    To this day, one of my favourite ever games I’ve been to. The fondest of Highbury memories.

    I was there, in the North Bank with my girlfriend and my best mate. Girlfriend and I many years later were married and had a beautiful daughter. She has turned out to be as big a Gooner as her dad.

    Brilliant football from a brilliant era with household names of players whose names you can pronounce!

    Was at this game and was one of the best games I ever saw, had everything. Also, on MOTD that night when they only showed 1 game highlights! Was trouble around ground and elsewhere that day because cold weather resulted in all other London games called off. There were CFC and yi¥#s in ground and Mufc who's game at Fulham or QPR was postponed (had my latest fashion AFC scarf - thin white stripes, thick red) taken off me down Holborn tube after by Mufc twat at least 10 years older than me, I was 15!) also, Clock End rammed with Geordies who came to see Supermac make a fool of himself! Think official attendance was about 52k but in the NB in those days, if you were small, like me, you regularly got 2 kids squeezed through together, the turn style bloke would give you 50p back and keep 50p himself, so who knows what the true attendance was. Great days those, before graduating to the CE which in those days had no segregation or even fences. But that's other stories..."she wore she wore" "eyes right...." "We are the Clock End... " Phil, former Essex Clock End Crew.

    I went to this game. I was 10 at the time. We travelled up on a coach from Dover to go to see QPR but their game was abandoned due to the pitch so we nipped across town to see this. We got lucky.

    I remember watching this on Match of the Day. Jimmy Hill announced that it was the highest no of MOTD goals to date, the other match being shown was Leicester 2 Birmingham 6 (commentated by Barry Davis), a total of 16 goals! Only highlights from just two matches were shown on Saturday evening MOTD back then. Great memories!

      I'm old enough to remember this as well! Jimmy Hill said "Don't blink - you'll miss a goal!"

      Richard Williams UK ...I remember watching this at my mates cos they had a colour telly which was still a novelty in them days. Sometimes MOTD would pick a couple of duds and get two 0-0s but this Saturday they got lucky with this game and like you say Leicester v Birmingham 2-6, without resorting to google I think Kenny Burns scored four for Birmingham.

      That was a brilliant MOTD. They got really lucky with their choice of matches that day.

      Was just about to post a similar comment, I'll always remember this match of the day, they only showed 2 games back then....as a footy mad child 16 goals on MoTD was like heaven!

    Malcolm McDonald showed Newcastle how badly mistaken they were for selling him and with Arsenal, McDonald didn't fail us and he scored his hat trick for the Gunners.

    Ah, the Newcastle player Paul Cannell whose name amused Jasper Carrott so much. According to Carrott, Geordie fans used to ask "Why the Paul Cannell did Newcastle sell Malcolm McDonald?"

    why do people prefer Man City passing it around at the back for 20 minutes instead of games like this?

  • @stephenpowers51
    @stephenpowers51 12 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    @awesomefrankrapid You rarely see them given now, but back in the day, an indirect free-kick (meaning the ball had to be touched by another player before a goal could be scored) would be given for what the ref deemed 'obstruction'. Nowadays, the attacker would most likely go down quicker than a cheap crack whore, and get bugger all from the ref for his trouble. Hard to believe now that we won so little in this period, Malc McDonald, awesome player, once scored five for England. Talk later?

    some famous names on here, Liam Brady, Frank Stapleton , Alan Ball (ex Everton) Alan Kennedy, Irving Nattress Geoff Nulty ? later Everton , taken there probably by Gordon Lee who went to Everton in 77. This was the nucleus of what was to become me a decent Arsenal side at the time under Terry Neill. Camera constantly on Malc Mcdonald , cant think why that was !! Great stuff, good upload from before the vhs video era?
