    Episode 6, Get Lost on Amtrak Series. Kelley takes the Southwest Chief from Chicago to Los Angeles.
    Well you know that I enjoyed my trips on Amtrak, but see why others love to take the train too. It was my first long train trip, and I found other newbies as well as avid train fans. They candidly tell us their favorite parts, their opinions of the food & sleeping situation and why they choose the train over all other methods of travel.

    There is no comparison between Grayhound and Amtrak. Amtrak wins hands down.

    I've travelled on Amtrak train (even former private RR Company before Amtrak merged) for 50 years. So, I go once (sometime twice) a year in any part of USA as I love it and no matter if on time or delays.

    I find riding Amtrak so relaxing compared to flying at 30,000 feet and hitting severe turbulence.

    This is an infomercial, not even trying to give you both sides. So I will. It costs quite a bit, but in return, the driver of the car can for once, just relax, not drive and see the countryside as it sails past, and that is nicer than you realize until you do it. It takes roughly twice as long to get there, compared to driving, or flying, but again, you can stretch out, and as soon as the train begins to move, you can get out of your seat (think airplane, no way) and start walking. You can walk anytime you want, as far as you want. You can change seats anytime you want, as often as you want. And the train has a different route than the highway, so you often see terrain you just can't see from a car. YOU SIT MUCH HIGHER than a car, so you can see further, if you are running parallel to a car, you see over it. One downside, you are not going to hear on this infomercial: you never know who may be sitting next to you--recently, we watched a young couple--having intercourse and I'm not kidding. There is no way to hit a switch and ask the porter to "clean that up", you would need to go find someone--but again, you can just change seats. Last time out, we had an incident of violence on the train, and they stopped and had the friendly armed police come aboard--no, this was not Chicago. It was in San Juan Capistrano on the run to San Diego CA. We were all pretty tired, wanted to get home, but the police detained the train for over two hours, so instead of getting home at 9PM, it was more like 11:30PM, and never a word of apology, or explanation as to why we were all held, as no one on the train was being questioned, and the gentleman involved was off the train--he sat there, right outside the train for over 2 hours, no one even questioning him, while the police "talked to each other" and we were only told "you can get off the train if you wish to make other arrangements", meaning at our expense. That kind of weird stuff happens on the train, and the regard for YOU is zilch--do you think they even brought us a bottle of water? But that said, I still like the train, overall, we had a nice time taking the train, for the reasons I outlined for you. Amtrak would do well to read what I just wrote--but I see no indication they will.

    The last two times I flew I had nose bleeds. I never flew again.
    A few years ago the company I worked for wanted to fly me to Atlanta for a project. I convinced them to let me take the train by saying I could sleep on the train and save them money on a motel room.

      chaosdemonwolf1 it's really not, I had a roommate from NYC to Albany and I sware it felt about an hour even though it was about 3 hours. I tried the coach seats which were super comfortable and the food was really good even though they didn't have proper kitchens due to maintenance on the traditional ones. the views are great and their is always one staff member like able

    Hi Kelly, I need your help to tell me as travel from Miamia Florida to South San Francisco, thanks.

    • @silverstatehighiron
      @silverstatehighiron 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Gabriela Gutierrez I don't think there is a train you can take from Miami Florida going west. The only way I can think of is taking a train from Louisiana to Los Angeles and then taking another train up the Coast to South San Francisco.

    • @mpaulshore
      @mpaulshore 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      The normal way to make that trip by Amtrak would be to go Miami to Washington, then Washington to Chicago, then Chicago to Emeryville. From Emeryville you can take an Amtrak shuttle bus into San Francisco.
      Depending on where you’re ultimately heading, an alternative might be to catch another train from Emeryville to San Jose, and then take one of the Caltrain commuter trains northward towards San Francisco.

      Well here in the northwest there's less trains, but greyhounds come often. The buses here are a lot newer than the rest of the county too

    I know your intention was to make this a reasonably positive video about American intercity train travel, but you start out with a rather vile slandering of Amtrak by saying that it takes “three days” to get from Chicago to Los Angeles. In fact it takes about 43 hours (three days is 72 hours, in case you didn’t know). Yes, I realize that those 43 hours occupy part of one calendar day and then all of another calendar day and then part of a third calendar day, but so what? If you got into your car at 11:55 p.m. on Friday to go to the 7-Eleven to buy some milk and arrived there at 12:05 a.m. on Saturday, would you say “It took me two days to drive to the 7-Eleven”? You really should revise the intro to describe the trip time as “a day and three-quarters”, which is a little awkward-sounding but accurate. Note also that the route Amtrak uses is 2,265 miles long, not 2,053.

      I’m taking ca to Chicago and it’s three nights. Was told 51 hrs. Which isn’t btw a negative thing. It’s a more leisurely way to go to see the country instead of flying over it. If you want speed take a plane.

    Has anyone told you that your presentation is a bit annoying?
    Trains are nice, but way to expensive in America. Europe knows how to do it.
