatty acids. And then based on all of these results consider doing a supplement and testing again after 6 months. But again I don't really know if increasing serum levels translates into something meaningful for your heart or brain. I say this because Dr Tim Radak has done extensive research on this and I have a video several years old now that explains the science from his Research and perspective and conclusion was if you eat whole plant foods you'll likely be fine even with low conversion and even without trying to get certain omega-3 rich foods. But there's so much controversy around this topic that it's hard to know for certain what to make of it all. And I'm not really all that certain there are studies that have thoroughly hashed out the difference between somebody eating a proper whole Food vegan diet and someone supplementing and comparing the two for long-term Health outcomes. And maybe even comparing them to say a pescatarian...

There's no reason to needlessly harm animals because you can't figure out how to be more creative with legumes, greens, grains, fruits, veggies, mushrooms, nuts, seeds, herbs and spices and a variety of each. It's better for you to develop a sophisticated palette rather than a lazy one that requires body parts, organs and secretions. And it's also better for the animals, the environment, etc. There are vegan yogurts. But you can also learn to go to sleep without having to eat something first. It's probably not a healthy habit. But if you don't care about health then that doesn't matter I suppose. Try learning to make food about health and fuel to do great things. It's May involve going to bed on an empty stomach And getting the bulk of your calories in the morning. Like Dr Greger says eat breakfast like a king, lunch like a prince, and dinner like a pauper 🙂 let me know if you have any more questions! And please don't take offense to what I'm saying I'm just trying to be straight up! Hope you have a beautiful day And learn to love things that love back

      @@vickenbastajian2369 Don't get me wrong, there is a learning curve for everybody. Even I am learning ways to step up my game constantly. There's really nothing better to invest in than my health and impact on others. So I enjoy the challenges 💚 once you go vegan though really there's no turning back because it's an ethical, moral obligation that makes you vegan and then you find a way to make the diet and lifestyle work.

      @@VeganLinked Plants are sentient, or have plant-specific sentience, because they have complex sensory systems and exhibit traits associated with personhood.
      Growing fruits and vegetables requires the mass use of pesticides to kill millions (closer to BILLIONS) of birds and other animals to prevent them from destroying crops. Harvesting these crops, meanwhile, maims or kills field mice and other animals caught in the path of the machines.
      So unless you never shop for food, you can stop with the killing/hurting notion.

    I like Mic but that first 15 seconds made me want to gag.
    Why does it matter why you went vegan, Mic stating "selfish reasons". Who cares? The outcome is still the same.
    That kind of talk is what turns some people off to even talking about veganism and implies that if you don't do it for the right reason you are inferior.
    If someone is not eating animals, wearing animals, etc. why would it matter if are about their lives being of higher importance? You can be vegan without falling into the trap of thinking that animals and humans are equal. Dare I quote the vegan society definition of veganism? No, I shall:
    ""Veganism is a philosophy and way of living which seeks to exclude-as far as is possible and practicable-all forms of exploitation of, and cruelty to, animals for food, clothing or any other purpose; and by extension, promotes the development and use of animal-free alternatives for the benefit of animals, humans and the environment. In dietary terms it denotes the practice of dispensing with all products derived wholly or partly from animals.""
    You can do all of those things all the while caring about your health and your family's health first.
    They aren't mutually exclusive or one path being superior to the other when the ultimate end is exactly the same - less suffering, no more wasting land space for feed crops and livestock grazing. No overfishing anymore. No raising animals for their pelts to wear or their meat to eat.
    Literally trillions of lives spared via either path.

      Your logic doesn't appear consistent, how is doing it for selfish reasons something that's going to turn people off? Other people have done it for selfish reasons, for example Chef Babette, a lot of people are very vain. How is wanting to protect yourself against getting Alzheimer's something that would turn people off?

      I don't know why you feel the need to quote the definition of veganism, do you really think we don't know what the definition is? I mean he goes into the ethical component which is very much implied in the definition of veganism. Maybe if you get past the first 15 seconds you will understand things better. It's pretty odd that you felt like you needed to share the definition of veganism here. I guess you think this is the first video I've ever made and I've only been vegan a week or something... Perhaps you should dig a little deeper before commenting on people's videos. I have a format and I have it for a reason if you don't like it, again maybe you should start your own channel. It's a very obvious thing for me to do, ask people why they went vegan. There was even a pamphlet made by vegan outrage called "why vegan" that helped many people go vegan explaining why people go vegan. When people understand why people do things they have the ability to consider doing those things. Please spare me the negativity, I do all this on my own and it's a lot of work. Apparently you don't appreciate it but about 86,000 other people do. No one ever pleases everyone. I get thousands of comments, many of which are people who are not vegan being very negative. So no more negativity please.

      The question of why fits perfectly with the title "How Mic Removed His Meat Goggles" definitely benefits from setting this up with why he went vegan.

      I care. I have watched mic's videos for years and hearing his background stuff was interesting to me. Also selfish isn't inherently a bad thing. In this case it was making the point of coming to it in a way different from many vegans. I think it odd that it was so repellent to anyone, but ok.
      I also don't give two cents about the official definition. I have my own ethos. I do think that nonhumans are equal to humans in that all have a right to live as they would.

    In another vegan interview this woman told the story of vegans who were very ethical and they were into streets out reach work and saving animals yet these people returned to eat meat now they are no long vegan it is really strange and scary to think they believed in being vegan and did not want to cause animals to suffer now they have turned their backs on been vegan and now they have gone back to been a meat eating and drinking milk products.

      @@VeganLinked that’s quite a lot of unwarranted anger directed at me, it seems? Unfortunately, most vegans DO slide back, we have the studies. Just like most keto heads do and, in fact, most people who are not one way or another in line with society’s existing norms. And yes, at some point in time, every now and then there comes a push for a change in society, after which new generations are raised in this new reality and therefore form the basis of this new, slightly better society. And often changes for the good coincide with the improved circumstances / standard of living. Just like humans, en masse, turn to crime when their conditions are bad and stop committing crimes when their conditions improve (situational need / opportunity is the factor that is statistically correlated the most with prevalence of crime). These are the averages. Still, there’s always a minority that goes against the grain and vegans today is one such minority. But for it to become a majority, I bet it will be due to governments too afraid to challenge the oil industry but willing to promote plant based eating to fight climate change just like they did with recycling. Ethics will be a distant third or fourth consideration. Which is fine as long as most people do the switch and the animal product industry dies or almost dies
