You have probably heard about 'the need to create psychological safety' a lot lately. But have you wondered what it means?
If you have, let me explain what it is and why it maters to Project Managers.

Psychological safety is a relatively new term for me working in the Oil and Gas industry, but since it's inception on our project, I love the value of it.
Strangely enough, it popped up on my youtube notifications this morning when I am in the throes of negotiating overtime for my supervisory team which has been rejected (several times).
Escalation, where I work, has its challenges, but my immediate boss has agreed to have an informal chat with the 'big boss', which is something I am comfortable with, but it may have repercussions for me, from other factions on-site, which prevents me from ever doing that.
    Love the channel, thanks.

Thank you. It does not surprise me that the Oil and Gas Industry is late to the party on Psychological Safety. So, I am glad if this video helps you understand the concept. I also wish you well in your negotiations and hope you'll be able to use the idea pf Psychological Safety to at least make changes in the areas of your work where you have a measure of influence.

@@Onlinepmcourses Oil and Gas, for all the money involved in the industry, is a very reactive and backwards-thinking industry. Just as well the money is decent..

Mike, thanks. Great as usual. The other very timely piece to this is the safe environment needed to 'raise your hand' without renunciation (or being sacked). We could even look at this week's Titan implosion as a very unfortunate outcome of the lack of psychological safety.

Thank you, Rich. Sadly, what we are hearing in the news here is that senior management simply chose to override warnings, which is a whole other thing again: management hubris. The belief that you are right and others are wrong, without the humility to commission an objective investigation. However, I suspect the two go together like a horse and carriage.
What also interests me is a whole other psychological effect: why did the UK press give so much more coverage to the deaths of a few super-rich tourists and so little to the deaths of700+ migrants the previous week? I think I know some of the reasons and it does not reflect well on us. I suspect the balance of reporting was the same in many countries, including the US.
