Spot on..... I have loved her voice since I was around 17/18...... but that performance just blew me away.... I'm 72 this year....And in mourning for her, obviously. Dear...gracious Lady..... I am in pain.
Melanie, the singer who performed at Woodstock in 1969 and had major pop hits with “Brand New Key” and “Lay Down (Candles in the Rain)” in the early ’70s, died Tuesday January 23, 2024 at age 76. News of the death came from her publicity firm, Glass Onyon PR.
Saw her live once in the 80's. Just beautiful voice and so friendly. It was the last concert at a theater inside a mall in NJ because the next day they converted the theater (where I'd seen a LOT of great singers especially folk singers) into a SHOE STORE. She talked about it and we the audience made half hearted suggestions of having a sit in to protest it but it was no longer the 60's and we all felt the loss of that. She's gone too soon.
I am constantly amazed that there are always people who give something like this a "thumbs down". I'm wondering...are they just robots? Do they have a soul? A heart? Who knows!
When VHS was emerging I recorded this when it aired. I had been waiting and watching for her to pop up in the TV Guide. Still have the tape. The iterview is excellent.❤
I can’t help from listening to this song every day! What a powerful performance in this one. You go girl! Hey Melanie, you got a whole galaxy of celestials singing with you nowadays? Wouldn’t be surprised! I do my best to spread this song of yours through social media. It’s powerful, timely & oh so needed now. Bless you sweet angel 🙏🌹
not until a short while ago did I realize that this song was about Melanie's true expernce at Woodstock. Unlike Joni Mitchell who was not even there do to another commitment .Although a great song that sort of captured the spirit of Woodstock Melanie was a true Woodstock peace singer. . I love how she included the Edward Hawkins singers in the back up vocals in on the album.
This was a spectacular performance by the iconic folk singer named Melanie. I missed the Edwin Hawkins Singers voices since their voices added another dimension to this great song.
I truly appreciate your historical accuracy regarding Joni, but I hope that your are in no way diminishing Joni's career because she didn't attend Woodstock. To do so would be incredibly short-sighted, and incredibly ignorant.
@@DAS1962 He is just pointing out Joni Mitchell wrote a song about attending a concert, that in fact she hadn't attended, whereas Melanie wrote a song about attending a concert she had in fact attended. Surely nobody is so incredibly ignorantly half witted as to think this comment in any way diminishing Joni's career because she didn't attend Woodstock, as it would take an absolute fool to think that.
Always loved this song! Part of the peace movement during the Viet Namewar. This song will always be remembered by those of us watching our friends & family being drafted.
You are so right and so fortunate to realize it. Many of us don't "...no i'm not gonna feel it". That's something Melanie touched on in "Close to it All" i believe. I still feel it in my senior years as when i first heard "Beautiful People".
I have seen/heard a dozens versions of this. I think Melanie's voice and heart shine here more brightly than any of the others. Unbelievably beautiful.
First came across Melanie when I was in Germany in 1970. I think it was Garden in the city. Beautiful voice beautiful lady. Came across her on u tube today.still beautiful.

Dear...gracious Lady..... I am in pain.
And now she's gone. Something about her was a bit otherworldly to begin with. A great memory of better days.
I fell in love with Melanie in the late 60's, I was a teenager, now I'm almost 70, her music will live on forever
Same age, same feelings hre.
I am 70, and I will always have her in my mind.
I was 10...64 now....rest in peace dear Melanie....we love you and your daughters!
I’m approaching 71 and there is no one to compare…I’m in tears at hearing of her passing 😥😥😥
Amen
Rest in peace sweet Melanie...you beautiful soul, mother of love and peace, forever hippie and princess of Woodstock.
I am at the end of my life, but I am very happy with it, thank you Melanie for giving me comfort in my early years.
On the day she passes away, this is the cry I didn't know I needed.
Miss you Melanie, and you've just left us.💙 From Stan R.

It happens on every site: No matter the subject. It's sad... But not as sad as those who indulge.
Beautiful. Rest easy 💜

Brilliant Melanie!
Country music loves "Lay Down," but I think the Melanie song that can explode this decade is "The Good Book."

Looks to me like she's been eating the right amount of soul food.
as a young adult i feel we should all get rid of all the garbage music that's being recorded today and make more music like this. This is gold
Takes me back to being 12 and speechless at hearing this, had no idea what it was about but with great music and poetry like that who cares….?
This is freakin fabulous. Soul stirring
Been in love with Melanie since I was 10, right after Woodstock. at almost 60, still am!
A voice to be reckoned with...Christine McVie and Stevie Nicks stand down, gently.
