    i have to tell you as part of this rc boating community i hope your channel grows to be 100 times bigger than most of the other rc boaters channels. you take the time to thoroughly break things down explain and teach people what others dont or wont. i wish you much success with this channel.

    FYI. FIBERGLAS RESIN does not stick to electrical tape . Good for those little holes on the hatch cover . I actually made a foam plug and covered the whole thing with the tape . Boat came right out .

      Good luck brother it's intimidating at first but once you get started on the project it goes pretty easily

    I'm going to make a mold for the Mystic/ miss geico 29 Canopy/cap. I have a question, should I cast a outside mold & a inside mold of the canopy? Or should I just cast an outside mold of it & lay in my CF & vacuum bag it? Just not sure what direction to go

    • @IRONCLADRC
      @IRONCLADRC  11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      You only need to mKe one mold, wax the outside of the hatch, then PVA, lay up the fiberglass, (several layers) then pull the mold from the hatch... WAX & PVA now you make the hatch with Carbon fiber usually 1 or 2 layers.

      @IRONCLADRC thanks for the tips! I'm slowly getting all my supplys together, I plan on trying to vacuum mold. If it turns our well, my next project will be to mold a Spartan & build a CF one.

    Years ago I was going to glass a foam jet and have ultra thin glass cloth..the glass you use is so much easier to work with..for making boat parts...I tried making a canopy for a wood rigger I built years ago..glass I used never hardened 😢...the stuff I have has to be exact 50/50...question..why can't you make a boat mould out of silicon? I watched a few videos on silicon mould making and to me it seems it would work well for small boats...thanks for sharing

    • @IRONCLADRC
      @IRONCLADRC  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I'm old school when it comes to mold Making I guess. I've seen the silicone process but I would think the mold would have a tendency to twist or warp.. I was taught the fiberglass process years ago when I worked in a boat yard.

    • @roadstar499
      @roadstar499 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@IRONCLADRC no for rc boat it would not twist ,warp or bend unless you forced it..silicon is solid..watch a couple of silicone videos...I am old school also but I have an open mind to new ideas and methods..

    You have a chance to use these molds to make a boat yet? Can't wait to see the difference between a submerged prop VS a stinger/surface drive. I have a very similar styled hull called the Northwind 40 that was popular back in the 70's. Mine is 32" long and very low profile like yours. Main difference is it also has a narrow flat bottom ride pad towards the rear of the hull. When I got the hull from my Dad, he had it set up as a submerged drive, but it never seemed to handle quite right. I removed the sub drive, and made a junky stinger, then removed all the nitro stuff to convert it to electric.

      Unfortunately I've put it on the back burner. I've been waiting for the weather to warm up, now that the weather is right I may get back on it. I actually cleaned the mold last week preparing & waxing the molds
