Update! Rolled over 75,000 miles (120,000km) today, June 8, 2020. Had to replace the rear wheel bearings and spacers, but all has been good other than that!

aye man, i dont think your wheel bearings are bad, i think you need a new wheel. i blew out a bearing on my bike and ever since my wheel bearings wear faster. i check it out and find my bearings dont sit perfect causing a wobble and premature wear. take that cush drive out and wiggle the bearing. there shouldnt be ANY play at all. i found this out and stopped replacing my bearings because it was the entire bearing wobbling inside the wheel, not the actual ball bearings themselves

I've been riding since 1975, and always 250-350 cc dual sport bikes, but I'm intruiged by even smaller bikes, although I don't like riding my dual sport thumpers on the highway. I have the OSMand+ navigation app on my phone set to avoid highways.
It give a great insight to owning a grom the good and the bad. It was great you telling people about the rubber cam chain wheel thingie. It can give owners of these bike something to keep an eye on before they give up the ghost and start to break up. It's always better to prevent it from happening in the first place. But I bet a lot of owners didn't know about this happen in the first place.
I'm jealous. Need to ride my Monkey more, much more. My Elite110 had about 80k miles when I sold it to a friend, thing still ran strong. Everything felt loose compared to my other Elite110 with 10k miles. Changed lots of worn drive parts belt and variator/weigths, tires, spark plug, air filter, no bearings, fuel pump, but the most involved thing was the head gasket around 50k miles. Even had a fine crack on the case at the oil filter screen that caused a slow oil leak but I epoxy it and was fine.
I was just thinking today I might have to change bikes, but this encouraged me. I can cruise at redline all day with good oil and be fine! I also love the quietness of the factory exhaust. I want to make a few more HP, then upgrade brakes and suspension. But I love these things.

Yammie Noob recently made a video saying 3680 miles is a lot for a grom!!! Meanwhile your original Grom engine lasted 50.000 miles. I have a Taiwanese 50cc four stroke Kymco scooter that has racked up 23.000 kilometers and it's still ticking along, even without an oil filter. I hope my scooter will last as long as your Honda Nathan :)
I paid for 2021 new the other day. I pick up in fortnight. Those kms made decision easier. I done 7700km on crf300la stock in 4months so I wanted peace of mind and little maintenance. Thanks for the video 👍
Honda car engines & drivetrain are subject to less mechanical & thermal stress and abuse than the chain & engine of a Honda Grom (300,000,000 revolutions) a lot of up & down for a piston engine // etc NVH a lot lower in most car engines too (cymatics) the scientific study of vibration & harmonics tells us that a small 125cc engine pumping out ~8 hp or so will be subjected to a lot of vibrational forces that generate more heat & wear. This is part of why running a kitaco clutch cover oil filter setup with 3 or 5 row oil cooler makes the Grom engine last longer //

That rear rattle happens from not tightening the rear axle enough. Happen to me. I rebuilt the rear brake. Only needed the hanger pin that hold the pads up.... Simple fix took 20 min. I thought it was all the bolt. But they just slip on with force .... Good luck
cool video but basically the GROM made it 50k miles which is a lot higher then most Harleys so that is very impressive--- putting new engines in any motorcycle or car does not count as original miles----- I dig the blue !

Your grom Has a rear Fender delete, like mine. My feet get wet every time from the Front wheel and the rear wheel slings the Dirt water All over my back and the bike. 3. What clothing gear Do you use? 4. Is it a rised handlebar that you use? Thx
I bought a new 2024 Grom and I was surprised to learn that it did not have an O ring chain ! That will be the next purchase. Can you fill me in on your recommended size chain. Will I need to change the spockets.?
Thanks! I actually put an oil cooler on when I had the 186cc kit, but I had to fabricate my own bracket since nobody really makes a bracket that satisfied me and allowed me to keep the factory airbox. That bracket ended up breaking after about 1,500-2,000 miles, so I took it off and ran it without a cooler and it blew up the next day. I assumed since it was late fall and getting cooler outside that I wouldn't need it, but I was wrong. 😂
You mentioned your 2,000 mile road trip. Did you take back roads or the main highway? I read that you need a minimum 250cc bike to ride legally on highways?
The original clutch lasted 50,000 miles and still performed like new! When I took the engine apart I compared the discs to a new clutch and there was no visible wear. Even though I did a lot of highway riding, I was VERY hard on the clutch. I slipped it a lot, and constantly shifted without letting off the throttle. I was very impressed with how it held up. I ran 30% stiffer Barnett springs with the stock plate for most of the 50k.

as a person who rides the Grom a lot, and for a long time in single days, how do you find the bike size/fit/ergonomics? (And what is your height, weight, and leg inseam?).
I'm around 6'1" or 6'2" and 220 pounds. I was 170 pounds when I bought the bike..haha. 32" inseam, so not the longest legs, but not short either. I'm reasonably comfortable on the grom, but I know I look hilarious on it. My shoulders get sore on long rides, but other than that I'm comfortable.
@@Two_Wheel_Deel Thank you. Wow, definitely not a small guy! I live in Asia and for some here, the Grom fits them like a full size bike. After riding a 2016 and also sitting on a 2020, I found that the tank fairings on the 2016 are a problem for me, my legs are too long (33" inseam) and my knees hit that upper part of the fairings that juts out. On the newer bike (2017 and later), it feels like my legs and knees fit ok.
I wish my in seam was more than 29.5. I have not ever been able to ground properly on anything until the grom 2021 (I still can’t flat foot both at same time lol). That’s probably why my CRF300l abs does 154kmh stock 83-85kg
I'll answer my own question, after having sat on different Groms and owning one for a little while. The oldest generation is no good for me because the plastic gas tank covers stick out right where my knees would go, creating a seating problem. The 2nd gen is ok. I haven't sat on the newest ones. When I sat on the 2nd gen, I'd end up with my butt quite far back on the saddle (covering much of the area where a passenger would be sitting if there were one), and my torso leaned forward a bit. Not the normal/intended seating position but it was still pretty comfortable. Making the seat thicker would likely make the bike much more comfortable for me
I converted mine from size 420 chain to size 428, so I only have to replace it about once per year, or roughly once every 10-15k miles. They would probably last longer if I took better care of them, but I rarely ever clean or lube my chain. The stock 420 size only lasted me around 4000 miles, regardless of how well I took care of them.
Okey thanks I have now upgraded mine to a x ring chain...how much oil is your grom normaly burning...mine burns arround 1 dl per 1000km with 17k km on it do you found it normal?
Everyone says the grom is 'fun' but no one seems to be able to explain why or what they mean by it. Is it because it is small that the sense of speed is higher than it would be on a larger bike? I know that is the case with a pocketbike.
That's part of it for sure. Kinda like riding a go-kart on the road 😂 also the smaller size makes it feel less serious so it encourages silly behaviour. You jump curbs you shouldn't jump, you go through gaps you shouldn't go through. That sort of thing!
It's a Coleman brand ATV seat pad I got from Walmart. It's okay, but I rarely ever use it because I just don't like fooling with it sliding around and trying to strap it down.
Not really. Just a few sissy (less than 2 second) wheelies and stoppies. It has been jumped and off-roaded quite a bit though. I'm surprised the suspension and frame haven't given out yet.
About 55-58 mph average. The new one is the same. I've gotten as fast as 81 mph, but that was downhill with a huge tail wind. My current top speed (downhill) is 75 with the gearing and rev limit I'm running, but like I said, mid 50s is what it usually tops out at on flat ground.
I haven't noticed any reduction in speed as the engine wears. Even with 50k miles on the old engine and barely enough compression to start, it still ran 55+ mph no problem. Wind resistance is by far the biggest factor that will affect your top speed.

I have 21.000km on my first gen Grom (MSX125) at the moment. So it just run in I guess. Never let me down and I will never let it down.

I just bought a 2018 with 22,000km. I thought I made a mistake but it seems like the Groms can take on high km's.

Rear wheel bearings probably has to do with the chain being tensioned too hard when you sit on the bike.

You say cam but you don’t tell?
I'm running the TB cam from Tbolt. It gives a good boost in power at 7k rpm and up, but power below 6k rpm does suffer.
