  • This is the second video for this machine. Now that the gear replacement is complete it is time to adjust everything we knocked out of whack. Let's get this machine back to sewing like it did when it came home for the first time! We will be adjusting the timing and other things for this machine.

I have this machine! In 1988 (1989?) my boyfriend, now husband, asked me what I wanted for my birthday and I said I wanted a sewing machine. We went to Sears and I picked this one. I think he paid $125 for it. Over the years I have made lots of clothing and home dec items with all types and weights of fabrics. It's still chugging along quite nicely, although I haven't tried any of the decorative stitches in a long time. I'm glad to see they're still repairable!

Very good work. It's easy to criticize this era of Singer machines, but it still works well after 40 years.

I have a similar machine. Mine is probably a few years older than this one.... What a time I had trying to get the tension right... Nothing worked until I changed the spool of thread upright and now she sews like a dream. 🙂

@@Dany94086 on the top of my machine is a hole for a spool pin, usually it is used for double needle stitching. I just gave it a try one day (single needle stitching) and it worked. 🙂
I have seen spool pins on ebay and the singer website. If your machine has a hole for a spool pin you might want to give it a try, it may work for you too. Wishing you the best!!! 🙂

Thanks for this video and not just saying it is not worth it because it is full of plastic. I have a very similar model that I have made more prom dresses and bridesmaids dresses than I can count along with clothes for my daughters and myself! It is a good old machine of 35 years.

Hi I have the 9010 I got from a Goodwill bin for $5..Its very clean with maintenance records and a manual..seems to be moving sluggish so I opened the top and the gear oil is thick and white and sticky and gooey looking. Is this normal?

Thank you for making this (and the previous video). Overall very helpful. But the part about "wow somehow we managed to get that timing spot on okay so feed timing is good" isn't helpful. Okay, you were very lucky that you didn't need to make any adjustment. What about if we aren't so lucky with the feed timing? After all, that is the gear that is stripped out and the feed dogs are most likely out of sync when the machine is opened up. Next week I am replacing the feed dog gear in my wife's 6235. The bottom looks just like what you were working on.

The bar that holes the needle is too far back where the needle is hitting the top of the bobbin and not in that grove. How can I adjust the bar to move it forward so the needle stop hitting the top?

Sewing Machine Man , do you REALLY think he’s “ doing us out of a job”
the loop lift is NOT 1mm it 2.2mm with
Needle bar in the middle., notice the
needle was to the right of center when he “ timed” it at 1mm loop lift and the
feed eccentric has timing marks for setting the feed in synchronization with the take up lever and with the rotary hook for proper thread escapement thru the rear & front position brackets.
I get lots of business off the many
      INCORRECT repair procedures on
      TH-cam.
