I thought it was absolutely hilarious how Tim Burton was like, "they say I don't put black people in my films? Well, I'll show them!" And it's a literal soul train line, and the one Asian dude owns a dry cleaning store in the afterlife. 😂
Monica Bellucci's absolutely gorgeous- this is the first time I've ever seen her before. Her first moment with the BeeGees playing it was excellent. I just wish that she would've had more of a storyline.
speaking of Monica Bellucci, she played a great villain in this 2018 Australian ghost/demon film called Nekrotronic (it's really fun) definitely worth checking out.
I went to go see Beetlejuice Beetlejuice on the Thursday of opening night and i was so nervous going into this movie because I'm a huge fan of the original movie, i remember discovering the original Beetlejuice movie on VHS at my aunt's house back in the early 2000s when i was like 6 or 7 years old and i fell in love with the original movie so going into Beetlejuice Beetlejuice i was nervous but i ended up really really enjoying this movie and is it as great as the original No but that's an extremely tall order and expectation and there is some things i wish they did differently and this movie didn't feel as dark and twisted as the first movie which kind of bothered me but again that's my own expectation and that's not the movies fault , this movie is so much fun and I can't wait to buy this on Blu-ray 🙌
Until a studio makes a stand on a good movie and lets it stay in theaters for a while before putting it out everywhere else... the theater business will continue to decline. Imagine the days of yore when movies stayed in theaters for 3-6 months before hitting the mass markets, oh how it would cause a stir. 🤣
I just love the look of Tim Burton's movies. Even if they don't do well. I even like Dark Shadows. Ya, I said it. As for Beetlejuice Beetlejuice, I would have been pleased if they just removed every Justin Theroux scene. I thought he added nothing. I was bored every time he was on screen.
I agree with Justin’s scenes. He’s not on the same acting/charisma level as the other stars and didn’t deserve to be in this movie. He dragged it down some.
I liked some moments here and there. I just didn't find myself being invested in the story. Nice to see you being a fan of Elfman's music. Same here. I like his band Oingo Boingo even though the song Little Girls is.... yeah...
I just can't consume criticism from anyone under 30. Yall just don't have the media/cultural framework to understand anything related to late 20th century
Willem Dafoe's character was a comedy vacuum, speaking of vacuums all poor Monica Bellucci got to do was literally suck. Pointless devito cameo. Love Catherine O'hara but the script she was given was crap. The whole thing just wasn't very funny. Ironically as someone who grew up with the original in the 80's I think Jenna Ortega's performance was the highlight.
Beetlejuice was more lovable in 😂this one, I love how they made the villain, actually the hero, and you want him to return to help them out, like in the afterlife he's the man you wanna have around. But I will say I'm so tired of everybody saying oh not as good as the first one, never will be blah blah blah. I don't think that's fair because it'll never be able to be as original as the first. But despite that, I think the second one was better as well; it improves in every way that we needed it to, I only gripe is the several subplot issues but, it can be forgiven
I wish I enjoyed it more. I just feel like there were too many plot lines that were just very surface level and resolved in an instant. I also don’t think the comedy was very good or consistent throughout the movie. I agree that Jenna Ortega’s character was more dynamic. I was just very underwhelmed and I can’t say this is a return to form for Tim Burton, just an okay sequel to a beloved movie.
I think they missed a golden opportunity when they put Monica back together. They should have left the finger off because Beetlejuice still has it “she meant nothing to me babe” This was a good movie just a bit too much going on IMO. Great job on the costume!
I was also conflicted on Jeffrey Jones. You can't NOT acknowledge Charles Deetz, but at the same time...it did feel weird seeing so much of him given his past. I get that you have to honor the character because of the movies popular history but it just felt...awkward? I don't know.
I was marveled by how the beetle baby was brought into view, he resembles Chucky’s son he has no idea coexisted. Could ideally have his own spin-off movie. And maybe, Danny Devito should’ve had a larger part lol
Think I actually liked it more than the first, I don't have much nostalgia for the first one, only saw a few years ago and by then I was already very familiar with Tim Burton, I think this movie might be a return to form for him though, could have been a miniseries to add to some of the sideplots but that might have cheapened the movie, works well as it is
Wow! I had no idea about Willem Dafoe being in the upcoming Nosferatu film. It's funny, because he played Nosferatu/Max Shreck in the film Shadow of the Vampire. If you haven't heard of it, you should look it up. The premise is pretty wild.
Went and Saw Beetlejuice Beetlejuice last week going into it didn't have any high expectations. Cause while I'd did enjoy the original one quite a bit learn about the origins of the Maitland family Played by geena Davis, Alex Baldwin as well as, Beetlejuice Michael Keaton only made appearances when he's called or summoned, Catherine O'Hara Delia young Winona Ryder as Lydia Dietz it's been awhile since I last watched it. After viewing it the sequel coincides with storytelling and character portrayal very nicely. Gave off a pretty interesting villain played by Monica bellucci. Very spooky creepiest, chaotic vibes alongside a very haunting, chilling atmosphere. Loved the visuals which showcase of the afterlife; a literal soul train line, also the music gave me nostalgic vibes not as good as the original but i enjoyed it a lot.
A+ on the costume. Went to see Beetlejuice, Beetlejuice last week. Was actually the first time in a couple years since I went to a movie theatre. Really thought it was a great "Fall" movie & definitely recommend.
I loved the first movie as a kid. It's still fun as an adult but it's not the greatest movie ever and definitely not for everyone. Beetlejuice Beetlejuice is exactly the same. Tim Burton films are for the strange and unusual. I myself am strange and unusual.
Definitely agree with you on Jenna Ortega's character Astrid deetz felt very generic, recycled, redundant, plain surface level nothing relatively going on with her at the very least to make me care what could happen with her. The script should've been written better for her.
It's been an interesting experience for me as I hadn't seen the 1988 movie until last month! 😂😅 so I also don't have the nostalgia attached, there for I really enjoyed this 2024 film, it was just fun, where is my friends who adore the original really didn't like this film. My issues was too many plots and a lot of style over substance, also Burton still has issues with racial stereotypes or not casting people or colour. I loved Winona and Catherine so much and it was so great seeing them together, Michael was amazing too and so charismatic. Monica looked good but her character just went for a walk and that's it 😂😅 Overall I gave it 3 stars, it was a fun time ⭐️⭐️⭐️
I'm sure a lot of people will disagree with me, but I feel like this movie would have worked better if it was done as some kind of a mini-series. I only say that because I liked what they were trying to do with each of the individual subplots, but they all resolved themselves a little too conveniently and weren't fleshed out very much. I feel like they either should have cut some of the storylines while expanding on others, or made it into a limited series. Overall though I still had a lot of fun with this movie and it warmed my goth heart seeing all these characters again.
Nice recap.. haven't seen it yet but honestly don't care about being spoiled with this one.. I think Ortega has potential to be legit, I can see it simply bc of how she handled her success with Wednesday.. of course she has the star power but she's rarely in projects that showcases her abilities.. she currently gets cast for her name, I think she'll find true critical success when she's done with her current teen/pop bubble stage and ventures into more mature fare.. she tried with that film with Martin Freeman, which I haven't seen, but not sure if it's genuinely bad or is just too uncomfortable of a watch for her fans.. she's running a similar playbook as actresses in the past, interested to see what she's doing in 5 years.. will Wednesday be the peak or is it just the beginning of a special career? She's still young and only time will tell, but I'm rooting for her bc she seems down to earth and isn't a diva, and most importantly she has the talent.. just my perspective on her..
Morning Satan! You’re a real soul sucker! Saw and enjoyed it on opening weekend on IMAX, it hauled in $110 million for Tim Burton. He tied much of both films together on why Beetlejuice wanted to marry Lydia while protecting her daughter from him. You know how demons are lol! Recommend should see Michael Keaton in Mr. Mom and Gung Ho comedies before he played Beetlejuice.
I was a teenager when the original Beetlejuice came out... What sold the movie for me was the special effects, there was nothing like it at the time. Some of the early jokes were funny too.
Love your Delores makeup 🤩 I wasn't a fan of the first Beetlejuice either, even though when I was in elementary school they would show it to us once in a while, I just had no interest in it. So I was pleasantly surprised that I enjoyed the sequel more! I went to see it in Ultra AVX (my first time), and it made the experience so much better!!
Tim Burton had a unique visual style reminiscent of Edward Gorey. I really liked Beetlejuice because it flipped the script on haunted houses. Um, what if the living are more sedated than the dead? The sequel was ok. Just didn’t add anything. The ending was a total WTF?!? Time to re-watch the Beetlejuice cartoon.
ugh you’re always so right 🙏 i have the exact same feelings about the original and sequel as you! i’ve never been able to get over the perverted nature of the first film, and i just loved the vibes of this new one! had low expectations and was pleasantly surprised
MY TOP 10 TIM BURTON MOVIES….. (Personal list) 1. Mars Attacks 2. Batman Returns 3. Corpse Bride 4. Beetlejuice Beetlejuice 5. Nightmare Before Christmas 6. Beetlejuice 7. Sleepy Hollow 8. FrankenWeenie 9. Alice 10. Dark Shadows.
Interesting list. I like Batman Returns. Surprised to see no Edward Scissorhands, which I would put ahead of both Beetlejuice movies, but we all have our opinions.
It also took me a while for me to watch Beetlejuice since I'm also late 90's kid too but I did grow up on loving some Tim Burton movies like Charlie and the Chocolate Factory and both Batman movies. And while the writing is not really it for me on the Batman movies, much like with a lot of Burton's movies, I always love the amazing visuals, practical effects and interesting concepts he put in his movies. Looking back on the original, I sometimes forget some of the problematic jokes and stuff that were in it. But to be fair, a lot of the reason why I rewatch it back is really due to how much I love Winona Ryder and her whole aesthetic. I'm definitely planning on watching the second one, especially after knowing some of the other cast members that are in it like Defoe, Bellucci, and Jenna Ortega. I'm actually really happy how far Jenna has come since I remember a bit of what she did when she was on Disney and to see where she is now and the projects she's done, I'm so here for it! Thanks so for great review. Loved the makeup and fit you had in this and also unrelated but I love the Mermaid Man and Barnacle Boy costume you and Scott had on in your recent tweet
hahaha thank you we had fun with that one. I discovered Jenna Ortega in the second Babysitter movie and was like everyone better be looking out for this one
Exactly. Plus it just felt like way too many plot points were going on and some just got wrapped up almost instantly without much payoff or resolve. Beetle juice’s ex Lydia having to marry him The family drama with Astrid The ghost who wants to use Astrid to come back to life only to get sent to hell instantly The guy with Lydia just for her money and seeing her ability as bullshit Like pick a plot 😵💫
I really love your Delores costume. You could be a stunt double for Monica. Looks so beautiful on you. I did not really expect Beetlejuice to have a Anti-hero like role after being the Ataganist in the first.
Yeah I always said it myself that I don't see me watching this movie or the original. Beetlejuice has always been repulsive to me, just overly annoying and disgusting
I couldnt decide if I liked the movie or not. The ackward teenage romance stuff made me want to get up and leave lol Weirdly enough i think this movie wouldve slapped as a tv show instead of a movie, so it could've fleshed out the several plots more
I have not seen the movie. But I do remember an interview of Tim burton when he was being asked about the making a sequel. He said that the story of the beetlejuice is done and that he would not make a sequel for it.
Nice review! It’s really interesting to see the more older Tim Burton do a sequel to one of his earliest movies when he was a young guy. It’s not his first sequel, that’s Batman returns, but I feel Tim Burton now is a different artist than he was then but still has the same tastes. Catherine O’Hara really stole the show for me! Everytime she was on screen, my friends and I thought of her in schitts creek! It’s a good show and she’s in it with all the same manic energy she brought here! My only thing about this movie is that it was over stuffed. I hate to say it but you could’ve cut out both Monica Bellucci and willem dafoes characters are really not miss much lol she was hot and he was funny but ultimately went nowhere. They probably could’ve cut the whole Lydia being married again subplot too. SPOILERS I liked the dead kid trying to trick her daughter to coming back to life. I feel if they mainstreamed that storyline, at one point he could go berserk and become like the new BEETLEJUICE since that’s what the original beetlejuice was trying to do with marrying Lydia. And then the og returns and it’s a duel between the two juices hahah it would make sense why the movie’s called beetlejuice beetlejuice, you get two for the price of one! I gotta say I never seen a scene like when they flashback to what happened to Lydia’s dad! It was cool stop motion animation and he was in the movie for a surprising amount of time! Loved how they handled it tho lol also I knew you were gonna hate the Lydia pregnancy gag, I did too! Like ugh lol Overall, I enjoyed this movie and feel like the cast really killed it with the performances! Burton says he won’t do a third but he left it open on this one so I’m hoping that’s BS lol thank you my stunning, spooky Delores queen for the review! Also the song during the wedding scene is called MacArthur park but you need to hear the weird AL parody, Jurassic Park! lol
I hate to break it to you, but Elfman has accusations against him. I don't understand why they would let him be involved unless they are waiting for a conviction? I've enjoyed a lot of his scores, especially Batman 1989.
This movie was NOT targeted towards children. That's AFTERWARDS, when they made a cartoon FOR children. I CANNOT believe you aren't obsessed with this movie. I guess you just had to be there, in the 80s.🙄
If you check out my deep dive, Burton explicitly says children are better at understanding his movies than adults so that’s a major target audience for him
@@HauntedHippie That may be true, but I'm still confused about how you feel about Beetlejuice. He's supposed to be a seedy character. Thats kinda what's supposed to be funny about him. He's like that guy selling fake passports in a dark alley. You don't wanna trust him but you have no other choice. Then once you do, only shit ensues and that's funny. It's like, ugh, I never should have listened to this used car salesman. I have not seen the new one cuz ally friends told me NOT to. They SAY, it's lost all it's charm. I'm scared to go cuz I'm a SUPER FAN of the original. Horror fan that you are, you're seriously that offended by Beetle juice being seedy, lewd and vulgur? He's the villain...
I was pissed off in the movie that it was going to be the standard all people want kids and start family bs and theres never any childfree representation but at least it was to make a joke.
As far as my personal opinion about them using his character still so prominently in the film though: I get it. It was slightly uncomfortable seeing his face. But I also get why they did it. His character was such a big part of the original, and i feel like it would have been kind of a copout for them to not be able to access the character in the afterlife due to real world circumstances. I feel like they did the best they could with the shitty hand they were dealt with that character, without either celebrating the actor or ignoring/trying to bury the character (pun intended).
I went to go see this movie on the first day it came out on the Thursday afternoon. I've finally watched the original movie the night before the sequel came out and I should've watched it sooner. It came out before I was born and the original movie was so fun to watch. I kinda like the sequel a little better tho. Btw did Beetlejuice's ex wife gave u Mortisha Addams vibes? She gave that fight and if they ever fight, I wonder who would win.
I didn't like the baby beetlejuice gags, hard agree with this whole review. Will add that I found the whole Soul Train concept weird and low-key a bit racist? Like bro we want to see you use Black Actors but like actually give them a role don't rely on stereotypes for a gag?
Love love LOVE this review. I agree with everything lol. I just loved how practical everything was and I’m so glad we spent so much time in the afterlife and you’re so right, Delia was the funniest. I also loved that this felt more like a horror. I personally didn’t like the dream sequence at the end although baby beetlejuice was funny lol
First off I have to compliment you on the makeup. I know I’m not alone in saying that we appreciate the effort you put into these reviews. I’ve seen enough of your reviews to key into some of your mannerisms. You do well in articulating what you like and don’t like as much. So I tend to agree and understand a lot of what you’re reviewing. They should have left Jeffery jones likeness out of the movie. 🤨 Funny thing in the theater today is the train scene . I see the subway station, people dancing and I hear the music and I shout out in the Theater “ It’s Soul Train “ 🤣 1960s Saturday TV at 11am. Soul Train. Look it up. 🤔😁😊 I liked Mother, Daughter and Dad get together in the afterlife. That was touching for me. Oh, I could say so much more, but I went into it to have fun and I had fun. The final scene was weird but it may be something explained in another sequel. We shall see. 😉
Interesting fact I just found out. The scene at the end of the movie where Lydia has a nightmare about Astrid giving birth to a baby Beetlejuice is actually an homage to Geena Davis (since she was absent from the movie despite being a central figure of the first one). Geena Davis played Seth Brundle's girlfriend, Ronnie, in The Fly, and in that movie, she has a nightmare in which she gives birth to a giant maggot. It's still kind of an uncomfortable scene, but it's nice that it wasn't just put in there for the sake of a gag or shock value.
You look so… put together!
Hey thanks 😌
@@HauntedHippie great job just subscribed
This movie is like Dolores, it’s kind of stitched together, but it’s got a lot of style and is fun
I thought it was absolutely hilarious how Tim Burton was like, "they say I don't put black people in my films? Well, I'll show them!" And it's a literal soul train line, and the one Asian dude owns a dry cleaning store in the afterlife. 😂
I was hoping after the more diverse representation in Wednesday that we wouldn't backslide so far but alas
I think the whole thing with Charles Deetz was basically honoring the character, but **** the actor, hence his comedically morbid death.
Let's not forget Bob....Bob was great as always
We ride for Bob
Monica Bellucci's absolutely gorgeous- this is the first time I've ever seen her before. Her first moment with the BeeGees playing it was excellent. I just wish that she would've had more of a storyline.
There is a mistake in Beetlejuice Beetlejuice .Maria SKŁODOWSKA Curie was born Polish not French .
Fun fact: The baby idea was Jenna's idea lol, she's insane in the membrane.
I think the high point iconic moment of the original Beetlejuice is the possessed dinner table dance scene
speaking of Monica Bellucci, she played a great villain in this 2018 Australian ghost/demon film called Nekrotronic (it's really fun) definitely worth checking out.
Adding Jenna Ortega to this film was amazing
Her career if off the charts , she cute 😂😊

Whole story between Delores and Betlejuice was poorly executed, and that is main story, lol,so yeah, disapointment about waste of great potential.
Exactly. Plus it just felt like way too many plot points were going on and some just got wrapped up almost instantly without much payoff or resolve.
Beetle juice’s ex
Lydia having to marry him
The family drama with Astrid
The ghost who wants to use Astrid to come back to life only to get sent to hell instantly
The guy with Lydia just for her money and seeing her ability as bullshit
Like pick a plot 😵💫
I really love your Delores costume. You could be a stunt double for Monica. Looks so beautiful on you. I did not really expect Beetlejuice to have a Anti-hero like role after being the Ataganist in the first.
I'll eat a goddamn sandworm if the third one is called Beetlejuice Beetlejuice 2
Hopefully there won't be a 3rd one, but it's probably inevitable. I wouldn't watch however if, Tim Burton and Michael Keaton, are not involved.
I LOVED IT! ❤ Great review and I like the Beetlejuice ambiance in the background.
Yeah I always said it myself that I don't see me watching this movie or the original.
Beetlejuice has always been repulsive to me, just overly annoying and disgusting
Yeah 👍
I couldnt decide if I liked the movie or not. The ackward teenage romance stuff made me want to get up and leave lol Weirdly enough i think this movie wouldve slapped as a tv show instead of a movie, so it could've fleshed out the several plots more
Only you could pull off this look and do it as well as monica, perfect
Dolby gotta sponsor this channel. I've heard more about it from this channel than anywhere else
I have not seen the movie. But I do remember an interview of Tim burton when he was being asked about the making a sequel. He said that the story of the beetlejuice is done and that he would not make a sequel for it.
He never said that.
Love the 1st one....hated whatever this thing was.
1st movie sucks too
Nice review!
SPOILERS
I liked the dead kid trying to trick her daughter to coming back to life.
Like ugh lol
Overall, I enjoyed this movie and feel like the cast really killed it with the performances! Burton says he won’t do a third but he left it open on this one so I’m hoping that’s BS lol thank you my stunning, spooky Delores queen for the review!
Also the song during the wedding scene is called MacArthur park but you need to hear the weird AL parody, Jurassic Park! lol
damn now I'm a little more disappointed in the third act cuz I like your idea more lol
@@HauntedHippie right?! Would’ve redeemed the original ghost for sure
Love your videos , you always have a great take on movies its appreciated thanks!
For halloween Are you going as Beetlejuice?
I was pissed off in the movie that it was going to be the standard all people want kids and start family bs and theres never any childfree representation but at least it was to make a joke.
I love this movie and this video.
Doesn't quite side step the deja vu it inspires
I was looking forward to this. The make up was really cool too.
i haven’t seen it yet or any of them actually… r they good?😅
Great review and cosplay of Beetlejuice’s ex wife
Need a video of you ranking birth scenes in horror movies 😅
It was kinda awful. Had it's moments, but it was a snore fest
Awesome look!
It was fine for what it was, nostalgia bait.
Great costume😊
BJ is the bollocks!! Are you serious 👀
One and a half stars? I’m out.
Wonderful review 🤟
Looks like the movie left u in stitches😅
You look great
Love Catherine O’Hara great video:)
Skeetle juice
You look terrifying and cute at the same time.
Does your generation even know what that song in the church even is? Do you have any relationship to that song whatsoever...?
They might know it as the song that Apu's neice sings in a talent show in a 90s episode of The Simpsons.
Definitely morticia vibes
I didn't like the baby beetlejuice gags, hard agree with this whole review. Will add that I found the whole Soul Train concept weird and low-key a bit racist? Like bro we want to see you use Black Actors but like actually give them a role don't rely on stereotypes for a gag?
👻🧃🪲
I really don’t like the original movie. The human characters are so annoying.. 😂
No , it’s bad
Love love LOVE this review. I agree with everything lol. I just loved how practical everything was and I’m so glad we spent so much time in the afterlife and you’re so right, Delia was the funniest. I also loved that this felt more like a horror. I personally didn’t like the dream sequence at the end although baby beetlejuice was funny lol
True loved the baby itself, but the pregnancy stuff was wack for me 😂
First off I have to compliment you on the makeup.
Funny thing in the theater today is the train scene . I see the subway station, people dancing and I hear the music and I shout out in the Theater “ It’s Soul Train “ 🤣 1960s Saturday TV at 11am. Soul Train. Look it up. 🤔😁😊
I liked Mother, Daughter and Dad get together in the afterlife. That was touching for me.
Oh, I could say so much more, but I went into it to have fun and I had fun.
The final scene was weird but it may be something explained in another sequel. We shall see. 😉
Glad you enjoyed it too!
Thank you for not getting political in this one.
